1,200-year-old lord's tomb laden with gold unearthed in Panama

Archaeologists in Panama have discovered a 1,200-year-old tomb belonging to pre-Hispanic royalty that also contains a sizable gold collection.

The tomb is located in El Caño, an archaeological park in the Coclé province of central Panama. It is the final resting place of an "important Coclé lord," according to a translated statement from Panama's Ministry of Culture.

The lord likely lived during the late 700s and would have been in his 30s when he died, according to an El Caño Foundation Facebook post.

The tomb contained an impressive amount of grave goods belonging to the unnamed royal, such as ceramic artifacts and gold pieces from a funerary trousseau — a collection of an individual's personal possessions. Read more.

padmé’s tatooine peasant disguise!

here are all the other ones i have done:

this outfit is a classic and so iconic. if is so different from any other of padmé’s costumes, which makes it stand out. even as a handmaiden, padmé matches the outfit of the queen, but this one doesn’t match anything. instead, it is reflective of tatooine dress, such as what anakin and others wear. it appears not to fit her, and seems to be scavenged from scraps on the ship.

the concept art by iain mccaig has more nods to naboo fashion, such as the diadem and the gold. although it is a beautiful design, the final product allowed for more of a disguise. the outfit is also the simplest out we ever see padmé in: no face of makeup, no overly complex hairstyle, no matching handmaidens.

the fabric of the majority of this outfit is homespun, which means it is a woven fabric with small irregularities and a looser weave. in fact, this is the only time in phantom menace that we see padmé in cooler tones.

the blue undershirt has a jeweled neckline and is made from a crinkled homespun fabric. if you look at her sleeves, you see a grey/tan strip of cloth wrapped around the lower forearm. this wrist binding is supposed to keep out sand and dust.

with the baggy vest and shirt, padmé’s layering is very reminiscent of early 90s and late 80s fashion trends. her belt is also high waisted, reminding me of the high waisted jeans popular at the same time.

over her shirt, padmé wears a heather (dark grey) vest. again, it is very baggy and doesn’t fit her right. but, it seems to be made from a thick, textured, homespun fabric and a scoop neckline.

in the late 90s and early 2000s, vests became popular and fashionable to wear. although some vests are tight (in movies such as clueless), there was also a trend of baggy vests, a trend that is coming back in the early 2020s.

padmé’s pants in this outfit are a dark grey/black made from a homespun matte fabric. they are very loose fitting, but the lower legs are wrapped in strips of the same matte fabric. all of the wrappings, both on the shirt and the pants, are part of the tatooine culture to keep dust out.

these pants are somewhat similar to harem pants, which were popular in the 80s. they were made popular by celebrities such as M.C. Hammer.

padmé’s hair in this outfit is one of the simpler hairdos in the prequels. it is reminiscent of the medieval era hair. the crown braid started in ancient rome, but it was very popular in medieval and byzantine times. growing hair long was a sign of status, but wearing hair down was forbidden. the crown braid was a solution.

i also have to mention that padmé’s hair in the outfit is very similar to leia’s hair in the ceremony at the end of a new hope. like mother like daughter.

finally, i want to mention how this is the outfit where anakin and padmé met. she wasn’t dressed as a queen, or exquisitely, or with anything more than scraps, yet anakin saw her as a angel. a heavenly figure, simply because she was beautiful, not because she was a queen. i just think it’s really the how anakin fell in love with padmé as a peasant and not as a queen.

Rewatching the Star Wars Movies Part 1!

and now I notice the little details seeing as I am older!

Damn I hope there do be no typos in this rant I spent so much time and energy on….

So:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….

I watched Star Wars the Phantom Menace again- one of my favourite movies of all time! And I realised that I could notice more details than usual and reflect on the meaning of particular scenes this time around!

