if you watched encanto and loved it like i did, i'd recommend reading the house of the spirits by isabel allende and one hundred years of solitude by gabriel garcía márquez! both are magical realist novels that follow several generations of south american families. they're essentials in the genre, and it seems like encanto was at least partly inspired by them!

Witchy Study Sessions
Welcome to the second post in my witchcraft x studying series! My first post received lots of positive attention so I decided to keep it going!!!
In this post I'll discuss different herbs, incense, fruits, flowers, stones, etc you can use to help you out when you study! Feel free to use this list to help in the creation of spells (if you do, I'd love to hear all about your spells!!), meditation, etc!
Herbs:
Rosemary: the arguably most common and popular herb in witchcraft. It has been used for a very long time for a ton of reasons, making it extremely versatile. This herb is used commonly to help with memory, focus, and concentration making it amazing for study sessions! You can put in in your tea, cakes, breads, salads, whatever you like! Not only are it's metaphysical properties versatile, it's mundane uses are too! It's used everywhere from skincare to medicines to decoration and pest repellent.
Allspice: that one herb everyone has in their cabinet but doesn't know quite what to do with it! This is typically used more commonly for money, but luck, prosperity, and energy are all things anyone going to classes definitely needs. Perfect in baked goods, drinks, incense, sprinkled in wax warmers, and used in sauces and soups, this makes application of this herb for your studies almost limitless!
Bay: got a big test coming up and just need a little pinch of good luck? Throw some bay leaves in your bag! These are very popular for wishing, luck, and that little extra push! Also very amazing in the kitchen. You can also hang them over your desk or put them in your drawers. A popular way of using them is writing what you want on the leaf and then burning it.
Chamomile: every witch's best friend. These are super easy to get and very common, so it's perfect for even the closet witches! Finals week is one of the most useful times for these gorgeous flowers. Don't like the taste? Use them as decoration or in a bouquet! Sprinkle the flowers around your room or in a little jar. They also make Chamomile incense!
Cinnamon: My personal favorite (I add this to almost everything). It's amazing for luck, success, energy, and amplifying energy. Hell, they even make cinnamon gum. With the element of fire, it also tends to have a faster effect than other herbs.
Frankincense: AMAZING for concentration. Burning it also impacts ion channels in the brain that can help alleviate anxiety, which is why you have that mystical kind of feeling in a church while they burn it. It is a slight psychoactive because of this.
Ginger: nervous? Have some ginger! This herb is used even medically to help calm you down. Best part is that it is delicious! Super easy to use without anyone suspecting anything. I add it to my Ramen all the time.
Grass: I know what am I thinking? But have you just laid in some grass and felt calm? Read a book sitting in some and then able to talk all about it? Grass is amazingly magical. It increases focus, concentration, and brings a sense of calmness with it.
Lemon balm: very commonly used to help with anxiety and depression! Need I say more?
Fruits and Veggies:
Acorn: these little guys are absolutely adorable, in season, and perfect for studying! They bring luck, wisdom, and bring out your personal power. Just pick one up and carry it along with you to give you that extra oomph! Did you know that you can also make flour from them? Their flesh is 100% edible. You can even boil them too!
Broccoli: this is a great veggie for growing and being strong just like your mama told ya. It's also great to help balance life as well. Cook it, grow it, chop it up and dry it to powder it, whatever! It's very potent magic. Just be careful! Bitter plants tend to also be able to cause the opposite if used in large quantities in spells (A superstitious belief of mine anyways).
Cabbage: Good luck! Always need more of it so eat your cabbage! Don't like how it tastes? Get some red cabbage and marinade it in some lime juice and salt and add it to a salad or serve with dinner. I promise vegetables aren't bad, they just need seasoning. Bonus points if your seasoning amplifies the energies you want.
Celery: the Allstar veggie! Perfect for stress, tiredness, fatigue, and brain fog. Gnawing on a few sticks tastes great and is healthy. The crunch can really help reduce stress and calm your brain down. But you can also bake it, put it in salads, use the seeds, grow it, etc.
Orange: the praises of this fruit are well sung so I won't beat a dead horse here.
