Labour hurt. It hurt and hurt and just when she thought the pain couldn’t get any worse it would. It was the worst physical pain Annie had ever experienced in her life. There was also emotional pain. Her heart broke a little more each time she thought about not being able to grab Finnicks hand for support, when the contractions got so bad she though she might throw up. Or how when this was all over, he wouldn’t be there to see their son. He’d never hold him, never kiss him, never see what they created and that broke her heart more than thinking about how she herself would never see her husband again. Annie often wondered what would of happened to her, had she lost Finnick without being pregnant. She likes to think the pregnancy happened for a reason because when everything was crashing down she knew she couldn’t go down with it, she had to stand tall and make sure their baby had a chance; without the baby, she’d have nothing to fight for, nothing to live for without Finnick. Maybe in a way, it was his last gift to her, his last push to make her live. And she would live and give their baby the best life she could, making sure he knew who his father was and how he was a hero.

When I saw this ask I was like “omg this is gonna be fun to answer”- but now I can’t think of a favorite because I love them all and I just have SO MANY. So I’m just going to put two of them with some options: How Odesta met and how they handled his decision to fight in The Capitol. 

I always pictured Annie being a year or two younger than Finnick. So when he was reaped into the 65th games she was 12 or 13 years old. When she gets reaped into the 70th games she is either 17 or 18 years old. My headcanon usually sways towards the idea of her being only a year younger though. 

How Finnick and Annie Met

1) Childhood friends that stuck together through the 65th games/mentoring her/the 70th games. I like to think Annie and Finnick realize they love each other before he goes into the games (they both admit it during the hour given to the tributes). But he comes home and they become a thing- they are safe for 2 years before he’s sent off to the Capitol to be sold. Annie becomes such a problem between Finnick and his “work in The Capitol” that she is “randomly” selected in the 70th games. 

2) Finnick and Annie knew of each other (think of Gale and Katniss before they became friends) passed by one another at school, etc. He gets reaped and becomes the District Dream Boy, and Annie is still a distant person from him. But then she gets reaped and he falls for her while mentoring her and after she wins her games. Boom. 

In District 13/Before Finnick Leaves for The Capitol

1) Both Finnick and Annie had no idea she was pregnant so he left without any hesitations to fight for the Rebellion. She would most likely find out after he leaves- either before or after his death. I think this one works the best. 

2) Beforehand, Finnick and Annie discuss the dangers of him going to the Capitol to fight for the Rebel cause. Maybe Finnick knew Annie was pregnant with his child but was determined to fight for the best future for his family. But he didn’t reveal HOW dangerous it was to her (the whole Annie can’t see that holograph/I want to destroy Snow section in Mockingjay). Even if she or FInnick knew, I feel like Annie wouldn’t want Finnick to go to the Capitol and Finnick would feel he needs to stay to watch over Annie and their child. 

3) Annie didn’t tell Finnick about her pregnancy because she wanted to let her husband fight without something holding him back. She knew he wanted to fight for the cause so she didn’t get in the way. But I don’t like this headcanon lol- so ignore it. Lol.

How do you think Annie figured out Finnick's capital situation? Do you think he told her or did she figure it out and confront him? Also, what are your headcanons for their families. I know Haymitch said Mags practically raised him.

Hmmm… Brace yourself this might be a bit lengthy!

Well I feel like when Finnick won his games and first received all the attention he must’ve been really excited and proud of his “success.” Of course, he was a 14 year old boy from the districts- this is exposure to the Capitol is new and probably something very amazing in his eyes. But my headcanon is that he never let his Victor status get to his head even though he had everything. It was just a new asset that he found to be very entertaining and fun for him. He has fame and fortune basically everything many people- especially young teenagers- dream about having. He probably went to Annie and told her all about it, being all super proud of his new found wealth and status. Annie probably listened and supported him throughout it all but kept her concerns/reservations to herself because she knew Finnick wouldn’t let it get to his head (Like something that lingers in the back of your head but you know will never happen). So Annie and Finnick just spend this time together, enjoying each other’s company being cute and all District 4 like, not fully aware of the Victor consequences (since almost everyone assumes it’s the best thing ever). This lasts for the two years before the Capitol sweeps him away when he turns 16. 

