Thank you for adding to it, because you're so right, i think it's one of the reasons he was so upset about that column.

This is a scene i can't get out of my mind since i've last rewatched. As you well know, Anthony invited them to drink, praised Benedict, who then talks about being glad of having a purpose, and it's also the scene Anthony praises Colin for now having many admirers ( aka sleeping around). But do you see it? Can you see it? Colin is feeling sad, lonely, uncomfortable like he doesn't belong and a bit angry/resentful. I mean, how can they not see it? How can his brothers not notice the existential crisis their younger brother is going through? I feel so sad and angry on Colin's behalf because these two are the men he look up to, and he admires, and yet, with them here, trying to please them- specially Anthony "I should have taken you to more brothels to man up" Bridgerton - and society, he never felt so lost and alone and then he gets the praise he has been seeking from Anthony for years for behaving in a way that he knows is making him feel empty. It's a small scene but it's not talked about enough and it deserves to be appreciated for the insight that gives us on Colin's emotions.
No wonder he run to apologize to Pen when she called him out, and tell her how much he does appreciate her, because she's the only one who didn't fall for the the façade, the only one with whom he could talk and be himself, the only one who made him feel like Colin, and be happy to be her version of Colin, the one she sees him as; the version of himself he knows is the real him and makes him happy within. It also plays well with his reticence to kiss her. The thought that anything could lead to her out of his life must have been scary and unbearable.

Colin Bridgerton is a puppy. A sweet, determined and needy puppy who just wants to please and protect his loved ones. If you have a bad word to speak of this kind, soft boy, with his own self worth issues, you're a villain. I don't make the rules, it is what it is.

Yeah, it seems like the audience has a bigger problem with LW than the characters itself. Colin and Eloise is a particular case but the others don't seem to give much a damn, and used when it was convenient too. And people really thinking the Queen will punish Pen are crazy...
Some of these takes really make it sound like Colin's going to be getting to grips with being in love with a serial killer 😂😂😂.
I know Penelope's done damage but I'm a bit baffled at the sheer exaggeration of her sins.
All she ever did was write facts and yes it hurt people she cared about but she's not even twenty and still learning.

You know what: Polin stans won hard. Guys, you're the luckiest subfandom. Compared to the other seasons, the amount of Polin you're getting and how the story actually has more depth, higher stakes. Congrats!

Thinking that Eloise is right about Pen telling Colin doesn't make me forget that i want Eloise to take some accountability for creating that whole mess with the Queen and the print shop workers.

You guys do know many things can be true at the same time, right? Pen has the right to want to fight for what's hers, and not let others take her credits, plus fight to have her own voice;
Eloise has the right to be upset Colin doesn't know the truth; Colin has the right to feel hurt and betrayed, also worried about how things may go. All of them can have emotions and be irrational and impulsive sometimes. But do not fret...All's Well that Ends Well.

Not only that but frankly, it's a ridiculous parallel to begin with. Penelope is hiding that she's a Gossip Columnist, Marina was hiding a pregnancy by another man and the fact she had no love for Colin. Penelope's feelings for Colin are real, she loves him.
I know we're probably gonna get some kind of argument in part 2, whether with Eloise or Colin, about how Penelope is trapping Colin by hiding her Whistledown identity from him (paralleling Marina in s1), but what if I said Colin lowkey trapped her, 'cause the way he publicly interrupted Penelope and Debling's dance then loudly said she was making a mistake (just as said mistake was walking by mind you) really made sure no one would ever try to propose to her again lmao

The fact that some people think we who love and stan Penelope don't know she's messy and has some issues she needs to resolve is hilarious. We love her exactly because she is far from perfect. Give me the perfectly imperfect characters any day. And Colin loves it too, byt the way, he's into her mess...just saying.

"Then what good am I to you?"
have y'all ever considered that, yes, whilst Penelope has loved him for a very long time. . .she has not shown that to him? that she has not made it clear to him in any way? already, all he feels he is good for is providing because of how he grew up, a chronic middle child vying for attention, receiving positivity when he brings levity or cracks a joke or brings a gift or demonstrates a kindness? that the people pleaser in him feels he has to provide a dance or a laugh or ease or even just stepping to the side so he isn't a bother? have y'all considered that he was straight up ghosted for months? so when he *could not* provide anything, he was cast aside and forgotten? even by her?
have y'all considered that Colin has the idea that if he is not doing something for someone, they have no use for him, and so must be shown that is not true? that he feels he doesn't deserve forgiveness or time unless he has something of worth to offer as leverage for it? that all of the ways Penelope has cared for him have been from afar?
Penelope needed to know that Colin loves her, so he chases down her carriage. So he professes his feelings on his knees. So he strips her bare in front of a mirror to show her- see what I see, you're beautiful. So he informs her own MOTHER that he loves her and she can't talk smack about his future wife. He has so many big gestures for her to make her understand he's serious about her, and that she matters to him for who she is, no strings attached. He apologizes for hurting her feelings after she tells him off, he offers her his help in building her confidence, he helps her family in Season 2, expecting nothing in return, and even in Season 1, he professes how good she is.
But from his perspective. . .he did not even KNOW Penelope had feelings for him when he raced off after her to beg her not to marry someone else. As far as he knew, she considered them friends, and even under the willow, she told him distance would be best after they kissed. She didn't reply to his letters on his travels. She showed him that their intimacy didn't affect her the way it affected him because she continued to pursue a different engagement. She had even said their kiss wouldn't mean anything and when he says he cannot stop thinking of it, she does not assure that it meant a great deal to her, too. She informs that she wants to be more than friends, but nothing else. What is he meant to think? Even if she says she has loved him for a long time, he's been told before that someone loves him. . .and then it ended up not being true.
Penelope has waited for years, since she first met him, to love him in the light, and she has an opportunity in Part 2 to do so. To show Colin that she loves him: assuredly, fervently, loudly.
And I, for one, cannot fucking WAIT to see it.

Bridgerton S3 is so interesting and engaging. No wonder everyone is talking about and it's such a success. In this presumably formulaic fantasy romance they went there and made the female protagonist the messy one with secrets, and the male protagonist a soft boy with a need to please and protect. The way some of you don't know how to handle that is wonderfully telling. It's fascinating.

In my opinion, the perfect solution is Penelope still having her voice, but simply not as LW. She can write, she can use HER own voice. LW was a lifesaver for her, i get that. it was at some point all she had. She felt unloved, she felt lonely, she felt belittled and humiliated, bullied home and outside, so she found a voice, an outlet to her mind, the only way she could've, and that offered financial security too, but it is a coping mechanism, she needs to move on to her own voice, she needs to trust more in herself and the man she loves. I don't want her giving up on her voice, but giving up on LW may be the healthy thing to do.

Penelope: A woman that had always to fend for herself and protect herself, therefore not being able to trust people completely with her problems. Colin: A man who thinks being protective, taking care of the ones you love is imperative, and measures his own value on how useful he is, how trusted he is to achieve that. Colin and Penelope: each other's mess. Born for each other.

Eloise making a scene at the engagement rubs me wrong. Penelope should tell Colin, we all agree on that, but if you're going to make a scene at the engagement, then you should've told him before. Just tell him, then, and don't make a circus out of an engagement. It makes it look petty and performatic, not really because you're worried about the truth and her brother's feelings.