Pumpkin: the king of the season, this baby is amazing at bringing good vibes and pushing you towards success! Plus it smells amazing and is super festive up until winter. You can even paint them to bring some color magic into it!
Strawberry: what better fruit to bring about success, fortune, and favor than this gorgeous beauty? Absolutely delicious, very abundant, and just a pure, helpful energy all around. Use in smoothies, desserts, salads, breakfast, syrups, glazes, sugars, snacks, etc. A gorgeous fruit with an amazing energy. What else could you want?
Flowers:
Carnation: Got too much on your plate? These flowers of motherly love are here to help! Often used for that energy, they can also help ease anxiety and provide some balance to a chaotic life much like a mother can calm her screaming baby to sleep. Best part is these flowers are also edible. The petals are sweet and tender and can be used in all sorts of dishes from desserts to salads to even wines!
Iris: The ultimate power flower with a need to get done attitude. Big project? Need some creative help? Can't focus? Brain fog? You name it, this flower can help! These plants are mildly toxic to humans and toxic to pets so don't let anyone eat them please.
Honeysuckle: With a flower that smells so sweet, how could it not make things better? This flower is great for extra confidence, success, and luck. And it's a very common perfume scent making these magical boosts super easy to get!
Lilac: Amazing for more than just flirting and banishing, it also helps aide memory. Have some of these flowers around you while you study or rehearse to help you remember the small details!
Orchid: this is a no nonsense flower that will bring you focus, concentration, and elegance. Their energy is very strong and their colors are many, making it super easy to customize these to fit your needs!
Rocks:
Agate: with properties like courage, confidence, and strength, these beautiful rocks make amazing and beautiful energy beacons for studying. They also are used a lot in jewelry and art pieces so they are very accessible and easy to disguise!
Amethyst: this stone is like rosemary in the sense that people say it can do anything. Let it bring calmness and sleep on those anxious nights.
Pyrite: this stone isn't just for money, but also for success, luck, focus, and confidence. Carry some around with you to classes to help you focus and be more confident about answering questions.
Yellow flourite: Honestly one of the best stones to help fight fatigue and burn out. It helps clear your body and remove stress. Pair with a positive stone like amethyst to help recharge yourself and get back on your feet.
Yellow topaz: absolutely gorgeous stone with such positive energy. This stone will help you with your confidence and luck as well as look amazing with almost anything!
Other misc. Items:
Dirt from your school: This is an amazing spell item for all sorts of reasons. It brings school energy with you. But it also helps with memory, focus, knowledge, and overall studying.
Paint: paint itself can help invite creativity, overcome road blocks, and provide inspiration. Pair that with the ability to add color magic into it so easy, you have a very potent spell item. This is also a great one for closet witches as no one is going to even think about witchcraft if you're playing with paint.
Pennies: not just for graveyards! These little guys can also bring you good luck!
Shark teeth: Need a confidence boost? Keep some Shark teeth on ya. They are not only super cool, but also very common and popular.
Incense:
Angelica: This is amazingly calm but also great for bringing new understanding. If you're stuck on a topic and just can't get it, try burning some Angelica incense and try again.
Basil: This delicate but almost earthy scent can help with retention, focus, enthusiasm, and mental clarity. This is one you typically can only find combined with other scents.
Bergamot: Pulling an all nighter? The coffee isn't quite cutting it? Try burning some bergamot incense to help keep you alert and keep your mind active. It can also make you feel more confident and ready to take on this class!
Cardamom: this is great if you don't like the smell of bergamot which can be kind of intense.
Sage: remove that stress and heavy energy after failing a test and replace it with a much friendlier, happier energy.
Rain: this is another great option to help alleviate stress especially if you don't like the smell of sage! It's much calmer and more relaxing.
Clove: a great option for long study sessions, this incense really helps with focus and memory, as it was a very warm, earthy smell to it. It also helps in grounding and concentration exercises.
Eucalyptus: a very calming and relaxing incense, this is great if you're stressing over finals or a big project. It will help calm you down while also increasing your focus.
Lemongrass: this is the almighty incense for studying. It helps fight fatigue, increase focus and concentration, promotes stress relief, and helps memory.

