Below the cut, you will find our site timeline. Keep in mind that it will change as we move through the site plot, and let us know if you have any questions / ideas as to how to improve it!
1963 Albus Dumbledore becomes Headmaster of Hogwarts.
1965 Tom Riddle asks for – and is subsequently denied – the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor. Every year since, some misfortunate has befallen any who take this position and none last more than one year.
1968 Tom Riddle – now known as Voldemort amongst his followers – slowly amasses a group of like-minded individuals. Those most loyal to him bear ancient names, making it easier for other so-called purebloods to follow in their footsteps.
1973 Antonin Dolohov, the heir of a formerly devastated house, begins trading weaponry both inside and out of the UK in an effort to rebuild his family’s fortunate and name.
1973 Voldemort’s following – now called Death Eaters – begin to infiltrate the Ministry of Magic. Those with old names often find themselves higher up in the ranks.
1974 Albus Dumbledore forms the Order of the Phoenix to combat Voldemort’s growing influence. Among their ranks are powerful wixen and recent graduates alike.
1975 Voldemort’s influence can start to be felt in The Daily Prophet, with articles outlining the unfair benefit Muggles seem to have over wixen. Popular opinion begins to turn in his favor as the press followers his agenda through his followers’ involvement in the Ministry. Many journalists protest the propaganda and some lose their jobs. They are easily replaced by Death Eaters and other purist propagandists.
1976 Antonin Dolohov has won back his family’s fortunate in a remarkable amount of time. Envious of his success, other families follow suit. Soon their influence is felt keenly in Wixen UK - with protection rackets, assassinations, illegal magical creature trade, and cocaine laced with magical ingredients plaguing the streets.
1978 Dumbledore reaches out to magical creatures, promising equality in exchange for aid as the war grows dire. Some accept his offer – others turn to Voldemort instead, who has offered them power in exchange. They won’t need to be equals, he promises, because those who walk by his side will be better.
1978 The Marauders, Lily Evans, and Severus Snape graduate from Hogwarts. Their destinies remain tightly intertwined.
1979 The word “Mudblood” is published in The Daily Prophet for the first time in over one hundred years. Protests break out, but men and women in silver masks silence those who decide to fight. The papers – as ever – refuse to report on any dissent. Meanwhile, wixen on Muggle violence becomes more prominent, along with increased British nationalism.
1979 As a result, Muggleborns are withdrawing from Hogwarts at a rapid rate. Enrollment is at an all-time low from their demographic during the 1979 school year.
February 1980 Sybill Trelawney, in an interview with Albus Dumbledore for a position as Divination professor, reveals that a prophecy that the one with the power to vanquish Voldemort will be born as the seventh month dies. Severus Snape overhears the prophecy and relays it to Voldemort, who soon discovers it can either refer to the Longbottom or Potter child. Early on, Voldemort targets Potter due to the similarities in background.
1980 Soon after the prophecy, the Potters go into hiding on Dumbledore’s orders. Sirius Black is made the Secret Keeper. The Longbottoms remain unprotected due to Dumbledore's theory that the Potters are the ones being sought after.
Early 1982 Sybill Trelawney is taken hostage by Voldemort in case she produces anymore prophecies.
1982 A group of Muggles – all related to one wixen or another through marriage or blood – are accused of launching an attack on Ottery St. Catchpole. Wixen society is terrified, and the Muggles are the first non-magical persons to be thrown in Azkaban. Although the Order believes in their innocence, there is little they can do to sway public opinion.
1983 An article is published calling the Order of the Phoenix “rebel terrorists.” Recruitment, which has always been difficult for the Order, becomes increasingly challenging. Policy is passed that requires Muggleborns to register with the Ministry of Magic.
October 1984 It has been several years since the prophecy, with the Potters still in hiding after increased supervision. Convinced that Remus Lupin is a spy and due to increasing pressure, Sirius Black suggests that Peter Pettigrew should be the Secret Keeper instead. The Potters move to a separate safe house, unaware that Pettigrew is the spy instead.
October 1984 Armed with the knowledge given to him by Peter Pettigrew, Voldemort swiftly ends the lives of both Harry Potter and his babysitter, Gideon Prewett. Not long after, a group of Death Eathers attack the Longbottoms, killing Neville and torturing Frank into insanity. Alice Longbottom was not present during the attack, a fact not lost on Voldemort.
1984 Due to overwhelming public opinion, Muggleborn children face what is called a “temporary ban” from Hogwarts until investigations into Muggleborn magic can be completed.
