Save Shadowhunters Update: A Story of Many Milestones

The Cast & Crew Receive a Copy of “Love Makes Us Stronger”

Via Emeraude Toubia’s Instagram story last night, the cast and crew have received a package from fans that included a copy of “Love Makes Us Stronger,” the book that Basic Shadowhunters Stuff, Malec Fic Library, and Shadowhunters Merch put together to shine a light on the importance of the show’s representation and showcase all of the donor responses left on the fundraising pages in June for The Trevor Project and Girl Up.

According to the fans who sent it, the package arrived on July 27th, the same day Matthew Daddario tweeted about the charity work for The Trevor Project.

TV in the Hands of the Fans: Inside the #Save Campaigns of 2018

The Shadowhunters fandom has fought the cancellation of their show to the last. Accumulating over 149,000 signatures on a petition to save the show thus far, they’ve also managed to raise funds for a billboard campaign in Times Square, subway posters in Seoul, raised money for charity, and hired campaign-boosting pedicabs at SDCC. Kind of a big deal, ladies and gentlemen.

Save Shadowhunters Billboard Officially Arrives in Toronto

This morning in Toronto, the fan-fueled billboard for the series was first unveiled at the corner of Bay and Dundas, a prominent intersection in the city right in the heart of downtown. You can see a brief video of it below! It will be on rotation for the next several days, while the series continues to film the final episodes of season 3 in and around the city.

Netflix’s Cindy Holland on Volume Play, Cancelations, ‘Stranger Things’ Delays

Freeform axed Shadowhunters in June, announcing that the show would end after the final 12 episodes of its third season air in 2019. The loss of an output deal with Netflix was blamed for the decision. Holland noted that the show's fan base is fervent. "I probably get 100 emails a day or more personally" about the show," she said to laughs.

Netflix Boss Talks Save Shadowhunters Campaign, ‘Hundreds’ of Emails

Our big takeaway when it comes to Netflix and Shadowhunters is simply this: The idea of it eventually coming there is still feasible and it is still worth some attention. Even though nothing may be happening right now, we also don’t think of what Holland said today as her shutting down the possibility now or in the future. We do think that there is a market for the show there, mostly in that Netflix does need more series catering to its particular demographic that produce this sort of loyal following.

Save Shadowhunters Coming to Toronto with New Billboard

Of course, it’s also smart for Shadowhunters to really push the campaign to save the show here given that it’s the most-trafficked city in Canada, it’s one of the biggest cities in North America overall, and it will get a lot of attention here — especially in the summer. Toronto’s one of those places where, when the weather is good, you really want to be out in it as much as humanly possible. That’s especially true come late July, when you’re starting to realize that there really is only so much summer left. It should play well here, and if nothing else generate even more discussion on social media.