Light a bonfire/small fire (safely!) and burn papers with things that no longer serve you, that you cannot afford to take into winter.
Make an offering to your deities or ancestors
Make food with seasonal ingredients symbolic of the final harvest: squashes, pumpkins, grains, apples, spices. Even wine, if you’re allowed to drink.
Prepare your home and yourself for the coldest part of the year. Redo protection spells, clean out clutter, develop sustaining spells for winter.
Reflect on the past year. What did you lose? What people left your life, what things no longer hold meaning for you? How did you change as a person?
Work with various forms of divination, like runes, pendulums, tea leaves, or tarot.
If you do work with ouija boards you better be SUPER DUPER careful. Do not neglect protections, and if you feel uncomfortable, stop, protection spells and cleanse, cleanse, cleanse.
Give some time or money to a cause you’re passionate about. If your harvest is abundant, give back to those who were not so fortunate.

do you have any tips on how to start studying witchcraft? i’m totally new and don’t know what to do:(
Tumblr media
☁︎ 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭
Tumblr media
hi, lovely, thank you for asking! i wish you all the luck in the world in your studies. here are a few tips from me.
Tumblr media
ideas for how to start studying:
read. when i first started studying witchcraft, tumblr was my only resource because i couldn’t really go out and buy witchy resource books. however, i have a solution for that. this is a link to a cite that allows you to download books for free. yes, it works and it’s safe. guests can download five books per 24 hours, but if you create a free account you can download more. they have lots of books on witchcraft on here—but not all of them. there are also some tumblr posts floating around that have free pdfs of witchy books as well, so keep an eye out for that.
watch youtube videos. there are lots of vloggers out there who make instructional videos on witchcraft, especially at the beginner level. they have videos on all sorts of topics—like things you should research as a baby witch, how to compile a grimoire/book of shadows, how to cast spells, etc.
know that everyone who shares how-tos about witchcraft is biased. yes, even me. what works for me may not work for you. and what works for you may not work for the most revered witch on youtube. that’s okay. you’re not doing anything wrong. follow your intuition and allow it to guide you. that’s the principle here on my blog. i prefer to post about diy witchcraft or do-it-yourself witchcraft, meaning i want to encourage witches to sit down and craft their own information rather than regurgitating someone else’s. however, that might not be your cup of tea. you might not have an issue with the consensus’s definition of magick, and that’s cool. just be sure, as you’re studying magick, you’re able to (1) recognize that you’re learning from one person’s experience and (2) discern whether or not those experiences will work for you.
write notes. anything that jumps out to you when you’re reading or watching videos you should write down. when you’re new, a lot of information will seem enticing, and you want to absorb it all like a big sponge. there’s nothing wrong with that. but, what makes it wrong is when you start to dread or feel uncomfortable by something. for me, personally, i never liked the idea of making my magick religious, and not for lack of trying! everyone and their grandmother on witchblr seemed pagan, so i thought something must be wrong with me if i’m not. i tried to worship deities, but i always felt stupid when i did it because i didn’t believe. i even tried incorporating christianity into witchcraft, but that didn’t feel right either. eventually, i decided i wouldn’t make my craft religious. it does make things frustrating when i’m reading a book, and it’s chock-full of wiccan rituals or pagan spells, but i’ll still read it because the book may cover a topic i’m interested in. tldr; feel comfortable in the idea of taking some information and leaving the rest.
rewrite your notes. the first time you write, i would recommend putting it in a cheap/old notebook where you can be as messy as you want. once you finish, go back, reread, cut out things you think you’ll never use, and rewrite your notes. (preferably in your own words, but i understand that can be difficult.) now, you can choose to rewrite these in your grimoire or a different notebook. doesn’t matter. what you’re doing here is teaching yourself discernment and critical thinking. when you start to cut things out, you’re narrowing it down to the types of magick you do want to practice. (of course, this can change over time, but it’s a good place to start.)
don’t wait to practice until you know everything. because that will literally never happen. there will be a point when you realize everyone teaching these baby witch tips is regurgitating the same information over and over again. that is the point (actually, it’s well past the point) that you need to close tumblr and start practicing. because, at that point, the only person you can learn from is yourself. in practicing your magick you can find out what really works for you, and what’s excessive. don’t feel guilty about cutting down your craft, it’s necessary. (another personal example: i don’t have an altar. I did at the beginning, but it became useless to me over time, so i cut it out of my craft.) start practicing the little things—such as grounding and cleansing—early on. it’s okay if you forget what to do or nothing happens, you’re learning.
use yourself as a resource. yup, i’m back on my diy witchcraft bullshit. i’m going to post about this soon, but you need to use yourself as a resource. you might be thinking, “nan, how the hell do i do that when i’m new?!” well, i’ll tell you. correspondences. there are hundreds of posts about them on tumblr—color correspondence, crystal correspondence, fabric correspondence, moon phase correspondence—are all meaningless if you disagree. see, the color red is commonly associated with love and lust, so witches stress to use a red candle when performing that type of magick. well, what if you think red represents creativity? then go with your meaning. wow, i know, that’s a radical thought, but seriously it personalizes your craft and brings you closer to it.