“Because of his youth, they couldn’t really touch him for the first year or two. but ever since he turned sixteen, he’s spent his time at the Games being dogged by those desperately in love with him. No one retains his favor for long. He can go through four or five in his annual visit.”   

SIDE NOTE: So canon says he would return to the Games annually (once a year) and “visit” his suitors. So that’s about 40-50 people he’s been with. We have no idea if he was called back to the Capitol throughout the year/when he was living in District 4. But my headcanon makes it seem as if it was a once a year thing. 

So the Games when he is 16 is most likely the first time Snow sold him against his will. We know for a fact the Capitol keeps tabs on Victors (no idea how since nothing was mentioned in the Trilogy). We see this when Snow exposes the fact he knows about the Galeniss kiss a couple weeks after she returns from her first games. So, I’m sure when Finnick was preparing for his trip to the Capitol to Mentor/take part of the “Celebrations” of the 67th Games he was just expecting to see the “we love Finnick” and living in luxury shebang throughout the weeks spent in the Capitol, based off of his first year taking part of the 66th festivities when he was 15. But since he was now considered “old enough” Snow knew he could take advantage of this Victor. 

I picture President Snow arriving at the Odair home in the District 4 Victor’s Village the same way he did to Katniss before her Victory Tour. Prancing in being all like, “I’m going to sell your body now.” Finnick objecting. President Snow threatening the lives of his loved ones. You get my drift. This is where things get a bit hazy- since we don’t have a clear understanding of how Annie and Finnick became an item AND because I have several headcanons as to how it happened. Annie could’ve been interviewed during Finnick’s Games and maybe portrayed to be a family member to the public (similar to the Gale-Cousin thing). But this would be because Finnick was something citizens would lust for not because he was “taken” by another tribute. He could’ve “broken up” with her before he left for the Games because he feared what President Snow would’ve done to her when he was gone, or he felt his new “role” would make him feel unfaithful to Annie. Many different things are possible. I just haven’t really looked that into it to figure it out- but this is really helping me create a solid headcanon so thank you for that anon! Moving on now. 

Annie is probably thinking, “How could this happen to us?” I can imagine throughout the 67th Games she’s depressed he’s gone/left her and is angered by this whole “Flirty District Dream Boy” image that Finnick has now put up, worried and upset that her deepest fear of Finnick’s Victor’s status getting to his head actually becoming true. But in reality Finnick is worried sick through out the entire time of what Annie is thinking, if his loved ones are safe, what is going to happen to him in the future. 

He survives- obviously- and returns home. I feel he and Annie run in to each other or meet up and she displays her anger at him for doing such a thing of abandoning his old self for this new person she saw throughout the entire games. And I think that’s when he breaks and tells her everything. Of course, Annie believes, him forgives him and tries to repair him. But Finnick only fears their relationship will just bring danger to her and his family (which I will be getting to after this- I promise!). So they get back together, she understands the circumstances and they continue from where they left off before the 67th games with this new obstacle. But of course, it’s hard. Wow I basically just created my headcanon of how Annie found out. Thank you Anon- I love you. hahaha. I feel heavily inspired to start some fanfic now. 

Now about their families. Okay, I’m not gonna lie I have not put much thought in to this. We have nothing canon too which really sucks. But I like to believe Annie’s family is still alive and that she had someone to go back to after the war. The Odair family can either be: dead or not dead. Based off of the things we hear about Mags’ and Finnick’s relationship in Catching Fire (In the book Johanna is the one that mentions Mags was his mentor/practically raised him. But, in the movie Haymitch is the one), it seems to be fit that the Odair family is dead. Maybe Snow killed them because he continued his relationship with Annie? Who knows? But it could also be possible that Mags became a strong family friend/a part of the family because she mentored him throughout the 65th Games. So we know for a fact she did all she could to keep him alive. I’ll have to ponder on this one a bit more, anon. But feel free to come back within the next few days/weeks.
