The empty house was driving her crazy, the silence causing her thoughts to tumble too quickly. She needed to stay on course, stay concentrated, stay grounded. Suddenly, she thought of the perfect idea. What better way to ground herself than visiting home? She missed Mikey anyways and desperately wanted to hear more about his wedding plans. Mikey, of course, welcomed Scar back home for visit with open arms.

"Oh, you don't know how much I've missed you sweetie."

Mikey cooed as he hugged his daughter close.

"And your hair! You cut it, it looks fantastic!"

Scar hugged him tighter, feeling at home in her mom's embrace.

"Thanks Mom, I've missed you too, like so so much."

They went inside as Scar got him up to date on her grades, her classes, Rachel, leaving out the whole cheating part, and her turning.

"It's getting to be that often? And that quick?"

He asked in disbelief.

"Yeah, I've been trying to find something in Moonwood Mill but all I've found is some stupid tablet that tells me nothing about how to cure this."

"Keep looking, and I'll research anything to see if it helps you. I'm so sorry honey."

They had a homemade dinner made by Mikey and talked about his upcoming wedding plans. They had a date picked out and revealed it was going to be a destination wedding.

"Oh my god, it's going to be so beautiful Mom!"

Mikey nodded along excitedly,

"Yes and of course please feel free to bring Rachel, I'd love to finally meet her!

Scarlet's heart fluttered at the thought of Rachel attending with her.

"I know she would love to come, I'll tell her as soon as I get back."

Scarlet packed up her small luggage she brought with her for her visit home and began to head out. Before she made it out the door though, Mikey stopped her,

"Wait I have something to ask you before you go sweetie."

She turned around, setting down her bags and looking at him expectantly,

"I was wondering if you'd be the sim of honor at our wedding? There is no one else I'd want than my daughter."

Scar's eyes widened as tears welled up,

"Really?"

Mikey nodded, his eyes watering,

"Really."

"I'd love to Mom!!"

She exclaimed, hugging him tightly. What an honor, she thought. She'd play her role with dignity and make sure her Mom had the best wedding in the world.

Shortly after the party, her roommates called for a meeting and announced they were moving out due to Scarlet's toxicity. She was rendered speechless as they listed her bad behaviors and walked out, leaving her to have to find new roommates STAT.

"Dramatic..."

She scoffed. But in reality, were they really? Or was she just deflecting? Rachel called her the next morning, apologizing profusely and sending her a video of the concert she played in the night prior. She wasn't cheating. Why did she keep doing this? Why did she keep destroying her own relationship based on assumptions she made? The guilt made its return as Rachel asked her about the party. She only told her it was lame and she went to bed early. She didn't need to know. The next day, she got a haircut, went on a little shopping spree and decided she was going to have a new start. One filled with spending time on her relationship and studies. One where cheating wasn't even a thought. One where there was lots of communication. She could do it. She had to.

She crawled over to her mini-fridge where she kept her own personal stash of alcohol, and took a swig of straight vodka. And then another one. And another one. When she was finally drunk off her ass, she got dressed and went downstairs. Eyes glazed over and stumbling around, she set sights on one of her roommates. She didn't know how she didn't realize it before, but she was hot. Rachel was probably fucking her classmate so why couldn't she?

"God damn, look at you..."

Scarlet said, slurring her words. Her roommate, Polly, laughed nervously.

"What?"

"You look sexy in that top. You wanna go dance with me? And then maybe we can take it upstai-"

"What is WRONG with you Scarlet?!"

Scarlet stepped back, a bit surprised and confused. Polly was snarling at her, looking at her as if she just committed a crime.

"Jesus, if you're not interested that's fine but-"

"You have a GIRLFRIEND. Or did the alcohol make you forget?"

Shit. She needed to be more careful.

"You're right uh, this alcohol is just making me a bit...loopy."

Scar laughed nervously before backing away,

"Please don't tell her? You've sobered me up. Really! I just need to go to bed."

Polly crossed her arms, looking at her intently.

"Fine. Just this once."

Scar smiled awkwardly as she made her somewhere else. Anywhere else. That was too close.

She made her way to the back of the house and bumped into Alessia. The last time she spoke to her was at the bar where she was upset at her for flirting with Rachel.

"Alessia!"

