                                           “And when we bid farewell a                                             few weeks ago, was it not you                                             who insisted i was to return?”

In truth even Kol himself had not expected to come back so soon. And despite what he said, Elijah’s request was not the reason behind his return. No, in truth it had been a tearful phone call from their sister. This truth however, would not be mentioned.

The seemingly bitter response from his brother did not go unnoticed by Kol. He shrugged it off at first, taking a seat as Elijah attended to their drinks.

It was not that Kol and Klaus had had a perfect relationship, far from it. Still, it had been far better than the one he shared with Elijah. A feat that was by no means difficult.

                                           “Nik hated me, Elijah. It didn’t matter that                                             we occasionally made peace and spent                                             time together. He still hated me. And the                                             only reason I’m still alive is because he                                             didn’t want to live with the guilt of killing                                             his own brother.”

       Barely a smile, but it was there,        tempting his lips to curl. Invisible        to the lesser eye, Elijah was aware        Kol would have detected the twitch.        “So I did. But you hardly ever choose          to listen. I’m amazed. But glad.”

Only a fool would believe Elijah held any form of influence over his youngest brother. Niklaus would have been far more successful if the so called noble Original required Kol’s presence. Over the years, Elijah had wronged their prankster brother in too many ways for the matter to be resolved over one conversation. But he harbored hope, that someday Kol might see what he meant to Elijah. Even when the latter often failed to display his affection.

                                               “I think we both know that is a lie.                                                  Niklaus may have been jealous.                                                  His paranoia may have been all                                                  consuming at times and lead to                                                  outbursts of RAGE on his end. But                                                  he never hated you.”

                       Elijah handed Kol one of the glasses,                        adding ice before doing the same to                        his own beverage.

     “I feel it is unnecessary to say:       but neither did I.”
