…Now, it happens that we meet together once every year, sometime about the 4th of July, for some reason or other. These 4th of July gatherings I suppose have their uses. If you will indulge me, I will state what I suppose to be some of them. "We are now a mighty nation, we are thirty—or about thirty millions of people, and we own and inhabit about one-fifteenth part of the dry land of the whole earth. We run our memory back over the pages of history for about eighty-two years and we discover that we were then a very small people in point of numbers, vastly inferior to what we are now, with a vastly less extent of country,—with vastly less of everything we deem desirable among men,—we look upon the change as exceedingly advantageous to us and to our posterity, and we fix upon something that happened away back, as in some way or other being connected with this rise of prosperity. We find a race of men living in that day whom we claim as our fathers and grandfathers; they were iron men, they fought for the principle that they were contending for; and we understood that by what they then did it has followed that the degree of prosperity that we now enjoy has come to us. We hold this annual celebration to remind ourselves of all the good done in this process of time of how it was done and who did it, and how we are historically connected with it; and we go from these meetings in better humor with ourselves—we feel more attached the one to the other, and more firmly bound to the country we inhabit. In every way we are better men in the age, and race, and country in which we live for these celebrations. But after we have done all this we have not yet reached the whole. There is something else connected with it. We have besides these men—descended by blood from our ancestors—among us perhaps half our people who are not descendants at all of these men, they are men who have come from Europe—German, Irish, French and Scandinavian—men that have come from Europe themselves, or whose ancestors have come hither and settled here, finding themselves our equals in all things. If they look back through this history to trace their connection with those days by blood, they find they have none, they cannot carry themselves back into that glorious epoch and make themselves feel that they are part of us, but when they look through that old Declaration of Independence they find that those old men say that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal," and then they feel that that moral sentiment taught in that day evidences their relation to those men, that it is the father of all moral principle in them, and that they have a right to claim it as though they were blood of the blood, and flesh of the flesh of the men who wrote that Declaration, (loud and long continued applause) and so they are. That is the electric cord in that Declaration that links the hearts of patriotic and liberty-loving men together, that will link those patriotic hearts as long as the love of freedom exists in the minds of men throughout the world.
From "Electric Cord" Speech (1858), in Lincoln, The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, Vol. II, ed. Roy P. Basler (New Brunswick, NJ: Rutgers University Press, 1953), 499-500.

The founding principles and ideas of this country are important and even at points where we would disagree we can pass their ideas through the crucible to purify them of the bad and take the good. I think disregarding the wisdom of the past is wrong because it’s a place where we can safely see what works and what doesn’t and what’s good and what isn’t. For a country like America at least attacking the principles this country was founded on is an attack on what we all want and what binds us all together. Jefferson said something about this I think is pertinent. “I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne with; because, when once known, we accommodate ourselves to them, and find practical means of correcting their ill effects. But I know also, that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors. It is this preposterous idea which has lately deluged Europe in blood. Their monarchs, instead of wisely yielding to the gradual change of circumstances, of favoring progressive accommodation to progressive improvement, have clung to old abuses, entrenched themselves behind steady habits, and obliged their subjects to seek through blood and violence rash and ruinous innovations, which, had they been referred to the peaceful deliberations and collected wisdom of the nation, would have been put into acceptable and salutary forms. Let us follow no such examples, nor weakly believe that one generation is not as capable as another of taking care of itself, and of ordering its own affairs.”
I don’t care what the Founding Fathers would have wanted, I don’t care if Jesus was a hippie or not, I don’t care what Marx prescribed. I can’t take living in a world where we’re all servants of long-dead men. You know what happens if you make a law the Founding Fathers wouldn’t like? Nothing, they’re dead and they’re never coming back. I’m genuinely envious of countries that can just make whatever laws they want without worrying about how 18th century agrarian noblemen would have seen it. Stop arguing that Jesus loved the poor too, what he loved or didn’t love is irrelevant, he doesn’t get a say in any of this. We could have a country that isn’t shackled to these ghosts if we collectively wanted to.

