This has been on my mind for long but I’m gonna do this - please reblog this if you’re comfortable with pre-establishing relationships. I do not mean “met at the grocery store two weeks ago” or “have a common friend”, but rather stuff like “have been best friends since kindergrden”, “go for a beer every friday”, “friends with benefits”, “dated in highschool”, “hate each other’s guts because -insert reason-” etc. Something meaningful (but not necessarily shippy) and I mean with muns/characters you have not interacted with, because I cannot believe I am the only one who prefers jumping right into the heart of the human interaction.

Two hundred years.
That's how long it had been since he'd last spoken to his friend. Two hundred years, and yet Vaux had not changed much. Of course he wouldn't have they were elves, aside from looking a bit older they were still young, well... Vaux was older Astarion would forever be a child frozen at thirty nine years frozen but doomed to outlive his friend.
During the aftermath of the battle with the Netherbrain there had only been one true thought upon his mind. One worry that had always been etched there during those two centuries of torture and pain. The one reason he'd tried to escape so many times.
Standing now before the boutique shop that seemed to have survived the main destruction of the city. How many nights had he walked past this place too afraid to walk in, too afraid to show any sort of interest less Cazador realize what the owner meant to Astarion. So many of those nights he'd spent in the shadows watching his friend work or close up shop and so so many of those nights he'd wanted to follow him if only to apologize.
Now there he was seated beside him, crimson eyes now focused on the ground before him as he listened. If his heart had still beat he would have felt it tighten and struggle at the hint of sadness in that voice. The soft feel of warmth enclosed upon his cold skin draws him from his meloncholy as he looks at Vaux's hand clasping his own. He returns the squeeze softly.
"I know", he replied quietly.
"I wanted to... I wanted to come to you so many times but... I... ", he trailed off the threat of his own tears forming.
Damned it all, he thought to himself damned it all for having begun to heal, for having begun to deal with these damned emotions.
"Yes, I'm here now, though I.. I don't think there is anything you can do to help me. Not as I am now but to know that you are safe that is enough for me darling", he said sparing a glance.
@of-ancunin asked: i'm very happy to have reconnected with you.
It was... So very much to take in.
It is with a heavy heart that Vaux glances to his side once more, taking in the figure aside him that truly bore striking similarity to a friend and dear companion that he had held so very dear - that had simply vanished one day with no trace left behind. He'd spent weeks upon weeks searching, sending out people to look, his ear constantly to the ground for any mention of the missing magistrate. But as time wore on, whispers died out and eventually, Vaux had only his own grief left to consume him, no comfort gained for the gaping hole in his life couldn't be filled by any other.
Frankly, he'd never gotten over it. Even as months wore on to years, Vaux had never stopped thinking about Astarion - how high he may have climbed in his career by now... What he might have thought in Vaux's rise to fame. But he'd been gone... Gone for so long that the tailor had learned to expect that the worse had happened... That his dear friend no longer worked that earth. Or, perhaps, he had up and left without a word and started a new life elsewhere... And that thought was the worst of them all.
Despite it all gnawing at him from the inside ever since, the tailor had continued to buimd up his life, his reputation and eventually had found himself in a very good position. It gave him focus, gave him something to spend all of his time in, a constant distraction to otherwise dire thoughts.
Imagine his immense surprise that evening when he had been quietly approached by someone claiming to be Astarion - - and how it dug up all of those emotions that he had done so well to bury Iover the years. He was pale... So very pale, and seemed... Much different in himself. But Vaux's heart knew that he was his dear companion.
"I spent months looking for you." Vaux admitted, allowing a shaky exhale to ease from his nostrils. "Giving up was one of the hardest things I've ever done... I thought you were lost to me." But here he was, sat right beside him - his dear friend from all those years ago and yet somehow very different.
"If there is anything I can do to help you... You need only ask. That you are here... It's a wish come true." A relief for his dear heart that had done naught but ache ever since - perhaps now it could begin to heal, to bury all of that difficulty that had only haunted him since. "You're really here... I can scarce believe it."
He's teary, but reaches for his friends hand to give it a joyful squeeze, the pure joy he feels lifting all temporary woes.
"We have so much to catch up on... So much to talk about."

