11 Excuses For Why You Didn’t Play the Humans vs. Zombies Weeklong (And Why You Should)
When it comes to trying to get new people to play Humans Vs Zombies, we often hear the same excuses over and over. As someone who didn't play their first semester, I can wholeheartedly say that it is one of my biggest college regrets. I've been there. I've said some of these things. I understand, and that's precisely why I wrote this.
1. “I don’t have enough time.”
We all understand this one. This is college, after all. However, I can guarantee that you'll want to make time for this! You only have to play as much as YOU want to. You're not required to attend every mission (but they are a lot of fun!). It's also only a week out of the semester. We don't expect you to come to a club meeting once a week. If you want to participate weekly, we do run mini games Tuesday nights at 8 on Parker Quad.
2. “I’m too stressed already.”
Let me tell you, there is nothing better than relieving stress through HVZ. You get to run around, look like a badass when you evade a near-”death” experience as a human, or get the satisfaction of tagging your friends and turning them into zombies.
3. “I’m not athletic.”
If you knew me, you'd know I'm the least athletic person around. I won't get into it too much, but just know that I have a laundry list of health issues and I might as well be an 85 year old man. This does not stop me from playing! For one thing, it's only a week! For another, you don't have to be fast/athletic. Some of the best zombies are the sneaky ones.
4. “I don’t have Nerf.”
This might be one we hear the most often. But guess what. YOU DON’T EVEN NEED NERF TO PLAY! Got a bunch of lonely socks without their twin or with holes in it? Ball them up! But please, wash them first. Got $2? Head over to the hardware store to purchase yourself a brand new shiny blowpipe (aka ½ inch PVC pipe at a max length of 3 feet). You will however need darts for this. Socks and blowpipes work just as well if not better than a lot of Nerf blasters. In the past, we have also raffled off blasters for new players at our GIs and given away some as prizes at our other events such our Zombie Carnival.
ALSO....WE LEND OUT BLASTERS NOW!
5. “I don’t know anyone who plays.”
You have two options here. Drag your friend(s) to a GI with you, or make new ones during the weeklong! I know, you probably groaned at the second option, but I'm not lying when I say that we are ~150 of the most friendly people you will ever meet. Many of us have made our closest friends here. We are one big family who welcomes all :)
6. “I don’t live on campus.”
There's no rule that says that you must live on campus to play. In fact, a lot of our players don't live on campus.
7. “It looks embarrassing/dumb.
Looks can be deceiving, and don't knock it till you try it! If you're having fun, then who cares how you look? If you're concerned with that, be the zombie that gets the most tags, or the last human standing.
8. “I don't know how to play.”
We will teach you! For your convenience, we have 3 GIs before each weeklong. Check our Facebook pages, website, or posters for more info!
9. “I don't know where/when to meet.”
During the weeklong, we will meet at the location and time set for all days as mentioned at the GIs. As for mini games, we always meet at 8pm on Tuesdays on Parker Quad (weather permitting) and Sundays at 4pm in the Elting Gym (this varies per semester). We will always keep you informed on our Facebook page if anything changes.
10. “I have too much homework.”
We all understand this one. This is college, after all. However, if you find yourself with an hour or so of free time in your schedule during the week, why not plop yourself down into the library or computer lab and work on homework while you camp out from the zombies. (We recommend being outside a lot and playing as much as possible because it's fun, but we understand that you have work to do). Additionally, a lot of us try to do work in advance to free ourselves up for the thrilling, once-a-semester weeklong.
11. “I'm afraid of zombies/I don’t like zombies.”
I promise, they're not real. The “zombie component really is just the “opposing team.” If it helps, pretend they're something else!
So what’s stopping you? Come out to our GIs this week!
Before you can indulge in the zombie apocalypse, you must attend a GI!

GGI Recap
Hello all,
Here's what you missed if you couldn't make the GGI meeting yesterday (sorry I forgot to post an announcement on tumblr):
People arrived.
I directed people towards SUB 62/63
I demonstrated exactly how NOT to behave and accidentally shot my friend in the eye with a hammer shot... (The sad thing is that I was aiming for his nipple).
President Bryan told everyone to settle down.
President Bryan introduced himself and the eboard members who were present at the meeting.
President Bryan went over some basic rules:
DBAD: Don't be a dick. It is our cardinal rule and most issues in the game can be resolved by thinking about this philosophy. "Hm. Is it dick to push someone down so that the zombies tag them and not me?" The little voice in your head should shout "YES THAT IS DICK!" and then you know not to do that.
Bandanas: they are bright orange and provided to you by the club. Humans wear them around their upper arms, zombies around their heads.
Moderators: we have a group of moderators who are identifiable by the orange bandana they wear around their legs in addition to the one they wear in accordance with their human or zombie affiliation. The job of the moderators is to make sure the game runs smoothly. If you encounter any problems, alert a moderator and he or she will remove his or her zombie or human bandana to talk to you and help sort out the trouble.
Blasters: THE WORD "GUN" DOES NOT EXIST IN THIS GAME. We call nerf guns nerf BLASTERS so as not to upset UPD or alarm other people on campus. We know they're toys, most people know they're toys, but please let's just keep it safe and be respectful. Also if you wish to paint or decorate your blaster please try not to paint it too realistically, but whatever you do, YOU MUST KEEP THE TIP ORANGE BECAUSE IT IS NEW YORK STATE LAW.
Tagging: a zombie tag only counts if the zombie has tagged the human with BOTH hands. It must also be an appropriate touch -- no boob grabs, dick grabs, or ass grabs. (If you are confused about that, reflect on DBAD). Also "blaster" tags do not count, that is, if a zombie tags your nerf blaster rather than your body, it does not count.
Stunning zombies: you have two options: hit the zed with a foam nerf projectile from your blaster, or hit it with a sock. If you have successfully done either of these things, the zombie will then put its bandana around its neck and go about its business unable to make any tags for a full 15 minutes. When that time is up, the zombie puts its bandana back around its head and the game is on.
Where you can play: no playing indoors. That's it.
Then we watched Shaun of the Dead and had a lovely time indeed! =)
Thanks to everyone who came, it was fun! And the rest of you are lame! Just kidding, but I hope to see you at the next GI meeting :D

THE DAY GAME IS UPON US
Guys. Tomorrow's the day. The first day of the rest of your (college) lives. The moment you get that blaster or sock in hand and take aim at your first zombie and fire will change you forever.....and then you miss dismally, turn and run screaming like a little girl, trip, and get tagged. Lol jk, maybe that won't happen to you, but that's DEFINITELY how my first day game went :p
ANYWAY! See you losers tomorrow here:
Sub concourse
2pm-5pm

A few other things to note:
Don't forget to join the forum because it will be your best friend in terms of meeting people, getting questions answered, and getting immediate updates: https://www.facebook.com/groups/129725487074349/
Do not be discouraged from coming to the day game because of lack of nerf, we will try and help you out. At the very least we'll be able to provide you some socks.
...There actually isn't anything else that I think needs to be said right now, but I wanted a third point.
