Ok I'm putting this under a read more because I rambled way too much oops.

How does your OC feel about their birthday?

So I went with the 28th of December for her birthday, thanks to your help! Honestly, probably more positively now than when she was young? With it being in-between Christmas and the New Year, she never really expects much attention anyway. It always felt more like a obligation from her parents when she was younger, so she appreciated whatever she could get.

It was when she reached her teens, that she noticed how the people around her spoke to and about her differently than they used to before. All the talk of womanhood and expectations got worse with each year, and made her dread her birthday. Back then, the main person who was able to make her feel positively about her birthday was Gator, even if it meant they sometimes had to sneak away to celebrate.

It's only after she leaves, and lives with a more supportive family, that they start to encourage her to celebrate her birthday properly, even if she still doesn't expect much attention.

What item does your OC hold most dear?

Well there's the St Jude necklace she's had since she was thirteen (that has likely had to have the chain replaced a couple of times by now). I also think there's a good chance that back when they were dating, Gator got her a necklace with a bird on it that she used to wear all the time too. I think she would have taken that with her when she moved away too, trying to hold onto a scrap of hope, but I think after a couple of years, it probably ends up hidden at the bottom of a jewellery box. (Although it absolutely finds its way back to regular rotation after everything at the ranch) I don't think she was able to take too much with her when she left, so she had to prioritise necessities more when it came to packing, but I know there was more I was thinking of before that I frustratingly can't remember now. I think I'll be coming back to this answer and adding more when I can.

If your OC ever got the chance, would they go back in time? When would they go?

I had a feeling you would ask this one, and honestly it's a complex answer? A sort of yes and no? I assume we're talking about in their own life, and I think for a long time the answer would have been yes, and perhaps unsurprisingly she would have wanted to go back to the last time she spoke (or rather, argued) with Gator, the week before she left. She would always wonder if there had been something she could have said or done to make him come with her instead, so that's why she would have wanted to go back, to try anything to convince him.

Though when she got older (and obviously goes through therapy etc), those stronger feelings would fade, and she would think it was for the best that she left for her own wellbeing and that she didn't really have a choice? And honestly, even after everything that went down after they met again, she wouldn't be fully sure of her answer but she would lean towards no, because she feels that now due to her own experiences and her job etc, that she can help him more now? But obviously she'd still wish he didn't have to go through all that.

So I guess it depends how old Dawn is when the question is posed to her :P (If we're talking more general time travel, I don't think she would want to go back in time. If anything, she would want to see the future, in the hope that life would be better for people.)

What part of yourself do you love in your OC?

This is the toughest question I think! I guess the first thing that comes to mind is the idea of wanting to help others where I can? (And how that comes through with both of my OCs, just in different ways) The other would probably be that for obvious reasons, I'm not much of a physical person, so I have to use my words wisely too, especially in regards to fighting back or conflict resolution and all that I guess. So that's why it just felt right to go down that route for Dawn too?

rippling sunset you’re the nicest person i’ll ever meet, probably. with an undying passion to protect those who can’t protect themselves, you’re energetic and bubbly to a fault. it’s cute, watching you run around trying to tie up loose ends. i feel bad for you — out of everyone you know, you probably have some of the deepest trauma, more than anyone’s aware of. this isn’t something that you want attention for at all, and you’d really just rather forget it exists at all… even then, it seems like you can never escape it. i wish you a pleasant rest of your life, full of rippling sunsets and free of prying eyes.

Dawn:

flightless bird the thought of your found family is what motivates you in your own little world. you touch the clouds, and the soil gives way under your footprints… this is utopia. if you were to erase one thing, it would be your memory. experience is important, but ignorance is bliss. identity, in heaven, should give way to happiness. you'd give anything just to sit by the swings and eat ice cream, but this isn't that kind of world. you have to get up and wash the dirt off of your scraped knees. i think you have an escapism problem.

The Chase - Basixx

Sounds kind of like a classic getaway car (in the traditional meaning, rather than the Taylor song meaning pfft) kind of AU? So maybe something like the lab/army follow up on their threats (I know they were more of a thing in S1 and 2 but still) after everything has been saved? Because lbr it's not as if they can do it oops

Like the gang would have to split up and run away, going incognito until they can meet up somewhere safe to try and formulate a plan? So naturally Steve and Jen would be part of the same small group (bonus if in this AU they're either in the early stages of a relationship instead) and the adrenaline etc in regards to being on the run probably intensifies, well everything, but especially their feelings/relationship I guess? (sorry to anyone else who is potentially in their small group adfgjk) Just, yeah, the danger (because obviously there's not enough of that normally pfft), passion, and keep having to find secret spots for safety? Fun times :P