- Padmé’s first ever entrance proves she is all business, is a fashionista and is a powerful woman who will not let any force of evil ruin innocent people’s lives

- I am so amazed that I am able to tell the difference between Sabé and Padmé now! I really want Keira Knightly to return as Padmé. Perhaps this is far-fetched- but in the Ahsoka series?!

- Otoh Gunga- the long shots of Obi and Qui swimming after Jar Jar towards the glowing Cory is gorgeous- but I wonder- how long did the city take to build? And how did they get all the resources down there? Why are the outside materials not rusting??!

- The way Obi-wan walks with his large robe sleeves makes him look so cute and tiny

- Ric Olié is such a dedicated, skilled pilot- I love how he is like Ani’s first mentor who teaches him the terms of the cockpit

- Obi-wan and his tendency to be like “picked up another pathetic life form” is 😂

- Ani being so respectful to his mumma is so cute. Shmi is so gentle- yet she will be forthright with her opinion and stubborn when she’s needs to protect Ani- she would have been an amazing grandma- and she would have shipped Anakin and Padmé so hard! I can just imagine the flustered, embarrassed 19 or 20-year-old Ani when they head to Tatooine after Anakin’s nightmares and Shmi is sharing embarrassing childhood stories about Anakin to Padmé. And the soft smile that would etch itself on her face when she walks in on Anakin and Padmé snuggled close to each other as they stay a night at the Skywalker-Lars homestead. Yes it just so happened that there were not enough beds so Anakin and Padmé had to share one- both were so nervous yet secretly thrilled to cuddle each other as they fell asleep 😴

- That conversation at the dinner table about how Anakin wants to finish a device to detect the slaving transmitters in the back of slaves’ necks makes me wish he and Padmé lived happily ever after on Naboo. They would go on fun adventures with their many children- Luke, Leia, Mila (after Milaflower), Jinn and another baby on the way, going to the snowy world of Hoth and swimming in the lakes of Naboo. When Anidala would want their hard-earned date week every 2 months or so, they would drop the kids off for 1 week with Sabé and the handmaiden gang (or Obi, Rex and Ahsoka?) so they could have a romantic vacation on Tatooine. But at the same time Anidala were investigating the slave situation and were being updated on the progress Sabé and Tonra had made by shipping freed slaves off world.

- The fluffy beard makes Ki-Ado seem like space Santa is swear

- I just noticed how upset and guilty Padmé appears when she suggests a vote of no confidence for poor, confused Valorum- she wants to immediately aid her struggling people but also feels wrong for ruining the career of confused Valorum

- Like frick off Palpatine he’s all smiling and like “I am going for Chancellor Yipee” and Padmé does not want to hear it! She realises there is more significant issues to worry about- *cough* and a *cough* “our people are dying in labour camps”! Ahah her feminist and stubbornness is shining through like a beacon!

- How soft Padmé’s features are and how gorgeous and intricately detailed her queen outfits are enhance her beauty yet symbolise how young she truly is

- Mace’s head shines so much at night time I swear

- I love how Qui-gon brushes off Obi’s negativity all the time and knows where how to focus his attention on the present and his passiona

- I actual burst out laughing when Ani was like ‘Qui-gon, Sir, I don’t wanna be a problem…”

- The elegant yet purposeful way the handmaidens stride onto the silver ship is so beautiful

- In the scene where Nute Gunray communicates with hologram Palpatine, I only just noticed the beautiful sculptures. These sculptures prove how much the Naboo people value art and express their creativity by surrounding themselves with decorations that have meaning

- Swampy Naboo giving Endor vibes damn

- I adore the bewilderment of Ani, Jar Jar and my Jedi boys when Padmé reveals herself as queen and everyone is like “what the the frick???”

- Maul’s staring into my soul! Ghost Padmé save me from the scary boy

- The strategic mind of Padmé is so inspiring- I love my intelligent gurl. She’s like- “ we make a diversion, we will use pilots to knock out the droid ship and we have Artoo’s strategic plan saved in his data bank—-”

- The fog and creepy bird noises as the Gungans march out onto the fields of Naboo builds some awesome suspense

- The droid army tanks moving sound like airplanes damn

- The handmaidens in battle action and being able to see their intricate hair buns is pretty sweet- I believe Eirtaé is the only blond handmaiden!

