Celebrate Name Day Today! @eduardvoltas

Today celebrating Name Day! @eduardvoltas ‏  Celebrate Name Day Today! #nameday Celebrate Name Day Today!  I don’t wish you the life of a star for it’d be far too long. I don’t wish you the life of a flower for it’s be too short, but I wish you the beaty of the star and the hope of the flower… and I bid you best wishes for your name day!   Today is a special and important day because it’s your name day. You’re the only one with such a noble, marvellous, happy name. Best wishes. A name day is a tradition in some countries in Europe, Latin America, Catholic and Orthodox Christian countries in general. It consists of celebrating a day of the year that is associated with one's given name. The celebration is similar to a birthday. The custom originated with the Christian calendar of saints: believers named after a saint would celebrate that saint's feast day, or in the Eastern Orthodox tradition, the day of a saint's death. Name days have greater resonance in the Catholic and Orthodox parts of Europe—Protestant churches showing less veneration of saints. In many countries, however, name-day celebrations no longer have connection to explicitly Christian traditions The celebration of name days has been a tradition in Catholic and Orthodox countries since the Middle Ages, and has also continued in some measure in countries, such the Scandinavian countries, whose Protestant established church retains certain Catholic traditions. The name days originate in the list of holidays celebrated in commemoration of saints and martyrs of the church. For example, the name Karl or Carl is celebrated in Sweden on January 28, the anniversary of the death of Charlemagne (Charles magnus, i.e., "the great"). The church promoted celebration of name days (or rather saints' feast days) over birthdays, as the latter was seen as a pagan tradition. Where name days occur an official list is held containing the current assignations of names to days. There are different lists for Finnish, Swedish, Sami, and other countries that celebrate namedays, though some names are celebrated on the same day in many countries. From the 18th century and onwards the list of name days has been modified in Sweden and Finland. Read the full article

Evening on the Ohio.
Tumblr media
Evening on the Ohio. By Charles Murray Stephens read for librivox dot org. My name. Evening on the Ohio. The slow sun sinks beneath the edge of day. Work earth and sky lie locked in founder breaks. From he can allege the last light leaps asylum throng. The shadows gathering steel along. In dark procession up the hills on the Kentucky shore. And rocked a policy of waving green. They glide still on up to flee. In mingled with a far unseen fragment of infinity. The silent river drops from rails that lie concealed beyond the veil of mystery the twilight weaves a forked the lessening international. From earth to heaven inflows in peace more gentle than the wave of leaves awhile the winds for respite cease. Now a bark majestic rights out of the mess. It's steady light streams on before hurling the waters in a calm polite. The stern a little tremor glides along the surface altering the stillness of its placid mean. Calmly imposing and serene. The craft unswerving passes down. Beyond the groves and Harper bar. He shouted wharf and silent town. And in the distance paints away as faints the morning star or spirit to eternity. Sacred peace reigns over all the scene. Through the stillness comes the throbbing because of the nature heart with magic power to purge away the dross of life until they're fall. The fleshy curtains from the soul. And yet released and dumb. Forgetting how to pray. Yes stands in adoration. Of the power that made it. And a poem. This recording is in the public domain.
