this was humiliating. absolutely absurd. completely inane ! five had driven plenty of times before, and he was good at it, too — so why now had that damn cop have to pull him over for that stupid light out ?

five explained that he was an adult - that he only looked like a 13 year old prepubescent boy - but with no license to prove it, it didn’t look good for him.

he stood in front of a beaming klaus as if the entire instance was a hilarious joke. five seethed in anger.

“ i am getting extremely tired of having you pretend to be my father to get out of these situations. it’s fine. ill just be more careful next time. ”

five brushed off luther’s sentiments towards their father — personally, he found it to be immature and juvenile, the fact that the other still held the man in such high regards. or tried to.

“ blind optimism. ” five stared as he began making a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich.

“ though, i think if that man told you that the earth was flat, you’d believe him. ”

Luther shook his head. “Dad always told us that you would be back.” He always assumed that his father’s belief came from a place of caring and grief. Recent events, however, had forced him to reconsider. “Maybe he knew, he always seemed to know,” Luther mumbled, his eyes glued to the floor.

five didn’t know why he had just opened up a fraction like that, to look so obvious and vulnerable — especially in front of klaus. he wouldn’t understand, not really. in fact, none of them could understand. they’re all just too young and naive.

his eyes flicked over to delores ( or what remained of her ), and he decided to blame the constricting of his chest on his irritation over klaus looming over him.

“ i didn’t just mean being lonely, klaus - i was completely and utterly alone. deserted. you could never even begin to fathom what that’s like. that thick skull couldn’t even conjure up the actual idea. ”

five took a breath. was he being overly rude ? possibly. but a hot anger burned in his stomach and he felt it melting through his veins. his younger siblings could just be so ... infuriating.

“ also - don’t call me little. you know how much i hate that. ”

not that he could be too threatening in the body of a small 13 year old.

“  i’ve been alone for so long i’m afraid i don’t know what it’s like not to be.  ”  ( for klaus ! )

As tempting as it might have been to make a comment about how offended Delores might be if she were to overhear that, Klaus resisted— barely.

“ And here I thought you were the one who knew just about everything, ” he half-heartedly mocked. “ If it counts, you didn’t miss much while you were gone— just a few extra years of neglect from our ever-so-sweet father and the foundations holding our family together collapsing. If anything, I’d say all of us have been alone in a way— obviously not literally trapped in an apocalyptic world where everyone’s dead but alone because there isn’t anyone even close to as messed up as us, besides our brothers and sisters, of course, ”the former superhero explained to his brother. After finishing his short ramble, he momentarily paused to take a sip of a margarita, then placed it back onto the counter top. “ I’m sure you’ll adjust soon enough, ‘ little ’ brother. ”
