Tech & Innovation meet with Prof. Brandon Sichling
Submitted by Sara of the Tech & Innovation LLC
On Wednesday, November 15th, Professor Brandon Sichling came to speak to the Technological Innovation and Creativity LLC about game design and storytelling.
Professor Sichling’s work is highly interdisciplinary by nature. He is a storyteller and an artist using many different forms of media, from filmmaking to game design, to increase societal discourse on issues he is passionate about. I learned about not only game design, but how games can influence and impact their audience.

Tech & Innovation meet with Dr. Taskin Padir!
By Jack Warren
For one of our first events of the year, the Technical Innovation and Creativity LLC invited Dr. Taskin Padir, Director of Northeastern’s Robotics and Intelligent Vehicles Research (RIVeR) Laboratory, to speak about his work and how our group’s diverse set of majors and talents can all be applied to the rapidly advancing field.
Northeastern was one of the few universities awarded a NASA Valkyrie robot, and Dr. Padir detailed the work his team has been doing on improving the autonomy of the humanoid. He also showed off the team’s work on robots designed for disaster response, human assistance, and research, explaining how fields like neurology, electrical and mechanical engineering, psychology, and computer science are all converging to create the next generation of robotics.

At the end of his talk, he gave our group a tour of the RIVeR lab itself and talked about some ways we could get involved even as undergraduate students. We all really enjoyed the experience and thank Dr. Padir for his time!

Life in the Outdoor Adventure & Athletics LLC
By Natalie Reeder
Starting Northeastern as a member of the Outdoor Adventure LLC was such a fun way to get integrated into a community of fun-loving experience-seeking people just like me. In the first few days, I went to Marino with girls on my floor, started having adventures exploring the city, and went on a hiking trip with NUHOC. I love that whatever outdoor focused activity I am doing, I know someone else on my floor will be doing it too. I also started doing a workout program called November Project, that takes place in various parts of the city at 6:30 in the morning. Only the best mixture of peer pressure and positive support could get me running over four miles and working out on top of that before the rest of East Village has gotten up, and the friends I have made in my living learning community have provided that. I have also loved going on more NUHOC adventures, even going camping at the lodge in New Hampshire, with girls from the floor. You definitely become closer with someone when you wake up to find your sleeping bag is on top of theirs. What can I say, my friend Liz is a great pillow? As I continue working out with, exploring, and making memories with all the like-minded people on my floor this year, I am grateful that they, and all the wonderful experiences we will have together, are literally only steps away.

NU Foodies EV Pumpkin Pie Making Event!
On Saturday, October 14th the Honors NU Foodies East Village LLC got together in the kitchen of their Honors Living Learning Assistant, Diego, to make the festive fall treat. One LLC member, Courtney, summed up the event:
“To celebrate October, the Foodies EV LLC made pumpkin pies this past weekend! We all split up into groups of 6 and baked pumpkin pies in shifts from scratch, topped with whipped cream. It was really cool to meet new people in the LLC and talk about all our Halloween plans. This was our first LLC event and we're all super excited for the rest to come!”
