And it's like chill and casual, being in love with your childhood friend is literally so normal why are you overreacting I am so normal about roy also

Al telling Ed "if you don't stop [beating this guy up] he'll die" was so stuck in my memory I assumed it was repeated a lot in early chapters--but no, on rereading i realized it's only said twice, there's just a diabolical contrast in tone between the first time (played for laughs, while Ed reflexively takes out some trainjackers):

Halfheartedly reining in Ed's comedic chaos as the exasperated voice of reason, part of their iconic sibling dynamic;

Halfheartedly stopping his brother because Tucker absolutely deserves it, brimming with just as much rage and disgust as Ed and only seemingly calm because he doesn't have a face that can emote