- Rest in peace that poor pilot who immediately crashed in the grassy Naboo fields

- ooh! I love how one of the Bravo pilots was a woman! Look at Naboo letting all genders be empowered, go my favourite planet!

- I love them oversized, glowing blueberries Jar Jar is still learning to throw

- Oh my Force! Sith are such dramatic turds I swear 😂 Darth Maul standing there menacingly, slowly lifting his eyes to death glare Obi and Qui-gon, alongside the music is killing me

- Maul flashing his teethies like a dog is hilarious 😆

- Maybe Jar Jar do be a sith… I mean, when his foot got tangled in the wiring of a battle droid and as he clumsily tried to escape the wire snaking around him- he managed to shoot many droids…

- Artoo is like man why the hell I gotta babysit this blond beach boy when I could be destroying the space station in like 2 minutes

- Qui-gon being stabbed brought me on the verge of tears. But I could not help but notice that, in the close up after he was stabbed so cruelly, his eyes sparkled a really deep blue- I never noticed he had sky blue eyes until then damn

-I love how prepared Padmé is with blasters resting in her secret throne compartment

- It was like a Star exploding seeing the Trade Federarion ship go BOOM

- The love in Qui-gon’s eyes as he strokes Obi’s cheek- I MISS HiM YOUR HONOUR

- SASSY PANAKA- “I think you can kiss your Trade franchise goodbye.” gIVes ME LiFE

- My favourite handmaiden outfit is the golden hooded robe after the end of the Invasion of Naboo

- Yoda is so scary when he frustrated DAMN! Agree with you the COUNCIL DOES NOT!!!

- In the funeral scene, I never noticed George Lucas’s little sneaky camera close up. After Mace exclaims- “but which was destroyed- the master or apprentice?” It zooms in on Palpatine’s face and fuzzes out everyone else- Foreshadowing is impeccabile here! Never noticed it when I was younger!

- Mwhaah- I noticed in a scene a few seconds before the movie ends that there was a handmaiden standing behind Obi in a beautiful, silverish, grey cloak. At first I was like- “hey that looks like Sabé!” I then had to skip back to the scene once the credits started rolling- and I took a picture of the face! I think I am right- the face seems to boast the features of Keira Knightly! Take a look for yourself:

the thing about the star wars prequels is that they are what made star wars *star wars*. yes, obviously, episode 4,5 and 6 is what started it all but nothing, nothing compares to the deeper lore that comes with the prequels. the fight scenes, the characters, everything. make all the jokes you want, but star wars is what it is today because of the prequels and you can’t really say much against that.

Naya Rivera in Live Shot (1995) 1x02 - "Another Day, Another Story"

Wanted to post this because for a long time, as I wrote about here, this was one of Naya's credits for which no video confirmation existed. Which is a shame because she gets a a couple of good scenes in this episode. Check it out, starting at about 22:55 into the episode!

What Tywin Lannister made of this is not recorded, but in 266 AC, at Casterly Rock, Lady Joanna gave birth to a pair of twins, a girl and a boy, "healthy and beautiful, with hair like beaten gold." This birth only exacerbated the tension between Aerys II Targaryen and his Hand. "I appear to have married the wrong woman," His Grace was reported to have said, when informed of the happy event. Nonetheless, he sent each child its weight in gold as a nameday gift and commanded Tywin to bring them to court when they were old enough to travel. "And bring their mother, too, for it has been too long since I gazed upon that fair face," he insisted. --TWOIAF

I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, but Aerys is clearly the father of Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion. Aerys' response to the birth of the twins doesn't make any sense unless they're his. There's no reason this birth should have deepened the strained relationship he had with Tywin. He already had a legitimate son who was healthy and the twins were only from "Tywin" and Joanna's first pregnancy, so it's not like they had a whole brood to be jealous of. What would make him upset is not being able to claim them (until he later claims Jaime with a white cloak) while Tywin can. But he sends them ridiculously lavish gifts anyway and demands to see them and Joanna.

