| headcanon; cloud’s power level.

okay, so. i’m far more interested in the reality of being weak than the power fantasy of being, well, powerful. so with that said re: cloud vs other powerful beings in the game & why i think he is not powerful ft. genesis rhapsodos:

i feel like. cloud got no real training on the level he has to keep up at. he didn't get into SOLDIER bc he couldn't handle the mako - he got experimented on & pumped full of mako = terrible mako poisoning, which i'd personally headcanon would continue to weaken him. he's more powerful than regular people, but his body isn't meant to keep up with this. obv he's mentally fucked to the point it shows physically, but i feel like maybe the mako just continues to fuck him up physically as well.

i feel like cloud's power is that he teams up with people. genesis on the other hand was born a hybrid of jenova cells / human, stabilised by 'the goddess' ( which i'd say is permanent purely bc why tf would you call it a goddess if it's not gonna pull smth pivotal ), trained fully & extensively by SHINRA, survived an actual war, trained with sephiroth ( not that he can keep up when seph doesn't tone it down, but rather seph's skill & technique are smth gen learned to keep up with at a lower setting so he's got all that /skill/ ), [ dunno what happened to him in deepground ], &...

power is not enough.

genesis has so much skill & experience under his belt, & his body's been made suitable to him. he's never been sickly.

i think it's basic to keep the protag as the most powerful, but that cloud is far more interesting as what i'd like to consider him to be: a weak thing dumped in the deepest end & fucked with until he had to keep up with shit no-one can keep up with, & he /survived/. he didn't win exactly...he's a survivor.