3. Do they wear the other’s clothes? (sweatshirt, bandana, necklace, etc.)

Oh yes. Jennifer especially regularly “borrows” Steve’s clothes, so much so that he jokes he’s going to run out if she keeps stealing them. Her favourites are his sweatshirts, the softer the better but she’ll basically only take them if they still smell like him of course, for comfort’s sake. She’ll also sometimes wear his t-shirts as nightwear if she’s staying over and has forgotten to take pyjamas for some reason or another (She regularly “forgets” but he doesn’t mind, even if they had already decided early on for her to keep a couple of spare outfits at his anyway. If anything he prefers her wearing his shirts). One time when they hadn’t been dating that long and still trying to keep it quiet from the kids, they had almost been found out because when they came over that day to watch movies she had been wearing one of Steve’s shirts. They’d lied and said she had spilled some food down her top when making stuff for them all and so she simply had to borrow one of his instead. (Robin found it hilarious)

On Steve’s part, it’s a lot harder for him to steal clothes due to their height difference but he keeps some of her hair accessories on him (a hair tie and a scrunchie are the ones he took). When he’s feeling stressed at work or something similar, he'll put one around his wrist instead of him just having things in his pockets because it makes him feel more at ease.

10. Describe their first date.

Honestly it’s probably something quite simple? Like they’ve known each other/been friends for a few months by the time they start dating and at first Steve probably thinks he should take her for the “classic” date, going to a movie or something, that’s what he’d normally do. It’s Robin actually that convinces him to do something different so he does, he decides he’s going to take her on a picnic after he finds a picnic basket that belongs to his mother/her side of the family. He doesn’t fill it with anything fancy though, just the normal like sandwiches etc. Unsurprisingly, he also fetches her a bouquet of flowers when he goes to pick her up (which her mom calls a “nice touch” later) and makes sure he greets both of her parents before they go as they’ve known him for a while now but he still wants to reassure them he won’t bring her back late or anything. 

They find somewhere quiet and it just ended up being a much more relaxed but intimate date than either of have been on before but that just feels more natural for them. (Although she absolutely jokes about how she expected him to take her to the “infamous make out spot” of skull rock just to see him be a little flustered) So much so that they end up being out longer than expected, just sat talking long after they’ve ran out of food. Honestly, it’s probably just one of those dates that’s filled with laughter and sweetness you know? And a lot more honesty about each other/their feelings for the first time in quite a while.

14. How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash?

I feel like their caring natures are especially what compliments each other the most. The way they’re compassionate and protective about others is probably how they’re most similar. Although that can also cause clashes too? Because it’s obviously such a big worry for them when the other is in trouble (which with their circumstances happens pretty frequently) that it can lead to arguments and/or admonishment. I’d also say that their sense of humour is very similar, like a bit sarcastic and a bit silly, and how that influences how they’re likely to have fun.

Additionally, Jennifer is a lot more apprehensive/cautious than Steve, who’s definitely the more reckless type. This understandably causes a lot of anxiety at times but they also balance each other out well? Because he allows her to be more free and she teaches him to be more careful, sometimes at least.

25. Do they have any hobbies they share?

I think they’d both enjoy swimming together? Because I imagine after Barb died, it probably takes him quite a while to feel comfortable again around his pool and honestly I imagine he only starts using it again because the kids won’t stop badgering him about it so Jennifer promises him she’ll come around too to make sure no one gets hurt, much to his relief. After that first time, she makes sure she’s always around, just in case (even more so when he tells her the real reason he feels so scared about it all, not just “well I’d get killed if anything happens to them”). He’ll only get in the pool with them the first few times on her encouragement and eventually he finds himself enjoying it properly again, sometimes more so when it’s just the two of them so he’s not having to keep an eye on everyone. His main rule is no night swims though.

44. Who would dance in the kitchen making dinner? Would the other join in or watch from the doorway?

Honestly, it’s mostly Steve because Jen’s more likely to just tap out the rhythm of the song or nod along. He tends to go for it more, including sometimes whole air guitar solos. She’d mostly just watch him from the doorway to begin with but she’ll always end up giggling or teasing him and giving herself away. That always results in him pulling her over to him so they dance around the kitchen together so inevitably, the food ends up burning or boiling over etc while they’re distracted

51. What’s a non verbal way they say I love you?

They had been non verbally saying it for a while before they actually said it but with softness mostly? Steve often uses physical touch as a love language so he’ll usually be holding/touching her in some way (something the kids absolutely make fun of him for). It’s different when they’re alone though, they’re often as close to each other as they can be with Jennifer stroking his hair and Steve tracing patterns on her skin, as both help the other relax.

I also imagine things like always showing up for the other counts too? Like it doesn’t matter if it’s something trivial or serious, if they need them the other will be there. Things like Jennifer always being the one to help him with his injuries, to make sure everything’s clean and there’s no extra repercussions etc. Or like Steve making sure he helps out around the house when they’re with her parents, trying to make things easier on her and her mom as much possible (and them basically treating him as a son in return too). I feel like they’d all count too?