Strawberry Self-Love Spell.
Hi, friends. It's been a bad week for me. I've lost work due to chronic health conditions and pain, and it's been difficult to stay on top of bills and recovery. I'm recovering from severe anorexia nervosa and with funds at a limit as well as emotional energy, sometimes it's hard to keep on my own two feet.
So I'm going to share something, an edible spell on my own creation, something I've shared with only one other person in my life. It's helped me through multiple relapses and stressful times when eating and caring for myself has been difficult.
Please note: this does not replace professional medical care, be it physical or emotional. This is something I've added onto my weekly therapy and counseling sessions, as well as medication. This is not going to cure anything, but if done correctly, it can help sweeten your mood.
Here is the list of ingredients, as well as their beneficial properties.
Strawberries (6 large): Love, luck, and pleasure (also lust and pregnancy, but not for this spell)
Mint (3 medium leaves or 1 tablespoon dried) : Energy, communication, and vitality
Sugar (to taste): Where salt banishes, sugar invites. It invites sweetness and positivity. Does not apply to artificial sweeteners.
OR honey (to taste): Love, sweetness
Vanilla extract, to taste (not imitation): love, passion, and restoring lost energy (also lust, but not for this spell)
Sparkling moon water (to taste): just as it sounds, moon water made from sparkling water, preferably unflavored. Sparkling water has bubbles, which invited the element of air into you. Air can lighten, uplift, and be motivational.
The simplest way to make this recipe/spell is very easy. Whether using dry or fresh mint (it doesn't really matter, just make sure it's cleansed in your preferred method, as well as all your other ingredients and cup), smash it in the bottom of a microwavable mug. It should be as smooth as you can make it. You can even add a little sparkling moon water and blend it. Add your sugar (or honey) and microwave it in 30 second intervals until you have a mint strawberry syrup (or until the honey is completely incorporated). Let cool for a bit, then add your chilled sparkling moon water to your taste. It's fresh, tasty, and infused with loving, caring magic.
If you're a baker like myself, you cal also use these ingredients to make all kinds of wonderful goodies for yourself or others. Let me know if you'd like a Sweet Cream Bread Loaf, Sweet Cake, Macaron, or Ice Cream recipe with this magic.
Go on out friends, live as well as you can with the energy you have to spare <3

I found this on TikTok and it honestly sums up my experience with my gender.
I found it a while ago, but it's a part of why I decided to use she/they. I love they/them, but I also have been raised with she/her and it doesn't bother me.
I still identify as nonbinary or gender queer.

Peace Spell, Vanilla Sugar
White sugar
Vanilla beans
Cover vanilla beans in white sugar and store in an airtight container. Whenever a room needs to be ‘sweetened’, sprinkle the vanilla sugar around the room and immediately vacuum it up.
Also enjoy in coffee and tea to feel inner peace.

Gardens when you are a city witch
Tumblr media
Hey pals! Guess who have been busy af so i just completely forgot to write a decent post of information for you… yeah me huhuh. But like school and other things get me stressed bruh what do you expect.
Anyways, i started reading Garden witch by Ellen Dugar because of a book club and… look not gonna lie, at first i thought it was going to be useless af for me because i live in a city, the capital of my country, and like it is a brick jungle so idk man. BUT THEN, i remember that the fun part of witchcraft is that you don’t have to do what all do right? Just follow some security things and go with your craft, so here are some alternatives for when you want a garden but life is unfair so you live in the city :)
Fist of all, what is a garden witch?
Garden witches are exactly what they sound, witches that base their practice or gain power through gardens and plants! Just like forest witches, but more garden ish? If that makes sense to you xd.
Can i be a garden witch without a garden?
yeah, let me explain.
Explanation time i guess
So, like many peeps don’t go through the path they want because of their environment, and like mood because im the same xd. I can’t work with spirits because of the toxic family and i guess some witches think they can’t be nature witches because they live in cities.
FAKE.
Like yeah sometimes you just can’t have a garden but… you can have plants. And i mean, i know there is a difference but like… stick with what you have ;-;
I actually built a garden this year, uh just like grabbed some sticks (like big ones omg) and a… idk like for a base? And lowkey expected them to grow? They died, not because of the garden, more because i suck, BUT IF I COULD YOU CAN TOO!
Also, you live in the city, and if you can buy, there are actually tons of shops where you can buy small gardens, or flowers! I would personally (if i worked with herbs or plants, i actually don’t know shit about them aside poisonous things) buy like tons of flowers/plants and PAM THAT’S MY GARDEN.
Or you can do like my granny that just buys seeds and like all the process but in a little pot! Ofc, like you can’t have ALL because of lack of space, but you can have the necessary for your craft, and if not… buying is always an option.
I have always said, your path your choice, and i stick with it. Look, ofc, most of us want to follow the cottagecore aesthetic and run into the forest and then come back to see your cow or smth. BUT NO WE CAN’T, so be creative and good luck!
