Merkara and Relu are in Stardew Valley now. I found this character creator and couldn't resist. Already decided that Merkara is a rogue magician, she's here to cause mischief and steal some artifacts. And Relu is a doctor, he used to work in a war zone and escaped to a small town to heal from his traumatizing experience

So. If Merkara were to adopt a pet, what type of pet would she choose? and why do I feel it'd be a black cat

It would probably be a black cat in some kind of AU, but it’s definitely a nexu in the SW universe. I actually have a short fic about this. In a nutshell: When Merkara was a slave, her masters purchased a few nexu for martial training purposes. She really bonded with the beasts while they were still alive because she could strangely relate to them. 

Here’s a snippet to give you an idea:

“More punching bags for you to slaughter,” she said with sudden sympathy for the poor beasts. They didn’t deserve it ― she was certain of that because she used to be a punching bag too. Ra’enar shook his head again, his face as blank as ever. “Not punching bags. More like nature’s killing machines, they are absolutely ruthless with their prey. If you’re not fast enough, they will rip your throat out before you manage to scream.” Merkara widened her eyes and threw up her hands in exaggerated bewilderment. “But they are so adorable!” she exclaimed. 

Also, I keep giving her nexu in the game, but I’m not sure she has the time to handle a pet. Her life is very eventful.