Many people claim that the Syrian Government has not been using chemical weapons against its own people while others say the UN and US are complicit in staged false-flag attacks. The real evidence on the ground - once investigated - does not show this to be true at all, at least not of all of them. The truth is multiple different incidents of chemical attacks by Assad's government have occurred but not all are equal. The evidence is quite staggering once you really dig into it for the individual chemical attacks. In this case in particular the evidence is solid that not only did the Syrian government use chemical weapons on its own people but has the capability to do so. Not just that, but the Russians have been actively working with the Syrian government to cover up these incidents. This is obvious not just by their changing stories but how Russia when confronted with overwhelming evidence digs its heels in and claims nothing happened. Do your own research as well.

How Mowing Your Lawn will Save American Civilization
A little neglect may breed mischief ...
for want of a nail, the shoe was lost;
for want of a shoe the horse was lost;
and for want of a horse the rider was lost.
—Benjamin Franklin
Poor Richard's Almanac, preface (1758)
Tumblr media
American habits our forefathers practiced are often the subject of ridicule today. The image of the American father has changed in modern perception; he is now fat, bumbling, politically backward, balding, an alcoholic who's chief indulgence is piss beer. The image of such a man in shorts drinking a Monster Zero riding his lawnmower at the crack of dawn is now a literal meme across the internet.
Tumblr media
Make no mistake; such critical viewpoints are another symptom of the self-flagellating masochism which has gripped the American people for nearly a century. Optimism and zeal gave way in the modern discourse to malcontent and apathy after the first nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan. From our newfound place of unquestionable superiority Americans began to ask new questions from the safety of supremacy so far removed from the struggle that put them there: have we gone too far? Have we traveled across the last frontier and made it from sea to shining sea in the name of an Empire of Liberty only to have lost ourselves along the way? Can a nation such as ours even exist - does it deserve to exist?
Self-criticism is indeed a virtue and it has been practiced in the American people since household names like Paul Revere and Patrick Henry questioned the merit of the Constitution we now know as our founding document. Later it manifested when people like Henry David Thoreau refused to pay taxes which he knew would go to support the Mexican-American War which he - wrongly - felt was an unjustified act of imperialist aggression.
It’s important to be able to have something to measure yourself against whether it be a moral standard or a friend who is the whetstone that keeps your mind sharp. But what we see now is quite different. We are not seeing critics of American policy and culture coming from a place of love and admiration but rather malice. These critics do not want to see America do better because we can be better but rather they want the Republic to fail and be replaced with something more to their liking, damn the rest of the American people.
Let’s ask ourselves not just what today’s criticisms of American habits are but where they come from. Isn’t there a difference between a friend at the bar telling you that you’ve had a bit too much to drink and an adversary among your peers who considers the mere presence of a bottle of whiskey in your home as a sign of crippling dependency?
Who really is benefiting from the collapse of American self-confidence? It’s not you or me, it’s not our allies, it’s not the free world, nor our communities, municipalities, states, and greater democracy. What Americans need now is to reclaim themselves and their virtues and not abandon them wholesale.
The unique and truly powerful aspect of America’s democracy is that its maintenance falls to all citizens and not a political class. The already quoted Benjamin Franklin was an advocate of the necessity of an educated class of voters who were politically and civically active. The goals of such virtue can be found all over the many institutions of America he helped establish like fire departments and public libraries. It does not fall to the government alone or the elite to maintain society but the active efforts of us all. Civic virtue is the heart and soul of a voluntary society.
Tumblr media
Now that I’ve impressed all this upon you the inevitable question must be arising: what does this have to do with lawn care?
Have you ever remarked on the true difference between a cultured and uncultured lawn? Many people consider the mere act of attempting to tame the wilderness on their property a Sisyphean one to be delegated to others if it is to be done at all. But allow me to describe to you the consequences of not tending one’s lawn particularly if you are like me and live in the wilderness where nature is not far away.
In tall grass parasites and other harmful insects come to reside. Ants inevitably make their homes in the soil with the other smaller creatures nearby being a natural source of food with the tall grass providing excellent protection for their mounds. Mice, opossums, armadillos, squirrels, badgers and other small mammals will also find solitude and resources within the fields. Then come snakes looking for meals and like the ants shelter in the soil beneath the tall grass. Soon coyotes and wolves will come looking for food as well with the overgrown ground being perfect hunting ground. Trees and other thick foliage can grow making traversing the ground and assessing it difficult. Nevermind the hazard and untended tree can pose to people or their property. Not all the plants will be benign either; thorns, poison ivy, thistles and other harmful nuisances will emerge. The more wild the acre the more wildlife will come to call it home. Soon enough you’re living in the middle of a small forest that is anything but suited to your comfortable living or the pleasure of your guests and neighbors. A hole or two could appear in the ground as well and you’d never be the wiser or perhaps a bog.
