Tour Bus Dispatch #420
HARD ROCK CASINO
LAS VEGAS, NV
I'm not going to say much about the tragedy in Vegas yesterday. It was just that: a tragedy. Senseless murder is horrible, no matter the circumstances. The fact that it happened at a music festival, of course, hits home. Shows are sacred places to myself, and the many people who execute and attend shows and festivals. Music and such productions are meant to bring about joy. To forget about the problems of life for a while and simply live.
The man who committed these acts obviously had something very wrong going on inside his head, as is true with any murderer. I'm glad he's gone, but so sad that he was at such a point that he decided to take so many others with him.
It may seem insensitive to go ahead with hosting our NO SUCH THING AS DEATH show tomorrow night at the Hard Rock. I've thought long and hard about this, and conferred with the HR, lawyers, and families of victims who are fans of the show, and I've decided we're going to do the show. If you'd like a refund for your ticket, we will gladly give you your money back, no questions asked. This is a sensitive time for many people, and I'm not going to make it any harder on you. I wish you peace and hope to see you and meet you and give you a hug at some show in the future. God willing, there will be many, many more.
That being said, as a giant FUCK YOU to Stephen Haddock and the Stephen Haddocks of the world, we are still doing the show. We're going to laugh at ridiculous stories together, and we're going to comfort and console one another. And every penny we make off of ticket sales and merchandise tomorrow night will bbe donated to the COALITION TO STOP GUN VIOLENCE.
Civilians just shouldn't possess multiple automatic weapons. For Stephen Haddock to be able to carry out such an astounding number of murders last night should not be possible or an option in this country or any country.
I hope my decision to carry on with the show is not offensive to any family member or friend suffering from loss after this attack. It is not meant as disrespect, only as solidarity in defiance of senseless murder.
Lastly, if you'd like grief counseling but cannot afford it, come to the show tomorrow and hand a note to a ticket taker that reads "GRIEF". You will be appointed a therapist on the spot, who will continue treating you after the night of the show, paid for by me. I'm a strong believer in actively seeking better mental health, and I want to facilitate that in this way.