She looked over at her and as Scarlet's eyes roamed down, she took in how the skirt hugged her beautiful curves.

"You look wonderful tonight..."

She picked up her soft hands and kissed them.

"I've missed you Alessia."

Her hands were quickly empty as Alessia snatched her hands away.

"Get the fuck off me Scarlet. We're not doing this again. Especially when Rachel is your girlfriend now. Where's your fucking decency?"

Scarlet backed up, angry and annoyed.

"You don't get to judge me!"

She yelled, her words getting more and more slurred.

"God you're embarrassing. Do yourself a favor before you humiliate yourself anymore and go to bed. You're a mess."

Alessia spat before walked away leaving Scarlet standing there, swaying. She hated herself. She couldn't get her girlfriend to love her, much less anyone else for just one night. She was drunk and alone and cursed.

"Fuck this."

She muttered. Eventually, she did what Alessia said, and went to bed.

It was nearing finals week and Scarlet wanted to throw a party before all the stress and studying came. The first person she invited was Rachel and she initially said yes. The night came and she flaked with the excuse of a concert she had to help out with. The alarm bells were ringing in Scarlet's head, she had made excuses all year. She had barely seen her the past few months. What if she lied about loving her? What if she said that to get Scar off her back? Was she like Maeve? Did Scar see it more seriously than her?

The party started but the absence of Rachel drove her crazy. She was about to get another drink when she felt her bones crack in her back.

"Shit, shit, shit..."

She ran into the laundry room to turn, hoping no one looked her way and that her groans were drowned out by the music bumping throughout the house. She had enough humanity left to run to her room upstairs and lock the door. She tore up her sheets, her desk, her bookshelf until she finally came down 20 minutes later. She cried in her hands, crumpled on the floor naked and panting. She hated it. She hated it all. She was a freak. No one would ever love her. Rachel obviously didn't. Maeve didn't. If the world found out, she wouldn't even have her passion either. Nothing. No one.

As soon as the debate finished, she had to run in the nearby woods to transform. It was all getting too much. Soon enough, it would threaten her future career, her public perception. No one could know her secret. Though she was exhausted from her classes and the long debate, she took the bus to Moonwood Mill once again, determined to find something, anything.

She arrived in the early evening, eyelids drooping from her exhaustion. She trekked closer to Greg's house than before even though her body was trembling from the fear, the day she got bitten replaying in her mind. She lengthened her claws, an ability she had acquired over time from her years of being the creature she was, and dug. Nothing. She had to get closer.

Metal signs sticking out of the ground depicting a rabid werewolf stopped Scarlet in her tracks. She remembered it from all those years ago. She had never been so close before. She felt a cold sweat form on her hands and forehead. She took a deep breath, and walked past them, eyes darting around to make sure she was truly alone. Crouching down, she dug in the grass near the house. She hit something stone, sending pain up into her hand.

"What the hell?"

She dug around it, clutching the thing in her hands as she tore it from the dirt. Blowing a layer of soil off the top, she saw what it was she had dug from the earth. A stone tablet depicting what she assumed was the earliest form of werewolf. She squinted her eyes, trying to see if there was any writing. Nothing. Still, it was something. A sign she was getting closer to what she needed. The sun was setting and she heard a howl in the distance, she had to get back to campus. She ran, taking the tablet with her, regarding the day as a small victory.

A week later, she was notified by the debate team president. She had made it in as the only sophomore. She ran around her room, quietly screaming to herself. This was only the beginning. She would show her strengths through the team and make her way to being president of the team itself. She had all the confidence and skill necessary. To prove herself, they scheduled a debate in the quad only 2 weeks later.

She fastened her tie before walking onto the podium facing her opponent, the debate team's vice president. She felt her heart race in excitement but managed to keep her poker face on. She met in the middle to shake his hand before stepping back onto the podium. The topic was the University's spending on sports team vs the arts, and why it was okay or not. She was speaking on behalf of the arts program not getting as much funding as the sports teams. She had done her research, she was prepared. She organized her papers on the stand and took a deep breath. When she looked up, she was no longer Scarlet, Britechester student. She was Scarlet, future president of the debate, future president of the country.

The debate lasted 2 hours and to everyone's surprise, Scarlet won, by a landslide. The crowd wasn't big but the students who did attend stood up, scattered applause bringing a big smile to Scarlet's face. She looked over to the vice president who seemed impressed.