It is clear now to the astute reader what merit my quote has at the beginning of this essay. A simple weekly ritual taking only a few hours of your day might prevent all of these calamities. Though many of us would rather others do it or simply not do it at all I believe it is an edifying exercise of body and mind. A well-groomed property has many possibilities. New spaces for recreation and projects, habitation for animals that might prove beneficial for food, work, or as companions. Trees, plants and crops which while not enough to take to market might prove a healthy snack while out and about or simply a conversation piece and another reason your friends and neighbors love to visit because it means succulent pears or juicy persimmons.
This is not a simple statement of my love for landscaping or a suggestion you take up the hobby; it is an allegory for how our own virtue in daily life can and will improve our democracy. Too often we shove off our duties as citizens on government functionaries and when we do this we exchange a piece of our freedom for security and hope it doesn’t backfire or such powers do not come into the hands of villains and despots.
It is easy to mock older people and past generations for their seemingly provincial passions and lifestyles. But when we do so we lose something valuable as when we discard a culture or people because we view them as savage and uncouth. I’m not suggesting we should wholesale revive the past with all its ill trappings but consider that perhaps there is something to the more grounded practices of our parents and grandparents and beyond. Think about all the things they know/knew how to do but you’re clueless on. How does that negatively impact you? How does it negatively impact your community? Let’s not get bogged down in archaic reaction and get locked into the idea of turning back the lock; that’s not what this is about. It’s about sifting through the living examples of our ancestors and harvesting gold from mud. It goes beyond simple lawncare. America is not a nation of blood and soil but almost a religion maintained by our beliefs and the practice of those beliefs. That the best person to govern a community is its constituents. How can we maintain such a free society without a morally astute, self-reliant people? We cannot. Our goal should be to mold ourselves into such people. A man who can take care of himself is a free man. Together with the product of our own labor in hand we can contribute to the common weal overall. This is the frontier mindset. The free man’s mindset. We do not sit idly by and let our world pass us by; we ride the tiger, we tame the bucking bronco.
Tumblr media
Now the full breadth and scope of this practical analogy is revealed to you. We must reclaim the American spirit of independence and self-reliance to maintain a voluntary and democratic society. Put down the comic book and grab a newspaper. Seek out real edifying literature that informs you about the doctrines and theories of our government and practical books that can make you more handy. Go less to the auto shop and pick up a Hayne’s manual and some tools. Learn some simple homespun recipes and stop eating out whenever hunger calls. Pay more attention to your local government and find ways you can make your voice heard and exert your will in the ballot box. This is the truest way to a free society: one where we are less dependent and more independent. One where we have the power and tools to more readily help and advise our neighbors and we have the skills and resources to collaborate. It makes our modern society with all its hard-won excess and bounty a boon and not a dependence to survive.
It’s warming up outside; the sun is out more and a cold breeze is always at your back. So why not roll up your sleeves and do your part to make your community that much greener and yourself that much more free?

NEWER DISCLAIMER: While working on my blog about lawn-mowing I discovered this old thing. I was pretty proud of it at the time and thought it gone for good. I decided to go ahead and post it with a few edits to replace my older more problematic and ignorant viewpoints with ones that more closely reflect reality and my now more liberal viewpoints. DISCLAIMER: I wrote this for a Facebook group I was talking to people in who were predominantly National Socialists. The kind who think Hitler did nothing wrong. So if my words seem directed at such a kind of people, don't think I'm talking to you the reader specifically. It's intended as a story to illustrate the flaws in their position and how the whole "We Must Suppress X Minority Group Based on Race and Conspiracy Theories!" is a self-fulfilling prophecy which perpetuates an endless cycle of instability. I was writing this on a Friday night and had plans to go out. As it got time for me to leave, I saved the document and left. But I came back to find I'd been banned from the group. I didn't want all that work to go to waste however. So, here it is.
