"Soap Opera Syndrome"

There was an experience from a younger age that caused me to develop a theory. I know it seems dated, but does anyone remember soap operas? It was daytime tv that was more-so programs for women. And let me tell you, man, drama over the top. You could get a years supply of drama in one episode. Over the years it has changed. Now it would be more like the "reality" shows many people watch now.

This theory in question? That people who love drama are trouble. The kind of people who thrive on that type of energy could have a tendency to ruin their life...and if you're friends with or have these type of people around they might very well try to meddle in you business and ruin yours too.

I've crossed paths a few times in my life with these kinds of people. And through experience it has proven itself to be true.

Over time it has also proven beneficial to avoid such people/friendships all together. One side effect is the energy drain. Maintaining the situation and dealing with the person is like being around an "energy vampire". The other is, when you're around them it's always some new problem. Being around them is always some new stress. There's more, but I won't drag on with it.

So what's the point?

Just a helpful word for anyone who has a lot going on. I have a lot of responsibility. Working at home, you know just normal chores, book keeping, life. Helping friends and family. Working on my career and "life time accomplishment" type projects. And the, "BIG ONE" being intertwined with my other work; God has called me to serve. So I've got a pretty full plate.

It also reminds me of a message that helps uncomplicate things. There were two sets of categories and I can't quite remember them all. But what I do remember is: There are people who will be for, what you are for, and against what you're against. You'll have similar interest and be "traveling" in a similar direction. Then there will be people who are for what you're for, but only if it benefits them. And they'll only be around for that. Then there will be people who are only around to "watch the show". These people don't or shouldn't have any bearing on your behavior or decision making. And finally there are people who will be against you, that is plain and simple, these are people you don't need to associate with.

So I've vowed not to invite people who revel in drama into my life. Not in business or personal, there's just no room. (I find it to be more apparent in "catty" women.) I have too much going on to be squabbling over made up, nonsense, garbage scenarios. It's a waste of time and energy. I really believe no one benefits from that.

So, I hope, if you may have these issues that it could help clear some things up. It's better to spend your time being constructive and living in God's purpose for your life. It's so much richer, so much sweeter...that's the path I choose.
