Chapter 3

With his hands in his pockets and his eyes fixated on the direction of the floor; Captain of squad 14, Blaze Kagayaku, walked quietly along the hall to a captain's meeting. A feint sound of footsteps following close behind caused Blaze to raise his eyebrows and ever so gently turn his head behind.

"Hey Blaze..." Nyx rubbed her neck still so stiff. She looked like she haven´t slept for nights yet something in her eyes was showing a hint of distress.

"Nyx, hey!" Blaze greeted slowing his pace so that she could catch up to him, side to side. Blaze being one keen to details could sense that more than a stiff neck was bothering Nyx.

"So, ...rough night? I'm telling Amadalia, coffee is much better than tea" Blaze remarked with a slight smirk and nudge to Nyx.

She sighed. "Right now I would want someone here in the Research Bureau to develop something similar to energy drink from Human World." She walked slowly not really sure whether she wanted even to step through the door that already could be seen in far distance. She knew the procedure. She would get scolded for leaving Soul Society, then she would have to bear some stares for having a hollow for a pet and then she would probably have some space for talking.

"Yeah...it was a really bad one. We almost left Jinx´s arm there, Hype is still a bit out after getting Rawub´s magical syrup and I feel like something was stabbed right between my blades...ugh."

In thought and deliberation as to what he should say next, Blaze turned his head ever so slightly to think for a minute.

"Hey" Blaze started to grab Nyx's attention, the door to the captain's hall approaching closer and closer. "I'm sure that your friends are being taken care of, if they not already have been...right now Nyx Nowa needs to keep her feet on the floor...whenever a meeting like this is called, it's not a light situation." Blaze spoke realizing that what he was saying may not be the most calming or assuring thing that anyone could say in this situation. Blaze shook his head before pointing his right finger to his chest.

"MY advice… speak from here…" Blaze now began to move his hand up to his head; "…and not from up here."

Those were the kind words from her closest friend from the Captain rank. But instead of smiling she frowned.

"I was the one to ask for this meeting. Something is up in Hueco Mundo. And since you see what it had done to five of us, you can imagine what it could do if it got into Soul Society. Other captains need to know." She fastened her pace so they could have it all over. She always hated all the captain meetings. But at least there was one positive thing about them that were different from the past. The current Captain Commander Miyamoto got inspired ...ironically...from the seating of the Espada and since then it was possible to at least sit on one of chairs that have been placed around a big round table and focus on the topic instead of focusing on pain in feet.

Blaze gently patted his palm onto the hilt of his zanpakuto that was sheathed.

"A threatening dilemma.... Well let's just see what is brought up in the meeting, some will act in haste and want to do something irrational and drastic…" Blaze paused and removed his hand from his swords handle. "… but if you want my advice, red head to red head...with anything from Hueco Mundo I've learnt to tread with caution."

Nyx nodded her head as they were stepping close the the door. She stopped for a second. "We all know that Hueco Mundo isn´t fun these days...I know it best of all." Even after all these long year passed she never stopped searching for her ex Captain Byakuya Kuchiki. "But this is something we haven´t crossed our swords with yet. Being cautions is good....but hesitating too much can be even worse...." She sighed again and grabbed the handle. "We goin´in?..."

Blaze turned to Nyx and nodded to agree with his friend. "I hope you know, slow or fast that you have this captain at whichever pace is needed." A feint smirk running across Blaze's face for a while before disappearing again into a serious face. "Nyx, you have had many hardships, especially in recent times.... I have too…" Blaze only briefly allowed his worries to distract him. "...but if they teach us anything, it's that we have a choice...succumb or overcome!" Blaze placed his hand on the opposing handle to Nyx.

They opened the door as one....as only two red head people can (internal joke inserted XD)

"OF COURSE! LATE AS USUALLY!" A firm and strong voice was heard from the other side of room as they entered a big hall with a big round table with a glass sphere in the middle. Almost all seats were taken. Nyx frowned. This was typical for the Captain Commander. She could already see him sitting here almost 2 hours before meeting waiting for the latecomers. She locked her gaze with Blaze, saying ´You see?´ for the last time before going to her seat.

"Commander... I thought, I was the hot head?" Blaze saw a culmination of awe or shock in some of the stares that he received, smirked to himself and took his seat.

