Taking a step forward

it’s been quite some time since I last did anything drawing related on here. I think that it’s about time I change that!

These be true words.

When you want to make a despicable character, an absolutely evil beast of a person, an ultimate plague on the land, but you need them to be oh so sickeningly sweet with their significant other, they just shower their partner in love and adoration.

whatever you do, keep making art. write in clichés. paint in colours that are too bright. speak in poetry. sketch everything. allow yourself to make mistakes. grow. hold tight to it when everything goes wrong - whatever else happens, you’ll always have the art.

If you're a creator and you needed to hear this today:

You have no idea how many people lurk on your work. No idea how many times people go back to revisit your work. How big they smile when they simply think about your work. How fast their heart beats, how excited they get when they see that you posted something.

People are shy with their feedback. Sometimes it’s because they’re simply shy. Other times it’s because they assume you already know how great and talented you are. Could be both.

My point is, even if you barely have any likes or reblogs, don’t get discouraged. You have a lot of silent fans, but they are still your fans. Keep on creating. Because there is always someone out there who will love what you have made.

pleeeeeaaaaase don’t make fun of people for being overenthusiastic about their interests. if you see someone getting really excited about something and you think it’s a good idea to ruin their fun (and don’t think people don’t notice your eye rolls and side glances) you’re an asshole

If you’re an artist, then this is for you.

This year, I want you to be unapologetic when you create.

Don’t apologize for your writing, drawing, music, designs, films, sculptures, cosplays, knitting, sewing, cooking, and anything else I might’ve missed.

Don’t apologize for the quality.

Stop being afraid of what you can accomplish. You might think you can do so much better, well guess what? You will. You’re always improving. But if you start to apologize for the best you can do at this moment, then you might restrain yourself, stop yourself from taking risks that will help you.

I know this is a hard thing to stop. I do it all the time. When I submit art to people that I’m not so confident about, I’ll apologize in advance.

This year, I challenge you, and myself, to stop doing it.

I’m so proud of all of you for still doing your thing despite the internet’s endless jokes.

When I was a kid, I was teased and mocked for it to the point that I stopped drawing altogether. I gave up something I adored, something that made me happy, because of people who just wanted a cheap laugh.

Don’t do what I did. Never stop creating what you love! You’re doing great, and I’m cheering you on!
