After a life-saving mind meld with Spock, Captain Kirk begins to experience vivid dreams of ancient Vulcan, a time of warring clans and primal bonds.

In these dreams, a prince bearing Spock's likeness claims they are destined mates, leaving Kirk haunted by how real everything feels.

When Kirk shares this with Spock, he is told that Vulcans do not dream, deepening the mystery. Unbeknownst to Spock, Kirk is connecting with a remnant of his subconscious left behind from the meld.

As the dreams grow more intense, Kirk finds himself grappling with his own emotions, toward both his trusted first officer and the mysterious Vulcan prince in his dreams.

If I remember it right, Sonequa was actually the one to come up with the name 'Blu'. When Blu started acting for Disco, they had just started coming out and didn't have a chosen name yet. Sonequa, the sweetheart she is, started calling them by a different name each day so they could see how each name felt. Eventually they landed on Blu, also because their favourite colour was blue when they were a child!

It’s okay to opt out of art you know is going to upset you, but it is ALWAYS valuable to check in with yourself and ask “why do I think this is making me uncomfortable? Can I perhaps see the value this art could bring to others? What might these feelings teach me about myself?”

The disturbing, taboo, and difficult are explored in fiction as an invitation to look at society, interpersonal relationships, and the self in new ways. Art is under no obligation to be “moral” or didactic, only to facilitate intense emotions and big discussions.

Greek tragedy was bloody and heart-wrenching, but it facilitated emotional catharsis, which helped keep society functioning. Early Gothic novels were lambasted as salacious and immoral, but their use of the taboo allowed them to engage with power, gender, and class in powerful ways.

Finally, I must impress upon the reader that dark art can indeed have an element of lurid thrill to it, and that’s also fine, because humans love to be titillated and scandalized by a wild fictional premise in the safety of their own homes.

Anyone else think that once the Vulcans made contact with Earth they’d end up with a bunch of the human population wanting to learn their ways?

I know in TOS it’s always ‘ho ho silly Vulcans with their insistence on logic it’s just not Huuuuuman is it?’ but holy shit after the last decade IRL I be straight on their spaceship begging for some rationalism. I’d get into the wall panels like some kind of logic-seeking raccoon. They’d have to chase me out of the Jeffries tubes with a broom.