Scarlet was on Cloud 9 since her and Rachel's confession to each other. She came over every day for a week after that as they did homework together, quizzed each other for upcoming tests, went on little dates to the quad, and of course, spent lots of time in bed together. But just like that, Scarlet didn't see her as much as Rachel got swallowed back into her music degree. She tried to plan dates and to see her, but everytime there was another excuse. The fear started to take over again. What could she possibly be doing every time she asked to hangout? Didn't she love her? If she loved her, wouldn't she make time for her?

Despite everything, she had to focus. Debate team was opening up applications and she needed to get in. It was imperative for her path to presidency to continue. The informational meeting was on the quad and as she sat down in the wooden foldout chair, she heard a familiar voice behind her.

"Scarlet! You interested in debate too?"

She turned around to see her roommate, the one that hit on her. The one that she was 2 seconds away from taking up to her room. With everything going on with Rachel, she felt the temptation rise again.

"Oh yeah, I love it. I'm assuming you too then?"

Her roommate, Georgia, nodded,

"Absolutely. I just hope to make it on the team! It's pretty rare for second years to make it."

Her eyebrows raised, she didn't know that. It only lit more of a fire under her ass.

"I'll make it."

She said confidently. Georgia smirked,

"Confidence looks sexy on you."

Scarlet tried to suppress her smile but it came out anyways.

"I've heard."

She kept it at that, turning around and focusing on the meeting that was about to start. She couldn't cheat on Rachel, not again. The meeting went well and she submitted her application.

Rachel kept to her word and knocked on her door 10 minutes later.

"What's wrong baby?"

"I just miss you. A lot I feel like I haven't really gotten quality time with you in a while."

Rachel looked down, her face giving away the guilt she felt. What did she feel guilty for?

"Here, let's talk outside."

She nodded as Rachel took her hand and led her out to a bench by the house.

"I'm really sorry for not making enough time for you. My classes have just been insane but I know yours are too. There's no excuse."

"It's okay, I'm not mad. I was just worried you were losing interest."

Rachel's eyes widened and she shook her head, grabbing her hand,

"No, no, no!! The opposite! Actually, I've been meaning to tell you something important."

Scarlet's stomach flipped...were her worst nightmares about to come true?

"I don't wanna scare you or anything but I wanna be honest..."

Scarlet sharply inhaled, terrified, her eyes wide.

"I love you."

"What?"

Scarlet's mind was reeling. This was not what she thought Rachel was going to say.

"I love you Scarlet."

Scarlet tried to find the words but were stumbling over them.

"I-I.."

Rachel weakly smiled,

"It's okay if you don't feel the same or-"

"I love you too!"

She blurted out. It was true. Hearing Rachel say it only confirmed it more. She loved her.

"I love you too Rachel."

She repeated with conviction. Tears welled up in her eyes as they hugged instantly. Once they pulled away, they lost themselves in the kiss, arms roaming and moans audible.

"Come back here..."

Scarlet whispered seductively, leading her to the back of the house and pinning her against the wall. Pulling her shirt up and off of her, she knelt down to her knees.

"Scar..."

Rachel breathed out before throwing her head back against the concrete wall. Deep down though, her fear only blossomed. She hadn't loved since Maeve. Could she love again?

Between keeping up her grades, managing her transformations, and getting drunk to ease the stress, she was burnt out. Not even Rachel could keep her calm. Every time she had to ditch dates for assignments with her "peers" or went to a party without her since she had to study, it gave her so much anxiety. The image of her cheating on her like Maeve did wouldn't leave her mind. As if the world was trying to tempt her one more time, her roommate made a pass at her before she went to class one day.

"Hey Scar, that shirt looks really good on you..."

Scar smiled a bit artificially as she made her way past her to the door. She was about to be late for class.

"Thanks."

"It really uh...frames your assets."

She whirled around,

"Excuse me?!"

She said in disbelief. Her face contorted into an angry expression but deep down, she wanted to lead her upstairs. She wanted to close the door behind them and forget about all the bullshit. Guilt panged throughout her. She couldn't. She stormed to class and afterwards called Rachel,

"Hey, can you come over?"

"Oh, I have a-"

"I need you."

"I'll be there in 10."

