sooo i’m looking for a new show to obsess over. any recommendations? (and whatever you’re thinking, i’ve probably already seen it)

Cryptically hard question, Anon! But I'll give it a shot 😆

Now I'm not too sure what kind of shows you're into, but assuming that maybe you've seen me post alot about Skam or Euphoria? I'm going to work with that and then branch off😂

I personally watch a TON of UK shows, so idk if you have seen these, but if you haven't maybe you'd like them:

If you have seen/like Skam or Euphoria, then Skins might be a definite fit for you. They follow a similar formula of storytelling, although each episode usually follows a particular character all the way through. Every 2 seasons they switch to a new "generation" of characters, but this is a super well known show, so maybe you've seen it already. While Misfits, also well known, so you may have seen this too 😆. If not, it is about 5 young adults who are stuck doing community service, and during a freak storm, attain superpowers. Sounds crazy, but it's actually very well done. Personally the first two seasons are my favourite, but the show as a whole is good.

I feel like The Inbetweeners, Derry Girls and Some Girls all share a similarity, in that they all follow a group of friends that are all sort of outcasts/not really popular at school, who are CONSTANTLY getting into hilarious hijinks. The Inbetweeners most definitely started it all, and will definitely have you saying at least once in every episode "but, they're all such terrible people 😂😂 but they're hilarious". Derry Girls is MASTERFUL, similar in that sense, but completely original as a whole, every character is both lovable and hilarious. Some Girls is very much the female version of The Inbetweeners to me, but it's also so originally it's own thing and very enjoyable. Again, some of these are popular enough that you may have seen them 😆😆

Getting a bit more mature with these two! Fresh Meat is weirdly enough like a College/University version of The Inbetweeners, a group of older young adults constantly in cringe/hilarious situations with hilarious characters. I feel like this one is HIGHLY underrated, the whole college life mixed with hilarity is perfect, and over the course of 4 seasons you really see some interesting character arcs. Chewing Gum is on Netflix, and on the other hand is a lot more well known. The best cringe show you'll ever see about a 24yr old virgin struggling with how to adult and how to lose her virginity, A+ comedy with a cast of funny characters.

Idk how you feel about supernatural elements in your shows, but here's a couple! Now technically this is the same show, only one is the original UK version and the other is the newer US version. I personally love both, but I'm a bit more keen to the UK version. Both follow 3 characters who are roommates, one is a Ghost, one is a Werewolf, and the other is a Vampire. Dealing with elements of horror, comedy, drama... etc. I feel like the UK version is a bit darker and maybe a bit colder than the US version, so it really depends on your preference with either. Both shows however may have some similar plot moments, but ultimately completely divide into their own thing. So they really are two completely different shows plot wise😂

Penney Dreadful was a major obsession of mine, mainly because I really love Josh Hartnett 😆😆 but anyway, another supernatural one. Based in the past sort of Victorian era, but has a pretty interesting plot going for it. With vampires, werewolves, Dorian Gray, Dr. Victor Frankenstein and even Dr. Jekel and Mr. Hyde (idk if I spelled that correctly). It's very dark and sometimes graphic, but I think most of the horror elements are spot on and the mysteries are definitely intriguing. The characters are likable, and the ensemble is great. Eva Green is AMAZING in it.

Now I just started this one, I'm still on season 1, but the concept so far has me very intrigued. Following a 16yr old boy who's mother just died, he then goes to live with his eccentric rich grandmother, who also lives with her grown sons. Each one of his uncle's are pretty shady on one level or another. One just got out of jail and may be psychotic, one might definitely hate his guts, one seems a bit indifferent and the only one who seems like an actual decent person is technically the adopted one. And while the situation seems a bit odd, that's because it is. His grandmother and his uncle's all do different illegal heist jobs, and that's how they pay the bills. Once he learns this, this is when they question his ability to keep this secret and maybe even bring him into the family "business".

Hopping back to teens, Deadly Class is spectacular and it DESERVED a second fucking season! It was honestly the best stylistically, characters, plotlines, I loved every second of it and I had never even read the comics before. Set in the 80's with teens attending a school for assassin's, like WHAT! and the MUSIC OMF, and honestly the fact that the main character Marcus, has some of the best inner monologues and just narration going on 😆

Another UK gem that deserved more seasons! My Mad Fat Diary is honestly spectacular, dealing with self esteem, depression and suicide all while still being beautiful fun loving show that just gets everything done! I loved every character, and I feel like Rae really transcends as a main character. Because you don't need to be going through her exact situation to feel exactly what she's feeling, and the friends she surrounds herself with are amazing and so funny. And Finn! Ooffff loml, best character arc that occurred over literally a couple of episodes 😆 and ooooof the amount of Oasis you here is so lovely 🥰🥰🥰it's set in the 90s so yeah 😊

Let's end on Anne Of Green Gables or the newer Anne With An E. Two versions of the same beloved tale and amazing lovable characters. I'm going to call the 80's version the original, because it really is in the sense of Anne adaptations. It's iconic and dreamlike and I love revisiting it. It's pretty nostalgic for me, and I feel like it still holds up. Dealing with prejudice and bullying, found families and friendships. It's a softer tale, but it's still dramatically felt. While the newer version deals with a bit more, such as PTSD, homophobia, racism and more, it still manages to hold onto the values the OG set into motion. I honestly love both very dearly, and it may sound kind of preachy, but I guarantee you both shows handle these topics expertly. It never feels too heavy handed or shoved down your throat. Anne With An E is definitely diverging into new original storylines and it so interesting to watch!