The main reasoning people give to insist that the twins can't be Aerys' is that Joanna rarely came back to King's Landing after her wedding to Tywin and her dismissal from Rhaella's service following Aerys' treatment of her during the bedding ceremony. But if that excludes Aerys, then that would also exclude Tywin as the father since he isn't noted as leaving KL until his father dies. It could be suggested that maybe Tywin made occasional visits back to Casterly Rock, but so far there are no mentions of them. So unless Joanna came to KL on a rare visit, then neither man could be the father. From the info provided, it seems like Tywin and Aerys were always living in the same place until Tyrion’s birth and Joanna's death. Even when Tywin did return home after his father's death, Aerys and most of the court went with him. Rather than bringing them closer, the Casterly Rock visit made Tywin and Aerys' relationship deteriorate even more, for no specific reason. Yes, there's growing professional jealousy but that isn't cited as an issue during the Casterly Rock visit where Aerys/Joanna/Tywin and the twins are all together.

The Aerys/Tywin friendship officially ends when Joanna dies giving birth to Tyrion. But leading up to that, she comes to KL and an incident between her and Aerys results in Tywin trying to turn in his resignation as Hand. Publicly, the reason seems to be Aerys' jibe about Joanna's breasts, but I wonder if something more happened particularly since the visit seems to have resulted in her pregnancy with Tyrion.

All of this rambling is to say that I strongly believe that Aerys is the father of some or all three of the Lannister siblings. Not only does it explain the weird friendship with Tywin where he's openly lusting after his friend's wife, but it explains why Cersei and Joffrey are exactly like Aerys in personality and behavior. It also gives context to why Tywin was so certain that Aerys would approve of the match between Rhaegar and Cersei even though his friendship with the king was over. He had no reason to believe that Aerys would go for a marriage alliance with him at that point since he disagreed with everything else he suggested, unless they had a prior agreement.

My guess is that Tywin had erectile issues. This is why he wasted his marriage on his cousin from a weaker branch of the family rather than securing a marriage alliance with another powerful House as he tries to do with Cersei and Jaime. It would also explain why he never remarried after her death even though it would have been politically advantageous for him to do so. He could trust Joanna and believed he could trust his childhood friend to keep and help hide his secret. Joanna was rumored to be lovers with Aerys prior to her marriage and the over familiarity he treated her with afterward could suggest sour grapes on his part since, though he may have agreed to it, the children they have will be acknowledged as Tywin's instead of his. So what might have began as a rational plan between friends that would benefit all of them (especially if they intended to marry the royal and Lannister children to each other) turned ugly as it unfolded.

outing myself as an aerys-is-the-lannisters-true-dad truther. i love any variation of this theory, i think it parallels so many narrative paths in a truly agonizing/delicious way

aerys is tyrion's dad? the full abuse and horror of the intergenerational incest is manifested through tyrion, both in his physical deformities and in the way he’s ostracized by society and made into the 'monster' he's been labeled as since birth. tywin could never admit he was cucked by aerys due to his pride, but takes out his resentment on tyrion. tyrion being one of the last surviving targaryens and riding a dragon eventually, which was foreshadowed all the way back in the beginning of agot. i love

aerys is cersei and jaime's dad? the twins who appear almost otherwordly in their beauty, but who conceal the deep rot of house targaryen in their grotesque affair. even their mother can't bear looking at them. the fact that tyrion is tywin's only trueborn son only intensifies his hatred of him. tyrion being the only 'true' heir of house lannister, despite his supposed flaws which his father hated. i lovvve
