arthur is such a tragic character and at the same time the most optimistic fiction podcast protagonist i've ever known. and i think those two things correlate. because his specific brand of tragedy has left him with absolutely nothing except hope to hold on to. his will is the only thing he hasn't lost, and that in itself is also a tragedy. he cannot give up, not even when going forward will only hurt him more. there is mercy in death, there is peace in giving up. there's no mercy in putting one foot in front of the other, bracing yourself and moving forward, again and again and again, not to get somewhere safe enough to rest, but just because you cannot stay still. there is no peace in moving forward when you know the world is not done punishing you. the only reason you'd ever keep going is if you believed you deserved it, and believed that by putting yourself through this hell you will eventually have earned your peace.

I'm slightly insane about how in Intermezzo, Kayne basically set John up for the bait. He made a lot of comments about John's mistakes, lies, how he fell back into his old ways and basically became like the King in Yellow again. That he didn't want Arthur to know that, because he knows if Arthur knew, he'd lose him.

He cares about Arthur so much. All that time in the dark world, all the time being stuck and reverting back to old habit, *but he still remembered Arthur and wanted to go back to him*.

And John sees how Arthur is treating him because of his memory, he sees how Arthur is relating to other people, and their snappiness and impatience with each other, and then Kayne gives him the choice to get rid of Arthur's memory.

Saying YES. Because he doesn't want to lose Arthur's relationship and wants it to be good.

God they are both such messes. Arthur has made so many fuck ups and mistakes, and so has John, and their friendship makes me very unwell.

i adore tmagp giving us a more varied way of telling the statements than tma, because while i loved it, the written down and narrated format hardly ever did anything to scare me. the clips of audio of actual coversation in tmagp though? they have a far bigger effect on me. it's also just really fun to see the format be played around with, keeping true to the magpod structure but expanding on how exactly it can be formated

One (of many) things that will always make me insane about tlfop is the way that Thaniel and Takiko respect each other from like their very first meeting, bc you KNOW Kuroda told her all about what he learned and the fact that her husband was cheating on her and all this thinking she’d care, and kind of forces her to form this image in her head of like a normal side piece for a rich ass dude. So that’s what she goes in expecting, which is why she starts off talking about how she’s the Baroness and how they’re married, and she watches as he realises what exactly is going on, and just how much he fuckin crumbles under the weight of all that, but then she sees what she never expected; he looks at his daughter, looks at her, reaches out a hand, and greets her with the respect she is deserving of. He didn’t fuss, he didn’t get upset, he just took all of the shit in stride and kept going for the sake of his remaining family, and that’s something she very ardently respects. And he respects her off the bat too!!! He knows she had absolutely no hand in the fact that he was lied to, and he understands any jealousy he has towards her is not fair and does his best to guide his actions around those feelings instead of giving in to them, and he forms a genuine respect for her and can’t help but enjoy her company!!! Like!!! Are you kidding!!!