I'm going to tell you all a little story. I'll come back later to see what you all have to say to it. But I have more important things to do tonight. But for now I'm going to leave you all with a parable to consider. If you want to become more well-read on the subject you are all welcome to do so.
The Parable of Visigothic Spain.
In the region we now know as Spain, Jews and Christians lived side by side without any qualms under the Roman Empire. There were absolutely zero instances of ethnic or religious-based violence between the two groups.
Then the Visigoths showed up.
Like most Barbarian groups they were leaving Northern Europe as a mini Ice Age gripped those regions, rendering harvests and food supplies nonexistent. The Visigoths eventually settled in the regions now known as Spain and Southern France.
Eventually the Visigoths in Spain adopted Christianity, even though it was Arianism. Their formal entrance into the Catholic Religion would not come until much later.
Even after their formal merge with Rome, the Iberian Church had a very basic knowledge of Christianity. Mostly derived from oral tradition and the Bible.
In the Bible, it's pretty clearly laid out after the Gospels in the New Testament that the first persecutors of Christianity were the Jews. In spite of this, however, very little in the way of what we might recognize as "Antisemitism" appears in the Biblical texts. In Rome at this time, documents like "Sicut Judicaeris" outlined civil rights for Jews. Saint Augustine said Jews were to be valued, not exterminated, as an important part of Christian history and a valuable asset for the preservation of the Old Testament, its history, and an understanding of it.
But the Visigoths themselves were very cut off from Rome and just emerging from Barbarism. As such, Tribalism governed much of their policy. "Us vs. Them," if you will. So even though they found themselves rulers of a multiethnic and multicultural area of the world, they continued their policies largely as though they were governing only Visigoths.
Couple this with their primitive understanding of Christianity, and we have one of the first appearances of Antisemitism in a Catholic government.
Without explanation, context, or reason Visigothic synods and kings were passing laws to suppress Jews. But apparently even though they had never been before, the Jews were a threat to civil order as a whole and had to be suppressed, oppressed, and controlled.
Flash forward a few hundred years to the Moorish Invasion of Iberia; no one knows precisely why the Moors invaded. Various theories are tossed about, from Eastern versus Western understandings of Feudal sovereignty to an over-sized colonization force to a simple series of raids that got bogged down and accidentally built a civilization. One theory rapidly gaining ground is that the Moors were invited by a deposed Castilan king. However a lack of written record from the time period concerning the motivations and plots of the parties involved in the invasion leaves room of speculation. Most Iberian Catholics simply saw it as an invasion to conquer and destroy their Christian civilization.
At this specific instance in history, the Catholics in the region were oppressive toward Jews and the Caliphate of the Moors from North Africa was somewhat tolerant for the moment. Both these factors had little to do with religion and more to do with the present leadership; any student of Islam can say the religion doesn’t have a track record for treating Jews that is dissimilar from Catholicism.
The result is that the Jews welcomed the Moors. They helped them in their conquests. For no other reason than they wanted more freedom than what the Catholics offered.
So it was for most of the period we all know as the Reconquista. The Jews helped the Moors; there were exceptions I feel I should note. Many Catholic rulers, knowing the Faith better and seeing how the Caliphate was turning against Jews (the "Sephardic Golden Age" didn't last very long) became more lenient towards them and treated them much the same as they did Muslims who did not oppose them. They did what was best for their realms and their people; ideology was secondary to that. The only overarching thing that - mostly - guided Catholic rulers was Catholicism.
So let's fast forward to the Post-Reconquista. The Moors have been pushed out, but many Muslims and Jews remain in the southern regions of Spain. But not just Muslims and Jews; Muslims and Jews with a real stake in the Caliphate. Money is involved now.
But there's something else at play; most of those who fought in the Reconquista don't know much about the Visigothic Period. Their only experience with Jews is with them as traitors and friends of their oppressors. They don't know much about the Who's and Why's of the Visigoth Antisemitic Laws, because there's little to no way for them to know. Even then, that doesn't matter; it doesn't reflect the present reality.
