Rhys nodded in agreement. “Yeah, even with the hike, it wasn’t the most fun. They’re hopefully coming in to visit soon, though, so that makes up for it. Your whole family’s back in Texas?”

“that’ll be nice. i don’t know what i’d do without my family.” she smiled and nodded. “ya, born and raised.”

“i couldn’t agree more. we’re normal people who just happen to make music and like to go out to eat every once in a while.” the blonde huffed as she followed sia, holding her hand to block the view of the paps who were yelling incoherent things at the girls.

| ◤° [ ‘ I JUST THINK like, when it’s someone like me looking at it. i always initially am like, well shit i’m never going to get a body like this. then i remember, no, i know these people and the definitely don’t look like this either. ’ while she loved her body, to an extent, it was hard not to compare to the flaw free spreads of models and celebrities that she saw in magazines.

“oh same, it takes many hours with a trainer and a strict diet to even look half of what i do in magazines. it’s so silly that they think we don’t want to just look normal you know? like i just want a cute pic with me in my cowgirl boots, but it’s never that simple.”

| ◤° [ ‘ PLEASE, NO ONE should want to be me, but i am quite proud of myself. my first thanksgiving where i cooked. ’ her first, but likely not her last unless counting the company she’d kept. ‘ mm, something about yo ma’s homecoming is better no matter how hard you try though. ’ 

“well that’s certainly something to be proud of. and psh, i’m sure everyone wants to be you.” dixie smiled, it was nice to have gotten into the kitchen herself this year too. “that is certainly true. i wished both of them could pass all the knowledge they have to me, but they don’t even write down the recipes!”

| ◤° [ ‘ FUCK. ’ HE FELT as if he’d forgotten something, missed something, but adriana hadn’t tld him of any upcoming events. not that he could remember at least. ‘ busy life now. i can’t even sleep. ’

“are you okay? i know of some great home remedies for sleep and stress if you would like them.”

| ◤° [ ‘ LORD ABOVE, IF one more of y’all accuse me of being soft all the time, i’m quitting and moving where no one can find me. rude as hell, all y’all. ’ he groaned, hands coming to wash over his face. ‘ you say your MA and all that, yeah? list is pretty much the same as yours. thankful for good family, good friends, having a good life. ’

“oh shush, you don’t even try to hide it.” she teased. “of course, had me meemaw and my cousins out there too. it was a grand ole time.” dixie nodded, bating him with her name for her grandma. “but we live pretty good lives don’t we lex?”

“Not much of anything, really. I called video chatted with my parents during the meal and went for a hike. The trails were pretty much empty, between the weather and the holiday. You flew out?” They knew that their industry-related stress was only beginning, and could imagine that the need to get away would be massive, even by next year.

“that’s a shame you couldn’t spend it with them in person.” dixie smiled sadly, she was thankful that she didn’t have to spend this holiday alone this year. “though i am quite jealous of that hike, nothing beats an empty trail. but yea, i flew back to texas for most of the week, it was a good time.”

“I flew out to New England to go to Beth’s house. I got to see my nephews, which is always nice,” Alistair said with a fond smile. He pulled up a picture on his phone, showing him in a sweater and jeans, at his sister’s house. Two small twin boys were climbing on him like he was a jungle gym. “My sister got on me about not going to church again, though. Well, myyoungest sister. My other sister spent half the time in the corner, making business calls to Hong Kong. Meanwhile, my brother brought his girlfriend of two weeks and she’d dumped him by the end of the night. I thought Mom would have an aneurysm.”

dixie listened patiently, smiling at the photo as alistair looked slightly out of place compared to how he usually was, but happy nonetheless. “it’s a cute and dysfunctional family, no other way to have it right?” she smiled, giving him a small nudge. “well, my granny still refuses to give me any of her recipes until i give her grandbabies and everyone got too drunk for their own good.”

“Dude, I spent Thanksgiving eating Chinese takeout alone in my pajamas, watching stop-motion movies, and it was awesome!” Elle said. “Family is overrated, alone time is the best.”

“well, i’m glad to hear you had a nice time either way. unfortunately i’ve had more alone time than family time in recent months. so it was nice to spend some time out of la. i’m sorry you’re not close with your family though.”

“so did you have a good thanksgiving?” dixie smiled, giving a small shrug. “i have to say, it was nice to have a little break and spend time with family. too bad it ended too soon and i’m back in la.” maybe she should move back to texas, it might not be a bad idea after all.

“no! that’s like...a sin. i don’t think i could’ve survived the night like that. i’m such a baby when it comes to my feet hurting.” dixie smiled, knowing full well she’d complain but bear it just for the aesthetic. “congratulations! that’s so exciting!”

     " i can say this now that the awards are over with but those heels were killing me. someone messed up the order and got me a half size too small and let me tell you, – walking around in those were a literal nightmare. much love to all the support that i got from the event, it was surprisingly a great time. momma came home with a prize. “

“you could’ve just come back to my place if you wanted. i didn’t realize what a madhouse it was going to be today.” she sighed, always wary and extra cautious around paparazzi. her late husband had thrived under the flashing of lights and cheeky smiles, while they simultaneously annoyed and terrified dixie. 

| ◤° [ ‘ GOD, I CAN’T stand this shit. ’ the small blonde mumbled, raising her hand to cover her face from the snapping cameras and paparazzi that waited outside as she exited the restaurant. ‘ this, ’ she muttered to her companion, ‘ is why i hate meeting you for lunch. because they do this and i’m just too fucking tired right now. ’

“wow, i aspire to be like you one day.” dixie laughed, impressed by barbie but not surprised. if anyone could do it, it would be barbie du haven. “i was lazy this year and went home to let my momma and grandma cook for me. nothing beats home cooked meals that’s for sure.”
