whenever people post about how they had to explain fandom to their mom and it was miserable, i’m like WEAK. WEAK, WEAK, WEAK. you haven’t lived until your mom decides to become the club advisor to the community college anime club for over ten years to support your horrid teenager lifestyle. you haven’t LIVED until your sweet innocent hairdresser starts showing you her daughter’s five nights at freddys fanart and asks if you can explain it to her. There’s something to be said for the way the older generation adheres to social rituals that cultivate community… when I was younger I would be mad embarrassed when my aunt would have me meet random people & I’m still shy but I woke up went downstairs and she introduced me to all of the stonemasons working on the house, bunch of guys she was feeding fresh fruitcake and coffee to and it’s like… yeah this is nice actually. This is what is missing from a lot of modern lives. Like making real efforts at introductions & getting to know whoever is around you even if it feels a little bit awkward is good for growth.
