#xcde #xenoblade #once again #the night lighting makes me sad #especially after how cool it was in xc1 and xcx #the atmospheric effects are still pretty good #there's a reason that the night pictures are mostly angled upwards while the day and evening pictures can focus on stuff on the ground #i tried playing with the brightness for a couple shots but i think the issue is more the saturation of colors at night #those might be the right words but i know i have an issue with it

#xcde #xenoblade #so pretty #i talked about why i love this area so much in the tags for the day post of alcamoth #but its just #so so so good #i hate the fact that you can't get to the top floor until the very end of the game #like what would be the harm in letting me up to the coronation balcony #i just want a little peek #they actually show multiple areas of alcamoth in the credits that they don't let you into in the actual game #and it makes me SO FRUSTRATED #i just want infinite content from this game tbh but i don't feel like that's too much to ask #like oh hey you beat the game? you can go to a single new area that you could go to in the original #i know for a fact that it's all rendered #definitely not the one that you get to go to where you could look over the entirety of eryth sea but that's understandable

#xcde #xenoblade #i had so much fun with these #the apocalyptic feeling of alcamoth is super super good #like it had already been turned into a horrifying area when the bionis did its thing and the telethia swarmed into it #and now it's horrifying for an entirely different reason #it's fallen into ruin and been invaded by a new giant entity #the hexagonal panels having fallen out leaving geometrically precise holes is probably my favorite change they made #because they look cool as fuck #but also they kind of remind us what an advanced and precise society the high entia were #and then the fact that it's all fallen into ruin makes things feel just that much more desolate #i really wanted a sidequest like colony 6 where you repair alcamoth but future connected could only be so much #but imagine in another world where you could go back to the new colony 9 and explore the surrounding area #traveling between the colony and the shoulder via junks #collecting things in both places to repair the glass ceilings and clear the plants #and then you get alcamoth working again #and it's beautiful because of the effort you put in and then it evolves into a new trade hub #and maybe you get to watch as traffic increases and you see more ships flying back and forth #anyways

#xcde #xenoblade #had to fucking FIGHT the xc2 lighting engine for these ones #ive definitely talked about this before. the xc2 lighting engine makes everything look like shit at night #what looks okay at night? glowy things #so i sought out glowy things #all things considered i think these turned out pretty good #but at any rate #what happened with gael gar. like what purpose did he serve #the final quest with him was just annoying to be honest like he basically asks melia to come kill him #like i didnt think he even had a reasonable point of view #which could be interesting to investigate from a position of 'he's a fanatic and isn't logical' but it isn't played like that #he just kind of exists #blows up a lab #says some weird unjustifiable shit and then leaves #melia's comebacks were not exactly that good either #anyways im sure theres more analysis to be done about that character but i just dont want to #he does not interest me and neither do his perspectives #which i think is kind of sad because there could have been some really interesting stuff about how the post-zanza world should be run #considering everything that has changed #like who put shulk and co in charge? they are mostly essentially children who grew strong enough to kill god #i feel like they could have done something really interesting with some people reasonably pushing back against the new people in charge #but instead we get 'i dont like the ancestors!' vs 'i like the ancestors!'

#xenoblade #xcde #i love gran dell #its so so so nice and its' got a big tower and it's got machina #the one thing i dont like about xc3 that i've seen so far has been what they did to the machina #that is a human man #with gray face paint #but gran dell also has wheat fields #the thing that xcfc really nails is the apocalyptic feel #like these people have escaped a horrifying creature and are really just making do with what they have and staying behind their walls #the land may be beautiful but they are trapped and defenseless until the companions show up #and then their armus start attacking them??? that fucked me up #the things that are providing you food and keeping you alive are suddenly trying to kill you #probably going to ramble about what i didn't like in the next post but the feel of apocalypse was very present and very well done

I finally finished Future Connected. The game has been out for over two years at this point

#xcde #xenoblade #whats up. im alive #ive been posting on my sideblog awareriki pretty frequently these days but have had no time to play games #and suddenly its winter break #and i remember i haven't finished this game #this semester almost killed me #trying to do engineering and music at the same time does not leave a lot of room for playing videos game #unfortunately i will not be purchasing xenoblade 3 yet #i doubt i'll have time to finish it over winter break just based on the number of hours I've seen people say it takes to see most of it #and i would want to go through basically every sidequest #looks fun though! i haven't seen much gameplay but the characters look pretty fun #i might buy it in the summer but honestly i dont know what my summers gonna look like #because last summer i had a 9-5 and spent like a collective two weeks traveling to opposite sides of the country #and i was living in another city! so who knows #its wild to think about how much i've changed since i started this blog like i was a little baby when i posted that first photoset #but anyways ive got some stuff coming up and maybe ill do another landscape gradient thing people seemed to really like that one

hi! i've enjoyed looking through your xcde and comparison shots a lot lately, and whenever i miss the game i come back to them!!! they all really capture the beauty of the game, and reading your comments on it is really cool! i was wondering how you took such good pics without the ui and characters showing up, though? i too want to take pics, but i cant get them out of the way unless i get melia to kick the air ;v;

First, thanks so much for your kind words! I appreciate that people still look at this blog even if it's not as active these days.

As for taking pictures without the UI and characters, the original Xenoblade and Definitive Edition are a bit different, so I'll talk about each of them. In both, you can remove the entire UI except for the party gauge in the game's settings. The only way that I know of to remove the party gauge is to run it down completely by standing still (which is much easier in the original when you have a speed-up button on an emulator).

For the original Xenoblade, you can't zoom the camera in all the way through the character, who then always shows up in the frame. You can get around this by moving whoever you're controlling next to a solid surface and then rotating the camera towards the surface so it clips through their character model. This doesn't actually make taking pictures that much harder, as there's tons of little rocks and ledges scattered around that you can clip the camera through. It definitely takes some getting used to, but I think it's fun to run around looking for the best wall to frame your photo in front of.

Definitive Edition doesn't have this problem, and you can zoom the camera all the way in like you can in XCX and XC2. In the original, there were several places that I really wanted photos of but there weren't any good walls nearby, so being able to run right up to them and get great shots in DE was incredibly rewarding.

As for party members you don't control getting into shots, there's no real way to prevent this besides wiggling your character around until they resettle and leave the frame. This is a lot worse in the original, because having a wall behind you means that the NPCs will tend to walk right in front of where you're trying to point the camera. It takes some practice and some luck (usually more luck) to get certain shots, but it's definitely not too hard to get the hang of.

Side note: if you're interested in taking pictures of XCX, it essentially has the same UI & camera things as DE, and is thankfully very easy to get pictures of. XC2 is by far my least favorite game to photograph (and in every other respect), as there's no way to remove certain large parts of the UI.