1984 Many countries cease trade with wizarding Britain in hopes of persuading them away from purist ideologies. So far, it has only aided in the rise in illegal activity.
1985 Voldemort has taken over nearly every facet of the Ministry and the Press. Known Order members face unfair trials, all while being accused of domestic terrorism and murder. Whether true or not, some members have been sent to “re-education” camps, where they are forced into submission of pureblood ideals (at least outwardly). Few who survive the ordeal come out willing to rejoin the ranks.

MEMBER GROUPS
ROGUES
This distinction is for those chaotic types, the ones who thrive on disorder and disruption. These are the criminals who prey upon the wreckage of the Wixen world, taking advantage of law enforcement resources wearing thin. Also here you will find those ex-Death Eaters and ex-Order members who find their loyalties shifting during this war. All primarily mob-affiliated characters will also go here - assuming they do not have a higher calling.
ORDER
The Order of the Phoenix was founded by Albus Dumbledore when it was needed the most. It was a light in an otherwise dark world, but one day he hoped to create a spark. No fire of victory spread over the United Kingdom as he'd hoped, for right and good does not always prevail. Order members are now labelled as terrorists by the Ministry, with the horrors of Azkaban awaiting as punishment for their supposed treachery. Those who end up on the island are lucky to make it at all, for death while attempting to capture or in-transit is not uncommon these days.
There will be many former members of the Order, those who were taken to Azkaban and who were seen fit for release. The Ministry calls them The Re-Educated, the ones who learned from their supposed wrong-doings and who go on to be productive members of society. In addition, there will be plenty who were simply unfit for the task of trying to save the world. It is not what fairy tales and other such fiction make it out to be, after all.
At this time we will only allow up to 25 members of the order. Although its members are strong and brave and true, they do not have the numbers on their side. We absolutely encourage people to make ex-order members - feel free to have fun with it!
CIVILIANS
While one might be tempted to equate "civilian" with "neutral", it's best to fight the urge. Most characters on Noyade will be civilians, but they will have their own thoughts, feelings, and opinions on the war. With constant anti-Muggle propaganda pouring from The Daily Prophet, many in this category are left in a bit of a haze. Truth and honesty are rare traits these days, with facts constantly being muddled in favor of opinions or political intrigue.
Civilians will have a variety of allegiances. Some may be purists, some may be former Ministry employees who still believe in law and justice, and some may believe in what the Order is doing. However, they are not physically involving themselves in the war -- it is much safer that way.
DEATH EATERS
The purists whose names once meant something - whose blood remained pure through generations and generations - took up Lord Voldemort's banner at once. They would finally achieve the recognition they deserved - they would finally be rid of the Muggle stain on society.
He'd chosen the right group with whom to accumulate power, for their old names had long decorated plaques on Ministry walls. The take-over was quite simple, really - well placed bribes, allies already in position, gullibility run amok - and soon he was angling for a power the likes of which nobody had ever seen.
As his influence grew, so too did his following. Halfbloods who thought themselves better than those of Muggle blood and creatures who could finally taste the power after centuries of abuse... they flocked under his banner in hopes of a better tomorrow - for themselves and theirs, of course.
When they walked the streets, people stopped to stare - some with admiration, others with fear. The reason didn't matter much to them - they had power, and they would follow Voldemort to the ends of the earth for helping them to achieve it.

IMMORTAL LONGINGS SUBPLOT
Antonin Dolohov saw his family’s fortune and reputation dwindling. It’d started with his great-grandfather - a gambling man - and went on down the line until manors were sold to settle debts, cousins were found in the arms of muggles, and alcoholism became synonymous with his family’s once great name. They owed money to just about anyone who was willing to loan it out, and for awhile, it seemed Antonin wouldn’t be seeing any inheritance at all.
With a serious case of wanderlust and little keeping him in England, Antonin set off across the continent in search for a better life for himself and his family. In his travels, he stumbled across some very powerful weaponry across different cultures. Each new being or beast met meant a new outlook - the warlike selkies, the clever goblins, the powerful centaurs - they all had something special to share about battle and victory. And that seemed to garner quite a bit of interest in times of war.
He began his trade not just in battle-scarred Britain, but all over. Plenty of other countries had their magical squabbles, and many more witnessed the non-magical type. Wixen wanted to see their muggle relations come back from war unharmed, and what easier way to ensure that than to provide them with an advantage?
It didn't take long to purchase his family’s property and various heirlooms back, nor to improve his reputation throughout the wixen community. Suddenly, owls were beating down his windows with invitations to social events and business propositions.
