My first 3 packs of Oath of the Gatewatch.

Pre-release advice

First of all, I hope everyone has a great time tonight!

Basic guidelines

1) 17 lands (adjust based on curve but this is the golden standard)

2) 16-18 creatures

3) 5-7 non-creature spells

4) Keep a good curve (very important)

5) Removal is extremely important

6) Don’t force a color combo just because you want to (i.e. Don’t force UB if the cards can’t support it)

A good curve will usually be something like:

1 CMC - 0-4 cards (aggro decks should ideally have some)

2 CMC - 3-6 cards

3 CMC - 3-6 cards

4 CMC - 2-5 cards

5 CMC - 2-3 cards

6+ CMC - 1-2 cards

Other important advice:

Take a nap if you can beforehand - I’ve won plenty because the other person was half asleep.

Bring a drink and a snack - I personally swear by a monster and a metrx bar. I don’t like getting candy because it’s messy and you can crash and chips get your hands greasy and lots of people don’t play with sleeves. I find I can eat the metrx bar from the wrapper and stay clean.

Have fun! - it’s a prerelease. You can be competitive but remember this isn’t a GP or something. Be forgiving of mistakes especially from younger or newer players.

Be an ambassador! - Magic is great and we all love it. Try to make someone else love it too

What would Zendikar be without some doubling on your mana? Whether it be white, blue, black, red, green, of colorless, now you can double it all up (EVEN MORE!!!) for EDH/Commander. 

Oh, and the draw a card bit is great in green. Green can always use some more draw for doing what it does best.

Magic: the Gathering - OGW Previews 1•07•2016

Matter Reshaper - Mothersite Preview. We would have loved this if they had just had it look at the top three cards of your library - that would have been a rare.  This one just kinda sucks unless you had a way to manipulate the top card of your library, perhaps with a scry ability.

Zendikar Resurgent - Mothersite Preview.  This thing is coming down waaay to late for standard constructed to make any difference but we would most definitely consider this in a Commander list.  Appreciate that this also taps for ◊.

Reaver Drone - Mana Deprived Preview.  A 2/1 Eldrazi Drone for just one B ain’t bad - just make sure you have a strong colourless theme in your list so you don’t get dinged that one life each turn.

Expedite - Wizards Twitter Preview. LOVE THIS.  Excellent instant for one R giving your critter haste until turn’s end AND giving you a card draw.  This card image accidentally reversed - sorry - will fix later.
