one of my favorite pieces of lone wanderer silvio lore is that he thinks mutation in the wasteland is highly exaggerated whilst living at vault 101 up until he meets a super mutant during his find his dad arc like his catch phrase at one point was “that’s not how radiation works…” he’s right… based on prewar textbooks. silvio knows physics, decay rates, and ionizing radiation. what he doesn’t know is that science broke its own rules centuries ago. hes genre savvy for the wrong script unfortunately the irony of him saying this and eventually ghoulifying is not lost

I wanna know more about Silvio, what's he like? Is he just as murderous as Wu-Yi?

oh, silvio. silvio is a problem wrapped in awkward charm, repressed trauma, and nerdy stubbornness. he’s the former lone wanderer from fallout 3, though he keeps that last part very, very quiet as he thinks the title is cursed. he’s not as outwardly violent as wu-yi, but "just as murderous"? depends on how you define murder.

here’s the thing about silvio:

on the surface:

polite, fidgety, dry sense of humor, talks with his hands

very good with computers, pip-boy programming, logistics, scheduling, inventory, he has a fondness for the concept of what pre-war is like, he carries a sketchbook so he can fill in the blanks of what was destroyed using hypotheticals

terrible at cooking. cannot tell when food’s gone bad. blames vault upbringing

tries very hard to seem normal and well-adjusted because he cares about what people think of him (initially), even though he is neither

has a “soft” presence, which fools people into thinking he’s harmless, he’s not, he will surprise you with his prowless

LOVES hubris comics, tragic the garnering, and holotape gaming

underneath:

he’s killed people. a lot of people. mostly in self-defense or survival situations, but the line’s blurred more than once.

one of the most defining moments in his life was killing tobar, the guy who mutilated him in point lookout,and realizing he liked the feeling of taking control back. it scared him. it also felt justified.

he’s full of guilt and self-loathing. doesn’t think of himself as a good person.

when pushed? when someone hurts someone he loves? he’s capable of real violence. it’s not pretty. it’s not theatrical like wu-yi’s brutality. it’s messy and cold, and laser gun guided as opposed to wu-yi's love of combat knives (dried blood is a terrible texture for him)

he doesn’t get off on killing like wu-yi, but if you threaten his people? he’ll ruin you. and then go throw up in a corner from the adrenaline crash.

other important things:

he’s trans, and secure in that, even if he doesn’t talk about it much

he has autism. hyperfixates on old tech, schedules, vault protocols, and pre-war engineering

his ghoulification is recent. he’s still adjusting to his body and self-image, trying to pretend it doesn’t bother him. it does.

Has Silvio ever met a nightstalker?

yes! silvio has definitely met a nightstalker.

in fact, after he finally moves in with wu-yi, he lives with one.

his name is pinto, and he’s wu-yi’s goofy, long-bodied, tongue-hanging, lizard-dog companion who sleeps on the couch (or in silvio’s spot on the bed if he gets up for five seconds). silvio wasn’t sure about pinto at first, he’d never seen a nightstalker up close before, and vault 101 definitely didn’t cover genetically-spliced snake-dogs in science class, but he’s warmed up to him.

now? they have a whole dynamic.

pinto is obsessed with silvio’s socks. he steals them constantly.

silvio feeds him treats when he thinks wu-yi’s not looking.

silvio has absolutely tripped over pinto at least four times in the bunker hallway.

he once screamed when pinto crawled into the bathroom with him, silent as death, and stared while he brushed his teeth.

that said, silvio actually finds pinto comforting in a weird way. he doesn’t bark, doesn’t judge, and he does wag his tail when silvio talks to him like a person. pinto’s become a kind of emotional support lizard-dog, even if he’s still a little uncanny.

and let’s be real, silvio likes animals more than he likes people most days. pinto just… makes sense.

so yes, not only has silvio met a nightstalker! he shares a home with one, tries to program his food dispenser, and may or may not call him “good boy” in a soft voice when he thinks no one’s listening.

How does the good doctor's business work? Like, is he the only doctor, what kind of place are they set up in, what kind of services does he offer, etc

the good doctor co. is this big humanitarian-slash-trading caravan empire based in new vegas, run by dr. min wong, built upon the ruins of his own pre-war pharmaceutical company, he’s not the only medical professional working there, but he is the reason the whole thing exists. the main HQ’s this old pre-war med-tech facility behind vault 21, refurbished, whitewashed, looks like it got yanked out of a 2070s pharmaceutical ad and dropped into the apocalypse.

they run like a combo of:

medical clinic

chem lab

salvage operation

field hospital

mobile market

and a surprisingly moral business

their whole thing is hiring ghoul workers alongside humans, to handle the radiated salvage jobs that normals can’t (or won’t) touch. ghoul lead caravans prospect irradiated ruins, old bunkers, factory zones, etc., and gather useful pre-war goods: food, chems, electronics, meds, weird tech. that stuff gets hauled back, decontaminated, repackaged, and sold to the general public. cheaper than crimson caravan, cleaner than the gun runners, and a hundred times more ethical.

the company’s broken into:

medical division (free clinics, mobile care, anti-rad treatment, wound care, counseling, even skincare stuff for ghouls)

salvage & detox division (ghoul-run teams gathering & processing irradiated goods)

caravan trading division (general goods, bulk supply, pre-war salvage, water, coolant, you name it)

logistics & security (heralded by silvio (assistant of the good doctor) and wu-yi (good doctor's right hand man) respectively, wu-yi is a cybernetic ghoul who will kill you for looking at him wrong, silvio is a socially anxious yet snarky ghoul nerd who probably scheduled your meeting)

the good doctor undercuts the crimson caravan on purpose because he's petty, which has led to a brutal rivalry between him and mclafferty. he pays his workers (especially ghouls) fair wages, builds community support, and helps out settlements the NCR ignores. he's a bit of a relic, part idealist, part doomsday realist, but everything he's built is functional, long-running, and surprisingly well-organized.

so yeah. he’s not the doctor. he’s the whole system.
