it should be a relief to have someone by your side, but to edward, it always feels... heavy. it doesn't help that the other is younger. not as young as nina, but she's all he can think about sometimes. especially on days like these, where things are hard and the rain is coming down heavy.

"i dunno if you wanna sign up for that." he offers, instead of anything definitive. "things usually don't go this well." and both of them are sitting in the military hospital, some bandages wrapped around his head. yeah, this is considered well.

"winry, i'm fine." as much as he loves coming home, he also hates it. it makes him feel so much smaller than the rest of the world. and yeah, he knows he has a fever right now, and if alphonse could feel things, he'd be saying the same exact thing, but that doesn't change a thing. edward doesn't want to stop. he doesn't want to sit still.

it's bad enough that his automail is broken, but a fever? fuck.