So the Spaniards see the Jews as traitors and a subversive element; they don't know anything else. The Jews don't particularly care at this point about reconciliation; they have a larger stake in helping the Moors at this point. The unified Spain is a young entity; can it truly survive? Already Jewish forces were establishing contacts with the Moors. If another invasion was tried, they would certainly help. Figures in local government were still Jewish and/or Muslim.
So the Expulsion of the Moriscoes takes place, and the rest is history.
But what's the point of this story?
I'm going to make a bet that most people on /pol/ are in favor of the "Final Solution" to the "Jewish Question." That most of you don't like Jews just on principle.
My question is: why? Because of some unfounded theories and suppositions? For all you know, that Jew you know who is your neighbor has no problem with you. Or he wouldn't if you didn't hang a fucking Swastika in your window. He doesn't want your rights subverted anymore than you do.
He probably doesn't feel any special connection with his Jewish history beyond the superficial.
But I'll bet that if you and a bunch of "Daily Stormer" reading-buddies got together, starting cosplaying as Nazis, and having your own Kristalnacht in your neighborhood, very quickly those who find themselves targeted by you would unify against you.
Because human nature is funny like that, with how it reacts to adversity and oppression. When you attack a large group of people as a whole, they unite.
If a whole bunch of Black Panthers went on the warpath where you live looking to kill Whitey, I'll bet you and all your buddies would rally really quickly. I bet lots of White People would join you or hide behind you if only for their own survival.
This is how human nature works and why racial prejudice is self-defeating. It is always a self-fulfilling prophecy. One race persecute another, it resists, and the oppressor shouts, "SEE!? They were against us all along!"
Except any other ethnicity would do -the exact same thing-.
I've heard South Africa is a pretty bad place to live for a White Man now. I'll admit, I don't know much about the whole affair. But let's say it is.
Let's suppose the Whites in South Africa are in a position identical to the Jews in Visigothic Spain. For added sting, let's assume South Africans are predominantly Muslim and the Whites are Christian.
Now let's assume a foreign Christian power invaded South Africa for whatever reason. Let's assume they didn't successfully conquer all of it.
Every White Supremacist would cheer and support every act of terrorism, every bit of mob action, every racist scree, every act and word written to undermine the native Black South African government. Let's assume Black South Africans win the war and reunify the country under a Black Muslim government. In spite of the fact the Whites were openly seditious, you would decry any attempt by the government to control a clearly traitorous group. Because they're White, so you have to help them, and that's all that matters.
This is why Racial Supremacy is a farce. This is why canards spread about Jewish supremacy are self-fulfilling prophecies. It's barbaric tribalism that is doomed to keep the world and all its States ever-shrinking and ever-unstable and ever-warring.
We have to better than that. We must.

Hot take but I don't like the Thin Blue Line flag personally. I get what it's supposed to represent but even then I have issues. Cops should be civil servants with guns, not a militant force keeping us under control with fear and intimidation. Making our communities safe should fall on all of this. The 2nd Amendment has many applications.
But the other reason I don't like it is because it's a violation of flag code and disrespectful to reproduce unauthorized versions of the American flag. I don't even like that people use it on clothes or for advertising. But people can spend their money how they want and I get most people don't get use it for anything but to show their support for law enforcement or to flex about what a patriot they are. They can do that if they want, but that's my two cents.

Imagine how much more effective welfare programs would be if we passed laws that made it illegal for the employed to apply for them.
Imagine how much this would force employers to pay better wages and give out benefits to employees to retain them.
Now put an absolute moratorium on immigration for the next 50 years and give tax breaks to the employed with kids. Audit corporations to ensure raises come from profit and not overhead, thus making the "need" to raise prices obsolete.
Reform primary education so its primary goal is creating an informed, patriotic, politically active citizen ready and prepared to find a job in the local market with the obvious option remaining to seek higher education if they so choose.
Oh yeah, no more federal guarantee for student loans. No more subsidies or grants for higher education. Watch them trim the fat and how affordable it will become for people to get a college degree. Hell, watch how many people suddenly don't need one to make it in the working world.
You're welcome.

Why am I not surprised the generation overwhelmingly against having kids or making them except as some kinda fucked-up statement about their own sexual value also sees no problem with not prioritizing Americans for jobs and the benefits of a free society and instead is willing to prostitute our country to the world?
