SCANNER EXPERIMENTATION - WEEK ELEVEN
all images are scanned bead strands and loose pearl beads
prior to the assembly of the final sculpture - I wanted to work with some of my hanging elements as a seperate source of expression.
I genuinely adored this process so much (hence the sheer amount of scanned works i created) - and it really supplemented the exploration I am doing relating to textural aspects of my personal work.
I started by experimenting with the scanner lid closed and with fabric lace and some chosen bead strands (pictured in another post).
For these specific images I spent some time layering the glass bead strands witht the longer pearl bead strands - trying it with the scanner open and closed, moving the strands while scanning, arranging the loose beads between the strands. I then incorporated the plastic bead strands to create this curtain-like situation. Again, i moved these strands through the scanner while it was working and also attempted to use my own body (hands) to create this really awesome effect of somebody peeking through this curtain of bright colour.
The final products were brilliant; and I plan to develop these images further through some Photoshop editing thanks to some tips from Daniel!

FINALISING THE DOME - WEEK TEN/ELEVEN
At this stage, I was quite nervous as to how the final product would look.
In my original mockup; the seams of the triangles would be covered with some form of yarn or fabric - so I used some chenille blanket yarn with a white-pink gradient to clean up the triangle seams (as pictured above).
This addition definitely boosted my confidence and quelled some of the fears I had regarding how neat this section of the sculpture would be. I also took a further steps in adding white lace, embroidery thread, ‘loopy’ yarn - all conforming to the colour scheme I had going throughout the sculpture.
REFLECTIONS SO FAR
My choice to move away from canvas work for this particular piece was a long-time coming, and getting to this point with a work I didn’t think was going to pan out the way I originally planned was definitely a breath of fresh air and a new wind of motivation. I struggle with confidence and burnout, so spending so much time and effort on something I didn’t necessarily have the expertise to do ‘perfectly’ was definitely a challenge. Despite this; the processes involved so far have been deeply mindful and have taken up several weeks of my time that would have been spent not pushing myself the way I would like to have done. Creating all these elements (the beading, crocheting and assemblage) have been incredibly tactile and grounding for me. I truly put my heart and soul into this sculpture, the spiritual representation it has for me and also the formal and textural links to our natural world (the parallels between deep sea creatures like jellyfish, portugese man’o’war, earthly beings such as weeping willow trees and mushrooms + elements from the universe like comets and shooting stars).

CHOSEN FABRICS AND ASSEMBLY PROCESS
Once I completed the frame for the sculpture, I needed to move onto adding the textiles onto dome. For this, I purchased several 1m x 1m sheets of fabric, one blue tulle, one pink tulle, one iridescent sheer fabric, one rainbow tulle and one starry rainbow tulle - i wanted to layer it somehow.
I settled on layering alternate fabrics (e.g, traingle 1: 2 x pink/blue tulle + 1 x iridescent fabric - all glued into a singular fabric triangle). The alternating pink/blue tulles were used to shift the tones of the rainbow tulle i was planning to layer on top.
The drying process and layering process took close to two days, and essentially the last step was to assemble the 6 triangles on the dome and glue the final sections of rainbow tulle on the top (first four images on this post).
