◤‧₊˚🦀˚₊‧⁺˖ ARIEL◢         ---  it’s not the first time these words have been spoken to her. each time they arouse a mixture of conflicting emotions within her. the two most prominent being pride && sorrow in equal measure. she was so little when she died her memories of her now are painfully vague. sometimes she wonders if even the few memories she does have are accurate or simply things her mind made up to fill in the blanks left behind in the wake of a tragedy. ❝ father says that a lot, but like it’s a bad thing. ❞ she muses with some humor, smirking a little.

but it fades, her brows furrow and she twirls an auburn loc around her finger. playing with her hair is a habit she tends to do when something is on her mind. ❝ indira? i’m scared that someday i’ll forget her entirely. my memories of her are already so…practically non-existent. i used to think i remembered the sound of her voice, how it sounded when she would sing me to sleep but even that’s begun to fade with time. ❞ she confides in a moment of uncommon vulnerability, if she could shed tears she would do so in this moment. ariel has always tried to be the sunshine of her family, the bringer of joy && laughter.

part of her feels like she doesn’t deserve to grieve their mother like her sisters && father do. she hadn’t known her like they did as long as they did. she’s only starting to realize now that the loss fostered a different type of grief in her —- the sorrow of never being able to grow up with a mother to guide her, to comfort her. the younger mermaid whimpers and loops her arm around indira’s and presses her cheek against the yellow scales on her shoulder.

◤‧₊˚🦀˚₊‧⁺˖ ARIEL◢         ---  ❝ oh i see, well i’m glad you celebrate yours. you deserve a day to be absolutely spoiled in my opinion. ❞ ariel says affectionately. ❝ for my kingdom specifically we sing for the mermaid or merman who’s birthday it is, play some games, and blow bubble rings at cakes made of sand and sweet seaweed. for my father’s birthday if you’d like an example of a royal celebration there is a huge carnival with music and with plenty of great food && dancing until our tails are sore. ❞ she explains, giggling and twirling in the water. the sunlight hitting her just right so that even under the water her scales shimmer green, blue, and pink / purple like precious jewels.

❝ i do not think we dragons actually celebrate our birthdays —– at least i have yet to met one who does. ❞ ⸻ the winged mountain basks in the carribean sun, emerald scales aborbing the heat. a cloud of sand sent upwards whenever nagini took a breath.

the crownhead did celebrate her birthday —– at the very least to entertain rhaegar who insisted it was a joyous day to be solemized, because the world was blessed with the last remaining wonder of the old world; because of the four eggs her sickly mother laid, nagini was the only one to hatch. ❝ still —– i thank you for your sweet words. tell me, how do you celebrate birthdays in the carribian ocean. we ought to hold a celebration worthy of the antillean mother. ❞

◤‧₊˚🦀˚₊‧⁺˖ ARIEL◢         ---  her footsteps are quiet against the floor, and comes to a stop as the lovely sound of prince eric’s voice meets her ears. she wishes she could sing with him, the way she would with anyone special to her back home but nothing will come out no matter how hard she might try. so she simply listens to him, closing her eyes && imagining he’s right in front of her singing directly to her, for her. she feels like she could listen to him sing to himself for hours; sea shanties and love songs. the former mermaid is so lost in her thoughts she doesn’t realize she’s knocked over a small knickknack, she jumps when it hits the ground ( but thankfully it doesn’t break ).

she hurriedly picks it up && puts it back, the expression on her beautiful visage is one of embarrassment and apology. if she could speak she would apologize profusely.

◤‧₊˚🦀˚₊‧⁺˖ ARIEL◢         ---  this is the second time that she’s come to observe this human, despite knowing that he’s aware of her presence she keeps her distance. half hidden behind a rock settled in the crystal blue waters. rivaled only by the blue of the small winged beasts that come near him, too close in fact. ariel recognizes these creatures as having attacked humans before. ❝ human! be careful! get away before they attack you! ❞ she calls out in warning. not realizing of course that this human isn’t like others.