Shortly after, others began to hope for what he had. The infamy, the glory, the fear he instilled was to be admired. Here was raw power, and they wanted a piece of it. As the Dolohovs took their rightful place in Wixen society, so too did a selection of some of its most ruthless and ambition families. The Selwyns, the Delacours, the Li family, and the Shafiq family, all rose up to Dolohov's unspoken challenge.
Soon the power of these five families grew, casting a wide net around Wixen UK with such rapidity that law enforcement soon became overwhelmed. The smooth, cool feel old gold in one's palm often spoke to a higher standard than did morality, especially in current times.
The mob - for that is what many people refer to it as - remains widely neutral in all things political and in this war. Within its ranks are people of all blood statuses: pureblood, halfblood, muggleborn, and even those who are tainted. Its members touch every realm of allegiance - there are followers of the order, there are steadfast supporters of the Dark Lord, there are ministry officials who wear badges of honor in the daylight hours, and most common: there are those who do not care one way or another.
MAJOR PLAYERS
The Dolohovs: Antonin’s father and uncles came to Britain as young men, in an attempt to escape the massive debt their family had accrued in Russia and in hopes of rebuilding their family name to its former glory. Although they didn’t meet much success, young Antonin was a little savvier and had a lot more luck on his side. The Dolohov family deals mostly in the weapon trade.
The Selwyns: As war raged on, the Selwyn family saw an opportunity. People needed a way to forget their troubles, and businesses needed protection from delinquents who would use the torn-apart country for their own personal gain. They saw the success of the drug trade in the muggle world and decided to market their own concoctions. Meanwhile, with the rise in crime between this new drug use and the war, businesses suffered more loss than ever. They were glad to pay protection fees if it would only keep them safe.
The Delacours: The daughter of a veela, Apolline Delacour could never get anyone to take her seriously. Everyone wanted to see her dance, to see her smile, to see her in the finest dresses. Nobody wanted to hear what she thought, that is, not until she made them. Abandoning France and her own reputation, Apolline traveled to England in search of exotic beasts. How did the creatures from this cold land differ from the ones at home? When she saw the success of the Dolohovs, it occurred to Apolline that she could corner her own market. Soon her name became synonymous with the magical beast trade - with everyone knowing that Madame Delacour is the best in the business.
The Li Family: Originating from China, the Li family come from a long line of successful athletes. They are well known for their support of the quidditch community, but something darker rests below the surface. In certain circles one might here - and even then, in hushed whispers only - tell of contracts. Binding agreements made between two parties, sealed in blood. They say if you want to rid yourself of a problem - an unfaithful spouse, a political rival, an unreasonable boss - you need only say the name and it will be done. Provided you have the gold, of course.
The Shafiqs: A family with Arabic roots, the Shafiqs grew envious of the fame and fortunes of the other four. They are known as the jacks-of-all-trades, for this family has their finger in just about every pie. Although they do not wield as much power as the other four, it is not for lack of ambition. Still, they must watch where they step, for their competition is fierce.

VERITY TIMES SUBPLOT
The Daily Prophet - once a bastion of truth and honesty - has fallen into the hands of a erasure and cover ups. Propaganda litters its pages, deaths are not always reported accurately and - in certain cases - are ignored entirely, and anyone who dares to speak out is accused of inciting violence. A small group - interested in preserving journalistic integrity - have taken up their pens in protest.
They meet in an abandoned muggle factory outside of Bynmawr, Wales, careful never to reveal their location to anyone other than the original five founders of Verity Times. Their work places targets on their backs and prices on their heads, but they’ve long ago accepted that they may not make it out of this war alive. They have many enemies - from those who rally in support of Voldemort, to those who align themselves with the mob, and on up to the Ministry itself.
If only the identities of these journalists could be revealed, their lives would surely be forfeit.
Their work is thankless, often done in addition to their full-time jobs. They distribute their pamphlets for free - eating the costs themselves - because they know that the truth must be revealed.
VERITY TIMES VOLUNTEERS
All are either Order members or civilians.
