What is this object?
Beats from New orleans
When is it from? When was it most relevant in your life?
New Orleans First Springbreak in my life;p I caught those on the Easter or Pride Parade- we went to both...it was weird combination
Does it need to be physical? Why?
I think I would like them to be physical - those are beats, they are very generic so the fact that they traveled with me I catch them and they were physically there, is very important for me.
How does it make you feel?
Happy, that was a great trip!
Which sort of replica might be a satisfactory replacement for this object?
a story
No replica could be a satisfactory replacement
Describe your interaction with the object
I had more of those but everyone left those in the airbnb, so I felt weird talking them but I couldn't resist so I hide one in the box that I got from girls with macaroni and took it home.
Who does it remind you of?
People I was in NOLA with - Kate, Julia, Court, Atulya, and Tim.
How far have you gone to protect this object?
Haha, I hide it to take it and then I put it in the box, so it probably mean far, but in the same time I know it's not precious.

Little Elephant / Kasia M.

Kasia Matlak
E-mail
What is this object?
It is a little elephant that I carry in my wallet.
When is it from? When was it most relevant in your life?
I got it once in the so called India stores in my hometown. It wasn't relevant in my life at all since I haven't given that to my sister when she was leaving for a month in Florence (it was the first time so long apart), and then after probably 9 years she gave it back to me when I was leaving for grad school in the US.
Describe your interaction with the object
For a long time it was my sister who carried it in her wallet, but since she gave it to me, I do the same it is in my wallet in the coin section. I don't interact with in very often but I like to know that it is there.
How does it make you feel?
It makes me think about my sister- sentimental and warm.
Who does it remind you of?
My sister
How far have you gone to protect this object?
I have decided not to get only the card holder when I was changing the wallet- but the one with the coin pocket- also now I don't even carry coins there it is mostly for the elephant.
Does it need to be physical? Why?
I like to touch it, but maybe if one day I will pass it again to my sister - it would be nice to have a reminiscent of the of some sort.

Jade Turtle / A. Mayo

Name
Alyssa Mayo
E-mail
What is this object?
cement replica of grandpa's jade turtle
When is it from? When was it most relevant in your life?
This one I made, but the original jade turtle is something I took from my grandfather's house after he died. It's not something he necessarily cherished, but it reminds me of him and is important to me for that reason.
Does it need to be physical? Why?
I think so. Otherwise how would I come across these memories and feelings?
How does it make you feel?
it makes me feel connected. A little sad too because my grandfather has been gone for so long and because he was such a great person who I would love to be able to hang out with now. It makes me smile because it reminds me of all of the crazy things he collected. It makes me feel proud because he was such an interesting person and traveled extensively even into old age.
Which sort of replica might be a satisfactory replacement for this object?
a story
a photograph
Describe your interaction with the object
For the past several years of my life I interact with it only on occasion. I keep it in a padded cardboard box to protect it from damage and I move so often so that I haven't figured out how to display it in a safe way.
Who does it remind you of?
My grandfather, my father, my estranged aunt who inherited the house.
How far have you gone to protect this object?
so far as to give it a home in an old replacement cell phone padded shipping box. When I first graduated and moved to NYC it immediately suffered the loss of a toe when we were moving in. Since then I haven't felt confident displaying it, but it follows me from apartment to apartment in its special box.

A seashell, of the king variety

Does it need to be physical? Why?
Hmm I like the tactical part of it that triggers my memory what it's also the look of it that triggers. So it's more about the senses rather than the real object

It makes me feel more connected to my family. It reminds me of why my family is so important. For the reason that when I'm with them I feel strong and full of discovery
