NADA Cancels 2019 New York Fair
The New Art Dealers Alliance announced today that it has decided to cancel the 2019 edition of its New York fair, which typically runs in March each year. NADA said that it will instead focus on supporting gallery programming during the week the fair usually runs, when fairs like the Armory Show and Independent also set up shop around town.

Developer Installs Giant David Salle Prints On McKim, Mead & White Building in New York
Two large-format prints of David Salle paintings are going up on display on a historic building designed by the architecture firm McKim, Mead & White being redeveloped in the NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan. Swamp Music, which will overlook Fifth Avenue, measures 47 by 70 feet, and Solar System, around the corner to loom over 28th Street, is 44 by 66 feet. Taking up their home this weekend, both are works by the New York painter from 2013. The limestone and terra cotta edifice is being restored in advance of the opening of a hotel in a conjoined tower by Flâneur Hospitality. Art advisor Elizabeth Margulies joined the company as a consultant for a project to repurpose scrims installed for construction purposes, and she will continue to organize art programming for the hotel slated to open in fall of next year.

Painted-Over Banksy Murals To Be Uncovered
Three early works by the artist Banksy which were accidentally painted over with grey emulsion in a Glasgow nightclub are to be restored.
The murals, which feature a gun-toting monkey in a tutu and a framed Mona Lisa, were created as part of an exhibition at The Arches in 2001.
However, they were mistakenly covered in 2007 then left after the club went into administration in 2015.
A team of restorers is due to take five months to uncover the works.
Banksy created the works, which also feature the words "Every time I hear the word culture I release the safety on my 9mm" when he was beginning his career as a graffiti artist. They were shown as part of the "Peace is Tough" exhibition in March 2001, headlined by Jamie Reid, best-known for creating the iconic Sex Pistols Never Mind The Bollocks album cover. But six years later, and long after Banksy had established himself as an international artist, the murals were covered with grey emulsion during refurbishment work at the nightclub.

12 Murals In 12 Weeks Spark Contemporary Art Space Launches Public Art Project
A new project to create "12 murals in 12 weeks" is in the works through public art pilot program 315Alive, connecting local artists with spaces to create murals throughout Syracuse. Spark Contemporary Art Space, located at 1009 E. Fayette St., Syracuse, will head the program, along with a committee composed of citizens representing different community interest areas. The committee has identified 20 walls in and around downtown Syracuse with formal permissions to create public art. These spaces are privately owned and contribute to public spaces in that they are public-facing structures.

Art Installation Fills 400 Year Old Greek Ruin With Colorful ‘Pixels’
The Greek island of Paxos is home to some incredible ruins. Crumbling stone structures from hundreds of years ago are scattered about the tiny island, giving it a rustic ancient feel. The last thing you’d expect to find when walking through the ruins is a colorful contemporary art installation. And yet, there it is—a chromatic array of fabric strung across a 400-year-old courtyard. The German artist duo, Quintessenz, installed the colorful new piece for the Paxos Contemporary Art Project, and it’s a perfectly modern contrast to the island’s worn aesthetic.

Central Park’s First-Ever Female Statue Is Coming In 2020
One thing you can see a lot of in Central Park is statues. There's a seemingly diverse array of literary and historical worthies except for one small matter: They're all statues of men. That's right, there isn't a single sculpture of an historically significant woman in the park, and to make matters worse, there are only five such monuments of women in all of New York (meanwhile, there are 145 statues of men, 25 of them in Central Park). That’s hard to believe in 2018, but there you have it. The good news? There will be a statue of two women coming to the park in 2020.