Editor in Chief: Though the paper is a cooperative between its five members, the one who originally thought up the idea of Verity Times took on the most important and most dangerous task among them. He or she is the one with the highest price on his or her head, with most people assuming that the Editor in Chief is the leader. | Open
Obituary Writer: It’s a shame that nobody cares about the dead anymore, or that some of them matter more than others. The man or woman who writes the obituaries for the underground paper does so with meticulous detail. Every person’s story should be told with accuracy, especially at the very end. | Open
Unexplained Events Investigator: Next to the Editor in Chief, this person has the most treacherous job. Certainly the bravest of the crew, the investigator is the only one who leaves the relative safety of the warehouse in order to actually explore what is going on in the world. Being forced to ask so many questions means he or she is more likely than the rest to be caught, and so diligence is required. | Open
Writer of the “Fact Check” Column: This person finds the most grossly misinterpreted articles of The Daily Prophet and corrects them, so their readership might know the truth about world events. | Open
Radio Host: They are the jacks of all trades. They work to draw up a report on each of their colleagues’ work and talks about it on the underground radio.
They only have perhaps two hours each day with which to communicate with the wizarding world, but their voice provides a great deal of comfort around Britain to those who are affected the most by this war. | Open

full name: severus | snape
age: 25
zodiac: capricorn
moral alignment and/or mbti: lawful evil [ chaotic neutral ] - INTJ
wand: 11 1/2″ blackthorn with phoenix tail feather core
patronus: patronus? what patronus? wait, what’s happiness?
amortentia: that settled smell of a well worn book, a warm curl of dust and dirt just as a rainstorm starts to fall, the indistinguishable simmer of varying potions, the soft fragrance of pollen and contrasting with the sharpness of grass and ragweed with a faint hint of something floral beneath it all, and, finally, the sharp metallic tang of blood.
strengths: self confident, talented, knowledgeable, relentless, hardworking, photographic memory, talented duelist, self motivated, curious, loyal
weaknesses: shitty as fuck self esteem, will go down with that sinking ship, fuck that martyr complex, apathetic as hell to the plight of muggleborns, does’t really give much a damn about the war actually, can’t hear you telling him not to do something once he decided to do it, can get a little (very) single-minded in his work, will win against you in a grudge holding contest.
favorites: creating new spells and potions, discovering new dark magical artifacts, silence, books about arcane magic, puzzles (brosky can be found doing crosswords and sudoku when he’s dead bored), seeing the world / travelling it
fun head canon: Hogwarts drop out. 99.9% over Lily - that 0.1% is the fact that it’s kind of hard to not have a soft spot for your first crush who also just happens to once upon a time be the epitome of all things good in this world. Has a sweet tooth, will not admit to having a sweet tooth. He doesn’t like chocolate though. Pansexual.

it may be late, but the party is just getting started! ok maybe just for us.
before the discord opens tomorrow, we wanted to give y’all a heads up on when it’s opening. check back here around 6pm EST for the link to our discord so we can get started on all our glorious plotting!
also, below the cut you will find one of our subplots. sorry for keeping y’all waiting, but the rest of them will be coming very soon!
can’t wait to chat with y’all soon! noyade staff
There has always been something morbid about the ocean.
With depths so boundless, one can never be quite sure what the sapphire waves are hiding beneath the surface. Sharp coral, to be dragged down upon, fast currants to sweep ships astray of their path, soft voices, coaxing sailors quietly to their doom. The sea was an unexplored terrain, an enigma most wizards wouldn’t dare to broach for the next hundred years or so. Europe’s oceans, seas, lakes and rivers were fickle, mysterious places, but nothing so mysterious as the creatures that resided within.
Except one wizard, curious about the beings from beyond the shore, decided to study as much as he could about the merpeople that were rumored to lurk in Hogwarts’ very own lake. When he finally made contact a few years into his teaching career, this lucky professor had the chance to forge a friendship between species, something unique, something rare.
After all, Albus Dumbledore had never been a man to aim for less than extraordinary.
And so the idea was first formed of asking the merpeople, and the vampires, the werewolves and the giants, to take up arms for the sake of the wizarding world. They were promised freedom, a new world order where they didn’t have to hide in fear of persecution or judgment. They would be recognized as equals, as citizens of the magical community, something that had previously been denied to them due to old prejudices.
There were skeptics who scoffed at the wizard’s war, turned their backs and told them to fend for themselves. Life was hard enough existing as a magical creature, it would only be harder still fighting in a war they had no hand in starting. Yet some decided it was best to join Lord Voldemort, whose power had risen to strength they had never seen before. Others decided to follow the kindness they had seen in Dumbledore, whose lack of recent triumphs did not indicate a lack of will to forge ahead.
In the end it was advised all participants tread carefully, to avoid the merciless fathoms below.
In this subplot, there will be leaders for both the Order and the Death Eaters representing different creatures, such as werewolves, sirens, and vampires.
