Timberwatch felt silent for the first time since she had arrived. After all the hassle with the Lords and the Whitehills and Aaren, Kyra was somewhat grateful for the tranquility - but with it came a sense of emptiness and dread.
They were gone now, off to avenge their families; those who had died at the Twins and those who had been brutalised in the following year and a half. Rodrik - the man who had swaggered into Timberwatch, had wed Kyra’s sister - had left with almost every other able bodied man in tow, most distressingly Kyra’s cousin Hugar and her brother, Namond.
The young girl could not hide the fact that she was fearful for her brother’s life, and she needed to talk to someone about it, but no one came to mind. Edmure was busy with the baby, Aaren and Nestor needed their rest. Lyarra and Ostyn were nowhere to be found, and Rhaesa and Oriele probably wanted nothing to do with her anyway.
It only took a moment for Kyra to recall that Namond was married, but she deemed it a moment too long. How foolish of her to forget that the woman had elected to remain at Timberwatch until her husband’s return, and would likely share Kyra’s concern.
Forgetting to knock on the door of the woman’s temporary chambers, she approached the woman cautiously, spying her sitting on the edge of her bed. It was late, so Meghan was likely getting ready for bed, but Kyra could not let this wait until tomorrow.
“Th-they’re going to come b-back, aren’t they?” she asked, alerting the woman to her presence as she linked her arms in front of her - shrinking an already small frame. “I-it’s not... g-going to b-be like the Twins, is it?”

The child approached from his left, unannounced, yet the way she stammered her words out suggested she really wanted something. Low & shaky voice was filled with determination, that, for such a tiny one, must’ve been hard to muster. Unwillingly, the soldier turned to fully face the girl, revealing some new features of his, ones she must’ve missed from her former angle. The scar across right part of man’s face & a sword at his waist.
Harys was sure he would’ve been told if there were children, related to Cley, at Castle Cerwyn; but this one didn’t look or act like a lowborn either. Babysitting wasn’t exactly what he’s been hired to do, but he’d try to be civil, although feeling no real wish to. That much he owed Cley. Her demeanor was far from friendly, & it didn’t look like anything he’d do or say would change that. He didn’t recall ever wronging, or even meeting this particular child, and wondered idly what could possible trigger such hostility.
“Yet here I am.” A corner of his mouth twitched, smirking, barely noticeable behind the beard though. She has called him a Whitehill — shit, how he wished that was still true. Loosing the position, the respect, everything — but keeping the nefarious reputation? Yeah, that sounded like his way to go. “Not sure I’ve seen you before, young lady. How do I know if anyone wants you here then?”
“Cley w-wants me here.” Kyra stammered, the words escaping her lips before she even had chance to think about what she was saying. “We-we’re friends. H-he invited m-my family here.”
She was telling the truth - the young Glenmore possessed almost a complete inability to lie to anyone or anything, even her foes.
“I’m a G-Glenmore.” she announced, as if to state the obvious - still trying to stand up to the man regardless of the fact she had to tilt her head all the way back to even look him in the face. “S-so... I-I’m sorry...” her eyebrows knitted together as she scowled at the stranger, “I’m s-sorry i-if I don’t w-want to see a Wh-Whitehill at my... my friend’s house after what happened to by br-brother.”
Kyra wasn’t entirely certain why she apologised to the man. Perhaps it was just common courtesy. Lyarra would have spat at the man’s feet - mother would have spat in his face. Namond and father... they probably would have done far worse knowing what had happened to Arthur.
“Wh-whatever reason y-you have to be here, it’s p-probably not good enough.” she informed the stranger, as if it was a warning. “Y-you should l-leave before C-Cley finds out you’re here. H-he doesn’t like Whitehills either.”

She studied him, eyes narrow and brow furrowed. A colossal man before a
small girl. A thick brown beard contrasted against rich, red hair, and silver
armour against a light red dress.
“I kn-know... what you are.” She stammered, trying to maintain her resolve.
Never Relent, Never Yield. “I’m n-n-not st-stupid. I kn-know that star on y-your
chest, Whitehill.”
She had hoped the name would come out as a curse, laced with venom, but
she did not possess the same way with words that Lyarra did. Lyarra could let
acid dance on her tongue and loose a word from it as if it were a deadly arrow
from a bow.
“’Splain y-yourself.” the younger Glenmore demanded, crossing her arms in
front of the man - perhaps if she made herself feel big, she would be more
intimidating - like father was. “W-wh-hy are you here? N-n-no one wants
y-you here.”

I’ve written Kyra for well over a year now and for quite some time I’ve viewed her (and felt like I’ve subconsciously been writing her) as if she has an autism spectrum condition. I’d love to have a character who explicitly and canonically has ASD, but I’m always aware of potential backlash from less accepting people and readers so I’m (understandably) hesitant.