Scarlet spent the next few weekends bussing to and from Moonwood Mill, trying to find some sort of clue towards the cure. The only lead she found in the library was the legend of "Greg", a dark grey wolf who is said to have hunted the lands of Moonwood Mill. The description she read fit the exact werewolf who had attacked her all those years ago. In the book it was said the cure for the curse might've been written in Greg's diary. So, she unsheathed her claws and dug through the soil near the site of her attack but her fear prevented her from going too close. She could remember that day in agonizing clarity and preferred not to relive it. Though she tried her best, she couldn't find a thing, only enraging her further, causing her to turn more and more at school. The pain of turning so much was exhausting her to the point of sleeping through classes and drinking even more than she already was to cope. She needed the pain to end.

Though she couldn't see Rachel as much as the year previous since they weren't roommates anymore, they only got closer and closer. She could even feel herself almost slip out the "L" word more than once. Rachel was perfect...she was everything she needed. She was kind, supportive, accepting, open-minded, beautiful...so why was Scarlet so afraid that it wouldn't last? That was what had been tugging at her mind all year. Things with Rachel were too good to be true, she thought to herself. Nothing good lasts forever. Her suspicions heightened after they were supposed to have a date night and Rachel cancelled last minute, saying over a call,

"Ashley & I have to finish this composition for a piano piece before tomorrow morning babe, I'm really sorry, rain check?"

Ashley? Her classmate Ashley? They were writing songs together? She knew she was a music major but was it a love song? Had they been working on it in Rachel's bedroom? The opportunities for feelings to grow in that kind of situation were endless. Shit...Rachel probably knew didn't she? She knew and was using Ashley to get back at her. Scarlet plastered on a smile, trying to act chill and understanding, like a normal girlfriend,

"Yeah no problem, I'll-uh, I'll just see you tomorrow then for lunch?"

"Yes of course, thanks for understanding Scar. See you then! Miss you!"

"Miss you too..."

She said before she heard the beep signaling the call was over.

Scarlet paced in the living room when she got inside, trying to calm her thoughts of Rachel serenading Ashely like she did to her...or even worse. This was her fault, she thought. She cheated first and now Rachel was cheating. Her frenzy was interrupted by Courtney, her roommate, walking in,

"Woah woah, Scarlet, what's going on? You good?"

Scarlet cleared her throat, trying to act natural,

"Yeah, uh-for sure. Why wouldn't I be?"

She laughed awkwardly, trying to mask the anxiety that was quickly overtaking her. Courtney laughed knowingly, gesturing her to sit down next to her on the couch,

"Right, sure. Let's just breathe, okay? I don't know what's going on but you seem pretty freaked the fuck out. So just breathe with me."

Scarlet nodded, a bit taken aback by Courtney's kindness and perceptiveness. They both breathed together for a couple of minutes, Courtney insisting Scarlet close her eyes during to really center herself. When she opened her eyes, she found Courtney's staring back at her.

Without thinking, she leaned forward and kissed her. Rachel was probably doing the same thing surely. She felt Courtney freeze but quickly ease into the kiss as it got more heated. Their hands strayed from their laps onto each other's bodies and only pulled away at the sound of another roommate getting home. Courtney laughed, smirking at her,

"Holy shit Scarlet, what's gotten into you?"

The familiar guilt crept in upon realizing what she had done.

"Nothing, that won't happen again. Sorry."

She raced up to her bedroom, had a couple of beers on her own to drown out the thoughts and guilt, and passed out.

Very quickly into the new school year, Scarlet transformations started to happen more randomly and more frequently. She no longer could bank on being able to run behind a building or in an empty alleyway, she had started to turn in broad daylight near the quad. Luckily, no one had seen her...yet...to her knowledge. All she knew was she needed to find the cure and find it fast.

4 Months Later...

Scarlet finished her first year of college in a dorm room bathroom crying over her girlfriend cheating on her. She quickly found out the next morning that Rachel did NOT cheat on her, but was catching up with her cousin. Scarlet pretended she was fine and decided to not tell her what she had done while she believed she was being cheated on. Whenever she looked at her, or kissed her, or had sex with her, the guilt was overwhelming. She had cheated. She was the one who had done the betrayal. What had she done?