Nyx didn´t even bother to sit, she left standing near her seat. Every nerve in her body was in tense. She hated speaking in front of other people and still she was standing here with eyes of the rest 14 captains focused at her.

"Take your seat Captain Kagayaku and let´s listen to what Captain Nowa has to say to all of us. After all she called out for this meeting....after leaving Soul Society petering out to Hueco Mundo....again..." There was this mocking tone again. Anger started to build up in her. She looked at Blaze again with her eyes saying: ´I told you ...´ only to see his eyes stating ´calm down´ back to her. She took a deep breath and started to tell the story of them five being attacked by a huge Menos like thing in the sands of Hueco Mundo. During her talking she kept noticing stares from other captains.

Some were disapproving of her trips, some concerned about the mod hollows again. But except Blaze there were some who didn´t show any traces of disagreeing with her. Those few people were the pillars that were keeping her on her feet. She felt that there could be a way. Then she noticed a green haired captain smirk as he stood up asking for his word.

"If I may…" The green haired captain stood to his feet.

"Go ahead Exe." Miyamoto nodded.

The captain identified as Exe was tall and slim in stature, his lime green hair spiked backwards and parted with square glasses that rested on Exe's hairline.

"If you would all pay close attention to the following…" Exe continued in a very monotone voice. He slid a metal puck right on the top of glass sphere in the middle of the room. It glowed white before projecting a hologram that showcased a series of images.

"These images were scouted by a series of drones that...well were destroyed shortly after recording…“ Among the images were black creatures that were looking very similar to Menoses but these were different in particular details.

"Menoses in Hueco Mundo? What is it Exe?" Blaze Kagayaku chimed out above the crowd... Blaze not looking too closely to the images portrayed.

"Wrong!" Exe quickly corrected in his monotone voice. "If these aggressive creatures were Menoses then I would like to note the absence of their....absent portions." Exe pointed to the whole structure of the thought-to-be Menoses. “Except that another parts are quite different. The mask bones, the bone chain growths, their spiritual mass and another important thing…it seems, they have developed a unique kind of language. This hasn´t been recorded among standard Menoses yet.” Exe paused to let other captain absorb new information.

"These creatures are not only fully intact...but their nature and movement even; leads me to believe there is more than meets the eye... IF only I had one of these hollows under my dissection bench." Exe ended his speech, not noticing the looks that he brought on from few fellow captains.

Nyx´s stress grew as she got what he was implying in the beginning. "It can´t be proven whether the Menoses that we have seen have the holes somewhere on their body, if you´re implying this Exe." She was well aware that this thing would grow huge if it came to be true. "Those creatures were wearing masks...“

Exe ignored her complaint.

"Storing a hollow... consuming but not processing a hollow could be an interesting concept." Exe reached over to retrieve his metal device.

"If the Menos were to retain a hollow within their body, it would be a foreign design to even me....I love puzzles." Exe started to side track; folding his fingers over the bridge of his nose to think. "If only I had one to...analyze." His eyes were watching the other captains inconspicuously to read their attitude.

Nyx crossed her arms. It went exactly as she thought. The wrong way....this was the Soul Society, she knew....they would make some harsh ideas only to sew them up later...

"I disagree with this idea....I think they should be examined outside Soul Society...it´s not safe to bring some unexplored creatures here..."

She sat down finally since her body started to weaken up...she understood the situation from the looks on other captain´s faces. They wanted to go there, capture one of those things and bring it here. Now she knew they didn´t even listen to her when she was talking about the consequences of the fight from the day before.

"I absolutely disagree..."

This was more of a sigh than a normal statement.

Blaze could see the attempt of hiding distress on Nyx's face.

"I think that bringing any hollow here would jeopardize our safety... instead I suggest that we send Shinigami to seek and scout out these...whatevertheyare." Blaze spoke out, turning his attention to Nyx briefly, than over to Exe. Blaze stared to Exe, a friend and comrade that he had known for quite some time. Exe being one who rarely shows any change in facial expression....grinned. (Ah Blaze, never analytical) "Perhaps through field data...not dissection... I could come up with data for this new hollow race. As research and development head, I believe my argument to be strategic and just…" Exe sat back down and folded arms. Just before giving up word to his fellow captains, Exe turned to Nyx Nowa. "What do you suggest our next course of action be, Miss Nowa?"

