Many of you know the many stories of my dad–the one who calls me Eldest Spawn and once got the moon for me. A lot of you followed me specifically for Dad Antics.

Well, that very same dad, the Internet’s very own Favorite Dad, has been diagnosed with melanoma. He is currently scheduled for surgery to remove the affected tissue, with an estimated recovery time of three months. Depending on the results of surgery, he may have to receive chemotherapy as well. 

My mother asked me to set up fundraising to help cover any medical expenses, as well as general living expenses since my dad has always been the primary breadwinner and Mom’s income isn’t enough to cover everything for a household of four, including two special needs kids.

Give what you can if you can, and please help spread this around! Thank you. <3

So the last couple of days, I've been slowly losing vision in my right eye. I now can't see shit out of it at all.

Went to the ER yesterday morning, and by Midnight 30 today, I was admitted.

I've had a steroid shot, a lot of blood drawn, a CAT scan, an MRI, and they're doing a spinal tap followed by steroid treatment. I'm likely going to be here for the rest of the week.

This means a week of not being able to job hunt, which means an even longer time of not being able to pay my bills.

Help!

Hey folks, soooo -- I lost my job at the end of January. I've been living off the couple hundred I had set aside for taxes (haha that's gonna be fun). Unfortunately, that has just about dried up. I had enough to make payments on my credit cards, and do laundry tomorrow.

I have insurance coming up on the 23rd ($266), and my car payment on the 6th ($236).

I have an interview on Friday, but even if they hire me on the spot, I won't have a paycheck for at least a week if not two. Our household is already trying to put money towards getting a new place to live with our lease not being renewed, and just maintaining bills in general. This is our only vehicle and is the way we get Natalie to work, pick up our fave kiddo from school, and all our other errands.

I legit loathe asking for help, but if you can help me get this paid, it would seriously be a huge help for us.

Wow so we had to take my cat to the vet b/c he's developed a weird lump on his nose and started having trouble breathing and the initial visit & stuff was over $500 and we'll have to schedule a follow-up once all his lab work comes back and we're worried he might have lymphoma

as ur friendly Neighborhood Nursing Student™ i feel somewhat compelled to remind everyone with the hot weather:

every liquid except sea water and alcohol hydrates you. It’s not CHUG WATER OR DIE. in fact, gatorade and the like are designed to hydrate you efficiently.

yeah, this includes coffee and tea and soda. the diuretic is not enough to cancel out the liquid. juices and milk have solids in them, sure, but they’re also mostly liquid! it counts. 

your body can only absorb so much water at a time, so chugging 64 oz of water at noon and calling it good will do a wonderful job of flushing your kidneys, but not so much of hydrating your tissues. it’s more important that you’re getting consistent fluid throughout the day. 

there’s a lot of fancy ways to determine How Much Water (Liquid) I Should Drink but honestly? 8 oz (1 cup) every other hour on cool days and 8 oz every hour on hot days should be fine (assuming you sleep for a normal amount of time per day…. i’m assuming ur awake 16 hours a day.)

figure out how many oz each of ur favorite cups is. it’ll help your guesstimation. 

if ur urine is darker than light yellow, you’re dehydrated. 

if u pinch the skin on the back of ur hand for a couple seconds and it takes more than a second or two go to back to normal then ur dehydrated.