This side of the city looked almost exactly like the alley Astarion's small apartment was located. The low income peasants of Rivington dwelled outside the gates of the main city. Dirt roads instead of cobbled streets meant mud and filth. At least the smell was not as rank as some other parts of the town.
A small smile of relief though as the carriage jostled to a stop before the building. He spied his friend with naught but what looked to be a filled sack. A light frown threatened to form when he realized those may be all the belongings the other elf owned. Instead he put on a smile as he opened the door to the carriage allowing his companion time to settle.
"I believe I've been ready my entire life for this darling. You look lovely as ever. Don't worry about your belongings, the coachman will keep them safe with in whilst we mingle", he added motioning to the bag.
"I believe there will be many important lords and ladies from Waterdeep and Neverwinter", he mentioned with a hint of excitement.
As the carriage moved towards the gates of the city he couldn't help but be in awe of it. While it was not as sprawling as Waterdeep it definitely was something of wonder for him. He'd only truly visited a handful of times given he never had the type of coin to truly reside within. Now though, now would be a chance for him to change that.
"There was mention of the Szarr family attending this function. That would be something for you to perhaps have chance in gaining favor. their wealth is immense and we both know how merchants wish to look far more fancier than what they truly are", he mused.
While dressing and saying goodbye to the very small confines of his apartment, Vaux gathered what lithe belongings he had into a bag and once the time was right, headed outside to meet his companion. He was early, that was for sure, but the fresh air allowed him to calm himself down and level his head; this was a huge decision made entirely brashly but what other option did he have? Vaux didn't want to just rot away in that little town, lost to the motions of the world. He wanted to be something! And this... this was his best chance.
A deep breath was drawn inward as he espied the carriage approaching and, with naught more than a brief glance behind him at what he had called home for some years, did he join his company within.
A bright smile, a small wink; Vaux attempted to hide the sense of nervousness that had ambitiously settled within the confines of his chest and instead bask in the excitement of it all.
"Well, this is it, sweet-! Are you ready?"

Sitting out by the fire, crimson hues took in the ambiance around him. The wizard was currently rummaging through supplies preparing whatever possible for sustenance while deep in boring conversation with their towering druid guest. His gaze fell toward the cleric, normally he would have gone over to her tent to gossip but she was with the tiefling.
The sound of steel upon steel had his ears twitch. Ah, so that's where the warlock and the githyanki had gone. No doubts their furry friends were by the water watching the duo spar. That left one other who was currently not with in sight. Rising from his seat upon the fallen log and way from the warmth of the fire he made his way across camp.
A smirk slid over his lips as he studied her hunched over scribbling away in that book of hers. Every moment she wasn't out with the others in camp she was holed away with that book. Of course Astarion figured she was perhaps chronicling her thoughts or their adventures, that did not mean he couldn't have fun with her.
Peering over her shoulder he watched her scribble away before a laugh and grin slid over his lips when she spooked. With her distracted he'd taken the book and looked it over not truly reading anything but merely acting as if he were flipping pages. Slender fingers thumbed through the entries.
"What have we here hmm? Confessing your undying love for...", his sight did catch a name as he looked at the book.
"Gale! Really?! Gale? Oh gods above and below", he teased knowing that's not what was in the book.
"Really darling, you could do better. Have some standards! I mean Wyll at least would be a step up, though I'm not too sure how much of a step up but it would be far better than.... Gale", he feigned a disgusted sigh as he handed the book back to her.
"I wouldn't mind though assisting you in forgetting about the wizard. I am a professional you know", he added as he looked at his nails coyly.
@of-ancunin liked and gets Leannan
Leannan sat with one leg tucked under her, her journal resting in her lap. She'd learned long ago that keeping one helped her keep things straight when time seemed to escape her- and was particularly helpful when a certain archfey decided to pay her a visit. Or, as things had gone lately, a particular dream visitor.
Bent over the journal as she wrote, her dark red hair falling forward around her face like a curtain.
She was so absorbed in her writing and in thought that she didn't register the presence behind her at first. When she finally did realize someone was standing right behind her, peering over her shoulder, Leannan jumped, letting out a small squeal of surprise, and turned to raise her iridescent blue eyes to Astarion.
"Fucking Hell," she breathed out, relief flooding through her. "Don't do that!"

"How about I treat us this evening and take us both out for a meal somewhere nice?"
He sighed softly rubbing the bridge of his nose. His violet eyes shut for a moment as he attempted to relax the stiffness in his shoulders. Being a magistrate seemed to entitle far more than what he thought it would be. So many rules and laws, so many damned amendments and contradictions and then there was the whole issuing a ruling.
He ran his hands through his silver curls with silent defeat. How would they survive on the meager earnings. He'd thought once he'd gotten something he'd find himself quickly elevated. Pulling off the glass spectacles he set them on the small desk and looked over at the voice coming from the other side.
"Are you truly willing to put up with me at this moment? I find myself in a mood", he sighed as he leaned back in the chair folding arms over his chest.
A nice meal did sound good though and given his companion's small blessing of fortune since their move perhaps he would accept though it would be paid back.
"Hells why not, it's not as if I'll find any sort of joy staring at these damned documents. Besides we've not spent time together since you acquired those commissions", he mused.