Nyx put her arm on the table just to support her head. So many ideas swirling in... She knew that even facing these creatures again would a great risk, but then she suddenly remembered. "We need hollows.....” she snapped suddenly making a small captain with face looking like a skull; Honegumi to squeak, even though she wasn´t sure, whether it was from surprise or excitement as this captain seemed to be very interested in her hollow squad. "We need hollows...to fight hollows." Another disapproving whispering filled the room.

She saw captain Niko to shake her head along with captain Minonaki, captain Suraisa whispering something to captain Vargais, both smirking. ´Probably off the topic.´ she thought to herself. She noticed a gleam in eyes of Suri Nazomiya, not sure what to think about it. Hyou Jeaggerjacques and Honegumi were starring off but didn´t seem to disapprove at all.

Suddenly she felt someone poking her. It was Jo Morelli, the one arm captain with many scars and tattoos on her, sometimes looking scary yet being a supportive type. Jo showed thumb - up and smiled at Nyx. Nyx smiled back.

“Pifft…this whole Hollow Squad thing is just a bad joke.” It was a voice of a small woman captain Urawaase Senaka. Although she has been known as the most progressive captain so far, this topic seemed to grind her gears. “This is all against the laws of nature and afterlife. Hollows allays meant to live in Hueco Mundo not as toys for shinigami who need to compensate for….”

"SILENCE!" Commander rose from his position interrupting captain Senaka and all the muttering around. All captains focused their sights on the head of Gotei 15. All were expecting the verdict.

"Even though you know my opinion on this matter I think this would be probably the best idea. But we need to vote." he kept standing looking at Mathew Cimitara Suraisa on his left. "Those who agree with the idea, please stand up..." Nyx was the first one to stand up along with Suri Nazomiya, Captain of 5th Division a cheerful but strong captain who didn´t show any emotion during whole meeting...which was quite strange but helped this time.

Blaze Kagayaku and Exe stood up in unison. ´Cloaking, drone defense, pressure reduction clothes…´ Exe was already beginning to think of a list of things needed for departure; Blaze however turned to Nyx and nonchalantly gave a 'thumbs up' so that Nyx knew she had their vote. Next were Jo Morelli, Andrew Vargais and Mathew Cimitara Suraisa. The last one to stand up was always so mystical captain of 10th squad Honegumi.

In the very end, eight out of 15 captains were standing. It might seem to everyone that Nyx calmed down but she was in even bigger tense than before. She would need to go out now and talk to her members. She would need to announce this news not only to Hollow riders but also to her 6th squad. She was really thinking of giving up for this position but the sole memory of Renji and mostly Byakuya kept her in.

"I think, we´re done in this matter. Captain Nowa, inform me, when you plan everything." Hideki Miyamoto turned around, his long green scarf floating during the move and left the room through another door with the 0 squad Captain Suraisa right behind him. Nyx made a step to the door when a strong hand on her right arm stopped her. It was Blaze.

"Nyx." Blaze released his grasp on her arm, she could notice that to the right behind Blaze was 12th division captain Exe. "Tell me, what you need, when you need it... Though I'm still convincing myself to go through with this, I trust you...we trust you." Exe nodded in agreement. "Our squads will be behind the hollow riders."

“Same goes for squad seven…” it was Jo appearing behind Blaze. “…and fifteen…” Andrew Vargais crossed arms on his chest and smirked.

It was a first real warm smile that appeared on her face since they came back from Hueco Mundo.

"Thank you." They were the last members of Gotei 15 Captains to leave the room.

They parted their way almost immediately. All of them knew they will have to inform their squad members and none wanted to wait any longer. Nyx rushed to the 6th squad. Hollow riders group will take some time and she really needed to focus on what she had to tell her members. She saw Haldis flying high above her. This was Zeke after all connected to his falcon through their eyes. Her 4th seat needed to know and see everything. She whistled to call the falcon down to her. Since she wasn´t wearing any gloves the falcon landed on her left arm armor only to trip a little bit since the armor was too smooth to simply catch on.

"Zeke…let everyone know that there will be a meeting this evening. Everyone needs to come."

Haldis spread his wings and lost from her sight.
