I think it's safe to say that, at this point in time, we've all become habituated to harrowing times. I'd say that ever since our very creation, we've been tossed about at the mercy of whatever party seeks world domination, at the time. This one was nothing new. Not to be pessimistic, but I suspect such situations will keep on repeating ad infinitum, and all one can do is learn to manage them...

Bah! That's sure a negative outlook, ain't it? Heard it a thousand times before, from decrepit old men who've only ever known the field of battle their entire lives.

Doctor, has you ever thought about what it might be like if you were human? Not even a humanoid Gear, just...human?

Quite the strange thought, isn't it? In my early days of investigating the Backyard, I postulated that there existed an indeterminate, likely infinite number of alternative realities or "universes" beyond our own, the Laws of which were contained in the Backyard simultaneously to the ones of our own reality.

It was somewhat shocking to get empirical evidence of this theory through this very magic network, but I digress.

My own theory dictates that in at least one of those infinite realities, I am human. In others, I am a humanoid gear. Perhaps I am a human who dislikes gears; perhaps I am a humanoid gear who dislikes non-humanoids. Perhaps, even, the situation is more varied; I may even be a human who particularly likes gears?

Ah, though in my younger years I would've spent a long time chasing this hypothetical, seeking to contact any of these alternative reality versions of myself... Nowadays I find little time to focus on anything except the urgent, pending and above all material.

Apologies for the delay, I- Well, I believe we're all very aware of what happened. In any case:

1- There are no significant differences in behaviour, at least from the original manufactured gears. Gears borne from doctored domestic animals simply seem to be smaller in stature, never occuring above Medium-Class.

There've been idiots here and there wanting to make "super" horses and hounds by injecting poor animals with gear cells. Right in the middle of the crusades, if you'd believe it. All they got out of it was a death tally and a pet killed by the Holy Order.

2- The Queen has answered this one, but I can offer my own insight. Nowadays there is clothing being created to adapt to gear anatomy; special sleeves made to allow for tails, spikes, horns, wings, so forth. Most holes for bigger tails utilize a system of snap-on buttons or straps, so the cloth can be tied around its base.

Those things of mine just burst holes through my clothing. Eh, guess appearing proper ain't really a concern of mine anymore.

I wish it still was.

3- Hrm... I'll have to admit humanoids are beyond my expertise. Any thoughts?

4- Despite what you may have gleamed from certain pulp raunchy novels, gears do not have heat cycles. Non-humanoids entirely lack reproductive organs and only multiply through a manner of magic-based blastogenesis.

True enough. Some have stomachs large enough to swallow an entire horse, though.

That said, you'd be correct about voice mimicry, eyesight, so onward. It vastly depends on the type of gear and original creature that was utilized in its manufacture.

Since Gears are a mixture of magical and animal DNA, what would happen if said Gear had the DNA of a domesticated animal?

You have a tail, yet it seems to just slip out of your dress. Is there a slit in your dress for your tail? Is the dress segmented? Sharon's been awfully curious about that.

Since you're a half-gear, meaning you've got some human DNA in you, does that mean the human DNA is dominant?

Finally: Since gears are part animal, does that mean that some gears have animalistic natures? Heat cycles, seeing in the dark, simplified vision, voice mimicking, those kinds of things?
