A sunny day, finally!! Not having visible sunlight in the mornings was bringing my mood down paired with the incoming winter air, so it was a nice change.
I have been making an effort to keep reaching for a book instead of my phone, and succeeding so far. Started An Abundance of Katherines, which I have read before, but online and it's been a few years already. It's so, so good; and John Green's books have always been able to pull those real, startled laughs out of me every time.
I know it's cliche, but I love his books sooooooo much. And it's not so much about the words or the writing style; but the stories, the way he uses humor, and how original and real his characters are. It's how I can picture the scenes, the emotions that hit deep and personal in the gut. I just love it. Love him. The world is beautiful and nothing's wrong.

day 1 of 7 || productivity challenge

📈 productive time: 1h30 (goal: 1h30) 🥤 water intake: 2.5L (goal: 2L)
honestly, not that great of a day, so I was really glad to have another challenge to try to motivate me!! my productive time was literally only my driving lesson, it was so hot out that my brain couldn't function.
nice things today: tried a new recipe and it was so good!! (tofu stir fry with noodles and veggies), started reading The Martian, went out with my sister to get ice cream and my driving lesson went surprisingly well :)) and look at the planner i got last week! it's lilac, it's making me so happy 🥰
(also, hope this challenge serves you as a reminder to stay hydrated!! especially if you are like and your country is hot af rn lol)
⭐ @keys-home is doing great! (5/4 hours, 2.5/3L water) ⭐ @jakeedu is doing great! (4/2 hours, 2/2L)

go on more walks. walk for no reason. walk to solve a problem. walk to blow off steam. walk to get outside. walk to listen, read, and learn. walk to escape distractions. walk to improve your health. walk to think. a simple walking habit can change absolutely everything.

Every time the semester ends we get these anonymous and voluntary questionnaires about the classes and professors from that past semester where they ask you about things like, was the professor respectful, was the material easy or difficult, what would you change about this class, etc. But this semester it's funny bc the system treats thesis lab like any other class, so there's a questionnaire for it too. And obviously it's anonymous. But I'm my thesis supervisor's only bachelor's student this semester. I should totally say, "absolutely THE bestest professor ever but he struggles with replying to emails" and when they tell him about this comment he got for the bachelor's thesis lab, he'll NEVER figure out who said that EVER right

You can be talking to someone and she'll be like, "Oh I made a silly mistake. Women don't deserve voting rights teehee." And you'll be like, "What." And she'll be like, "Oh I'm sorry! That must sound so bad out of context. No it's this Tiktok meme where, if you're a girl and you do something dumb, you say 'Women don't deserve voting rights teehee.'"
And you'll be like, "That sounds bad." And she'll be like, "No no. It's totally not that bad. It's just a meme. Men say it too. Like if a man does something silly he'll be like, 'I am like those women who do not deserve to vote.'" And you'll be like, "Does that make it better?" And she'll be like, "Well there was one guy who tried to make 'Men shouldn't vote' a popular meme. But it never caught on and also he got yelled at a lot."
And then you drop it there because like, you're harshing the vibe.

Bonfire again! This time with some chicken and pine nuts :)
I'm replacing reading on my phone with paper books again; so I bought some old ones, because it makes me feel more comfortable "ruining" them by taking notes and scribbling. I kind of love getting books that were clearly loved by someone, too; slightly yellowed pages and little notes taken by someone else.
I finished The Picture of Dorian Gray a few years ago, but re-read it now from the Oxford Bookworms collection (which is a shorter version; I bought it thinking it was the original but oh well). Finished in two days, and it made me remember how much I love, love reading. I used to binge-read series in under a week before, yk ... Gen Z's go-to phone addiction. I don't have that much time anymore, but I hope I can make reading paper books a habit again from now on.

don’t let this world’s obsession with youth rob you of the big and small joys of adulthood. i spent most of my teenage years and early twenties struggling with my mental health. but there’s no timeline for happiness. for many people, getting older and growing up means having more chances to redefine their values, find their path and stability in life. some people go to college in their forties. some people marry in their sixties. some people recover better after their thirties. there’s no timeline for this kind of stuff. your childhood and teenage years won’t be the only chance you have at experiencing freedom and joy.
