This is right next the barangay office and there is a current construction ongoing. It is 70% complete. I wasn鈥檛 able to ask why this was being constructed as it slipped my mind. But I saw it as a developmental process for the sustainability of the barangay and area of the people.

This was the photo I took when I visited the Brgy the first time. I visited this place twice. First time, there were no officials available. And I didnt have a an NSTP shirt but I still decided to take a photo of the barangay office.

I had the opportunity to have an educational and an entertaining discussion about disaster risk reduction in Brgy. Del Monte. I though we were going to have the interview in the front office that is viewed in front of the barangay. But I noticed I was headed inside the office into a specific room. I figured that was where his office was located. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to have a discussion with him.

Barangay Experience: Disaster Risk Reduction on Brgy. Del Monte
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 I had 3 barangays to choose from as I have 2 houses I reside in. The first house is in Project 3, Almaciga St. Quezon City which is near Brgy. Claro. I have another house where it is located at Parkway Village, Christine St. Quezon City and it is near Brgy. Apolonio Samson. This house was also near another barangay which is located near Frisco and it is Brgy. Del Monte. Now you might have suspected me to choose the ones that were the nearest to my house which was Brgy. Claro. I would have chosen that, but I didn鈥檛 really have connections there to be able to contact someone and ask for an ample of their time to have a nice hangout session and discuss about the barangay and its history of any disaster risk reduction within its timeline. I have chosen to interview in Brgy. Del Monte only because I had someone to be go with as they live right next to the barangay. I went with my classmate Raymond Pabello because I figured since we live near each other why not just do it together and make things much more convenient. However, to avoid similar answers and basis for the blog, we decided to interview different barangay officials and have it scheduled at different days.
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 As I walked in the front steps, I introduced myself as a UST NSTP student, and a friend of Raymond. Later on, I could tell they were looking for someone specific but then I stated that anyone no matter the position, as long as you are an official part of the barangay, we could have a discussion. I interviewed a Barangay official. I opened up with asking the classic how he is and began the convo as if it was a friendly discussion rather than the typical formal interview. I proceeded with asking the guide questions that were on the course site. He openly discussed the history of the barangay. He took me to a trip down memory lane discussing the events of Typhoon Ondoy during 2009 and how it was a drastic effect towards their barangay. Whenever it would rain hard or flood, the lower or steeper area of the streets around the barangay would be the heavy barer of the floods effect. Since there are 2 rivers close by, it does really flood really hard reaching all the way to head height. It was an unforgettable event to forget.
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Days after the event, there was a feeding program that was handled to reach out to everyone. There were no specific leader that handled the act of reaching out, everyone had the love and common good to help each other out. No one was left behind. Everyone helped each other. There was a time where a fire bursted nearby and it was a perfect example of how everyone led their hand out to help one another. All hearts were connected to help each individual.
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 People who lived at the higher area of the area were the class AB residence. This was a high place, they have the money to afford a higher and safe area to to secure their place of residence. Poverty, lack of jobs, drugs, and health conditions were a few to name that were evident problems they went through on their barangay.聽
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽There were 2 organizations invited of the programs, one for the info dissemination, another for the health benefits provided, and the process of conducting earthquake drills. They had emergency food and an emergency task force on the scene to provide assistance and everything else required.聽