Winnie flinched, as if she’d been struck.
She hadn’t been bothered — she was merely listening, waiting for Kyra to finish what she wanted to say. Certainly, if Winnie had been born with a stutter she’d hate anyone who interrupted her when she tried speaking. And besides — she liked listening to Kyra. The sound of the other’s voice relaxed her, the tone softer and more gentle than Roslin’s which often grated on her nerves.
Kyra mentioning another’s name upset her more. The thought that she’d rather be around someone else, talk to them about Bodkin — this girl who Kyra thought of as a better companion.
Head tilted downward in an effort to hide her expression. The look of hurt in her eyes.
“They’re alright,” came her mumbled response. “My sister treats them like her babies. Talks to them in this annoying voice. She can’t be normal about anything.”
“...
...I do that too.”
She often spoke to Bodkin in a sweet, squeaky voice - it must have
been something she picked up from Lyarra, who spoke to Quiver like
he was her own son. It was something animals seemed to like, though
Kyra could also see that it was, perhaps, for the mere benefit of the
owner.
But that was beside the point. The point... was Lyanna Overton. That
sweet friend of hers with her long brown hair and pale face and yellow
and grey garb. The friend whose mere existence made Winnie feel bad
- and Kyra couldn’t stand by and let her feel that way.
“Y-You’re still my best friend.” She pressed reassuringly. “Lyanna a-and
I... ou-our fathers are friends... so he w-wanted me to meet her. W-we
don’t know each other r-really, she j-just has a cat too...”
She looked at her feet, then let her fingers brush between Bodkin’s
rich, red fur again.
“I’m... sorry...” she murmured. “I didn’t... mean to hurt you.”

◆ - Standing up for them
It was the norm. Kyra was used to it by now.Bigger children of lower birth always seemed to want a pieceof her; Galt, with his eyes set unnervingly close together and his big hat. Mulch, who looked to be as wide as three of her.Dob, the ringleader with his lumpy, mud-covered face. Theywould always come up behind her and violently shove herdown into the mud, then swan off laughing - leaving her totear up and blubber as she pushed herself back up, then runhome and hopefully avoid her family as she went to gochange.
She wanted to tell her father, but she was too embarrassedto. It would hurt his reputation if other houses heard his thirddaughter was bullied by the peasantry. Her mother woulddemand harsh consequences and Kyra was too much of apeaceful soul to let harm befall even those who bullied her, while Uncle Edmure seemed just as meek as Kyra herself andwould have no idea what to do.
But, it seemed she didn’t have to worry, as this time she hadbeen with Lira. The Grimports were at Rillwater for one reasonor another - something to do with the Glenmores being swornto the Ryswells who had declared for the Boltons, whom theGrimports were already sworn to. When Dob and Mulch andGalt had come up to Kyra to knock her down for the third timethat week, Lira had stood up for her as she’d climbed back toher feet. Kyra hadn’t seen much of it as she’d been too busyholding back tears, but the three smallfolk had gone runningfrom the girl more than half a decade older than them.
Walking up to Lira as her back was turned, Kyra grabbed hersleeve and tugged it gently to get her attention. She stared ather feet for a moment, before meekly murmuring something.
“Th-thank y-you.”

Symbol Meme - ☄ - Listening to them
“I-I’m not r-rambling, am I?”
She had been talking about Bodkin for several minutes on end now, sat cross-legged on her bed with the cat in question in her lap whileher friend was in the bedside hair.
Kyra wasn’t the best with reading expressions, but Winnie seemed tobe extremely disinterested. Then again, they had not seen each otherin a few months and Kyra had a tendency to forget faces, so there wasalso the possibility that was just how Winnie’s face was.
“I-I won’t b-bother you with Bodkin any m-more,” she stammered, hiding her face in embarrassment. “I’ll t-talk to Lyanna about it whenI see her a-again.”
Winnie didn’t know about Lyanna yet.
Kyra had to change the subject. She didn’t want Winnie to get madthat she had another friend.
“S-so how… are… things… back home? A-are the sheep all right?”

💕 - Parents
💕 - Parents
Kyra’s parents are Lord Errol and Lady Syrena Glenmore. Her father is a firstborn son with two brothers and a sister, and her mother was a firstborn daughter with two younger brothers. Syrena’s maiden house was the Greysons (and Kyra has a strong bond with Aaren, one of her Greyson cousins).
Errol and Syrena were in love ever since they were young, and married in their early twenties and have had six children over the last thirty years (Kyra being the fifth).
Being a fairly sickly child, Kyra developed strong bonds with both of her parents, who worry about her more than their more independent children. Both of her parents are very loving and fussy.
Kyra essentially has a third parent in her uncle Edmure, Lord Glenmore’s youngest brother. Edmure acts as a tutor to Kyra and has taught her pretty much all that she knows - and often remarks that she’s the daughter he never had.