Summer vacation came along and she was grateful for some space while she learned to deal with the guilt that came along with what she had done. She couldn't help but wonder if Rachel knew, if she was secretly going behind her back to get back at her...she wouldn't right? She spent the summer feeling like an awful girlfriend and staring at Rachel's location she had shared with her before leaving for home.

Summer came and went quickly and Scarlet had moved in to her first college apartment on campus while Rachel stayed in the dorms. The guilt had slowly worn off over the summer and her feelings for Rachel had only gotten stronger.

"This year has got to be better."

She thought to herself as she plopped down on her bed.

Scarlet led Leila through the crowd of shoulder to shoulder, sweaty college kids. She made a bee line for the bathrooms all the while scanning the room for Rachel. She felt a pang of rejection in her chest when she couldn't see her. She scoffed as she pushed people out of the way to make it to the door and bursted through. She whipped around, kissing Leila and wanting to forget about what was most likely happening in another room. Without taking her lips off Scarlet, Leila picked her up to put her on the counter beside the sink, her hands roaming down her waist and going down her thighs. Scarlet let herself get lost in the moment with Leila, drowning herself in the pleasure. After they were finished, Leila quickly kissed her goodbye, leaving her in the bathroom alone with her feelings.

She sat on the floor with her head between her legs and cried.

Scarlet ran down the steps, wiping away tears of anger and betrayal while trying to keep her balance. She wouldn't wait for her girlfriend to be done cheating on her, who did Rachel think she was? The room was spinning as she got down to the front door. She was way too drunk. She ran out and stopped in her tracks when she saw the girl from the bar...Leila. She sniffled as she took her in,

"Leila...what are you doing here?"

Leila smirked,

"The better question is what are YOU doing out here alone, drunk and crying? From our first impression you seemed to be the life of the party."

Scarlet smiled, scoffing,

"Yeah well, not tonight."

Her mind wandered to what Rachel was doing upstairs. She should've known better than to trust anyone. All people did was cheat and lie and hurt and-

"So what happened?"

She asked, coming closer, trailing her finger down Scarlet's arm. Her skin raised with goosebumps at her touch,

"It doesn't matter."

She said quickly, before impulsively crashing her lips with hers.

To her surprise, Leila kissed back, her hands roaming down. This was the perfect distraction. If Rachel could have her fun, so would Scarlet. It was only fair. She pulled away, panting,

"Let's continue this inside."

Leila nodded,

"Lead the way."

The next night, Scarlet and Rachel took a taxi to Foxbury to attend Sydney's party. As soon as they entered, Sydney whisked them away to the alcohol, he knew her so well. She happily got her and Rach shots, downed two, and then got two cups of jungle juice. She could already feel the alcohol affecting her as she danced in the living room with Rachel and Sydney. She could feel the stress from her final grades melt away as she got more and more intoxicated, hands all over Rachel and sweat dripping down her forehead. Suddenly, a brown haired girl in a skintight pink dress came over and tapped Rachel on the shoulder. She tried to lean closer to hear what she had to say to her girlfriend but the music blaring drowned the girl's voice out. Rachel turned to her, mouthing,

"I'll be right back!"

She raised an eyebrow as she saw the girl drag Rachel away. Did they know each other? Had they had ever been involved with each other? Was she going to go cheat on her? Who was she? Where did she go to school? Her mind started to race and her insecurity started to rise. She left quickly to go get another drink and ended up in a random room with random people. Rachel left her alone after going off with some other girl. They must be doing something. She had to get out of there. She knew it was too good to be true.

After Scarlet calmed down, she went to find her girlfriend. She always knew what to say. She sat down on the couch with her after finding her in the main room,

"I got a B in HIS 102..."

She grumbled. Rachel looked to her, squeezing her hand,

"It's okay babe."

Scar shook her head,

"No, it's not. Presidents don't get B's, they get A's. ONLY A's."

Rachel smiled at her warmly, her eyes sparkling in the way only hers did.

"One B will not keep you from presidency. I can promise you that."

"How do you know?"

Scar asked, unable to keep the smile from her face from simply looking at Rachel.

"I just do. Okay? Trust me."

Rachel kissed her on the nose and Scarlet swore she could feel herself about to say the L word.

"No, no, no, I couldn't. It's too soon. It would ruin everything. I can't love someone this soon. I can't."

She thought to herself before pulling Rachel towards their room where they would end the night together.
