Back at it Again.
Back at it Again.
Hey All,
Hope all is well in your world as usual. Today is my second day back to college after graduation of the Digital Media Production program. It is a very weird feeling I have to say especially with all of us wearing face masks and being 6 feet away from each other. I am pretty excited to get back into the Dreamweaver software and start making sites online again.
Today, we were given the…

MASH Network
Hey guys,
Hope all is well and of course I hope you have had that glass of water for the day. Today I would like to share with you what I have been working on over the past couple weeks since I haven’t had the opportunity to do such.
First think that I would like to share with you is this…..
I created one shape and then duplicated it using the MASH toolset. The power behind MASH is unbelievable…

Hey,
As usual I hope you are all doing well. Today I would like to share with you what I have come up with so far while only be in this class for two days. We have an assignment that is now open for us to begin working on however I believe there is some other things he is going to share with us before we officially have to start.
During the class today I pushed myself to take some written notes and here they are….
These notes that I took I felt could have been more detailed and when we have our next class meeting I will share with you the difference.
I spent a little bit of time in maya and after effects just messing around with some ideas and approaches and came up with this…..
youtube
This is not something that I am going to turn in but wanted to see how it would turn out.
In the assignment we are to animate 3-5 primitives around in Maya while practicing 3 out of the 12 principles of animation. Through out my blogs you will notice that the 12 principles of animation comes up a lot.
Here is some 2D examples of some of the 12 principles of animation I created back in my DMP class……
youtube
I am super excited to see what I come up with in Maya and look forward to sharing that with you.
Until next time, Lance Wilson

Hey,
As always, I hope you are doing well today and have done your best to stay healthy. Today I would like to share with you the last 3 projects I had to complete for my DMP class. I have been so focused on my Behance page and all the other Portfolio based elements that I had to put my last 3 projects to the side until I had time to come back to them. I had two days free so I knocked them out…

Demo Reel On Point
Demo Reel On Point
Hey,
I hope you are enjoying your morning, afternoon, evening, or night and are staying healthy. Today I would like to share with you my most recent final of my demo reel. My train animation that was originally in it wasn’t rendered out at a high enough quality so I rendered out a better version. After adding that into my demo reel I noticed some other slight issues and wanted to get those…

Hey,
Hope all is going well in your world as usual. Hope you are staying healthy physically, mentally and emotionally. Today, I would like to share with you what I have been able to come up with for a close to final version of my demo reel. Now, the night before it was due I was able to render out my train animation from first year and this is what I got….
youtube
The purpose of rendering this out was to be able to fit a more “finished” version into the reel. During the process of playing with the textures and getting it to where I wanted it to be I was able to pull together some screenshots to show my work…..
There is more camera angles I would like to render out but for now this should be good enough for a filler into my reel. Speaking of reel, here that is…..
youtube
The beginning I think is a little too long compared to the overall video so I will probably tidy up that section and I might even go as far as finding a different song because it honestly gives me a sense of being too long. I’m hoping to hear back from my instructor soon to get his feedback on what he thinks as well so that I can dive into my Virtual 3D Portfolio room that I am super excited to share in a blog when the time comes.
Well that is all I have for now. Stay tuned for some upcoming blogs that are gonna be super sweet!!!
Until next time, Lance Wilson

Hey,
As per usual I hope you all are doing well in these times of uncertainty with the COVID-19 stuff. Don’t forget to wash your hands and stay hydrated my friends.
Today i thought i would share with you what I have gone over since our instructor uploaded the rest of the principles and you can find those right here…..
youtube

youtube
There is a lot of really good information in these videos and if I haven’t said it enough let me just say it again, you would be doing yourself a favor by watching these.
I of course took notes during watching all of these and you can find those here….
I feel that it is very crucial to take notes as much as possible even if you don’t think you need to because what that is going to do for you in the long run is benefit you. You are helping yourself practice self discipline by doing that and if you forget something down the road you will have something that you can refer back to. Now I also do it because it really helps me soak up the information. If I were to just sit back and watch I might take a few things here and there with me but not the same as if I write it down.
There were quite a few links that Chris (our instructor) referenced through out these videos that I would like to point out to you and kind of comment on……
youtube
This is an awesome collection of videos that I found on YouTube that help reinforce the videos that Chris made for us. There is a lot of great examples in here that will help in the understanding “visually” of the 12 Principles. A MUST WATCH if you will lol.
https://vimeo.com/319514385
This example was provided to us during Chris’s “Staging” Principle video. This is a super awesome example of how the person takes control of what you are focused on. They guide your eyes where they feel is important. Now, to yourself there could be other things that you might have changed to focus on more but in this video the people that were involved with it did a very good job. Would recommend to watch to get a real insight as to what the “Staging” principle really is.
youtube
This is a video from the collection of videos above the “Celtra” video. It is for the principle of “Solid Drawing” and I really enjoyed watching this example because it gave me a better insight as to how one might draw a little better. I really like how they break down the importance of drawing with 3D shapes (Cubes, Cylinders, Spheres) vs 2D shapes (Squares, Circles, Triangles)
Linn Fritz is an awesome designer and in this gif you can see an example of one of her pieces of work. This example is a good representation of “Exaggeration”. Make sure to check out her website here.
This is a gif that comes from that video collection that I shared with you above the “Celtra” video and is representing very well “Exaggeration” and even “Anticipation”

I wanted to include some still images as well to repersent “Exageration” and thats how you get the two above. The “Jumping Guy” one is also a good example of “Squash & Stretch”
youtube
This video is a good representation of “Appeal” in Logo Animations. I highly recommend watching this video to show how something flat in a 2D surface can be given so much life.
There is one more principle that I still need to go over and in my next blog I will share that with you. In the example given to us by Chris he actually does the last example in Cinema4D so I anticipate that I will be showing you guys some pretty cool findings.
As always I look forward to the next blog!

“Hey all you cool cats n kittens” Just kidding but seriously if you haven’t watched Tiger King on Netflix, go watch it.
Like I said in my previous blog I was gonna share with you my 15 Second version of my Portfolio AD project so here it is….
youtube
I sped up a few of the animations and also took out a few elements to bring it to 15 seconds.
I made further progress on the videos our instructor has been sharing with us about the 12 Principles of Animation. In the last blog I showed you two of his videos. The first one was on “Timing & Spacing” and the second one was on “Squash & Stretch”. Today I was able to catch up to his most recent recording which puts us at a total of 6 so far. That means that I caught up on 4 more principles which would be “Slow In & Slow Out”, “Anticipation”, “Arcs”, and “Follow Through”. Here is the other 4 videos he has done….
youtube
youtube
youtube
youtube
There is a lot of good material in these videos that he has provided to us. I have been able to understand previous things that have been discussed in class way better because of these. The ability to pause, rewind, stop, play, and all that really helps get the full potential of all the information out of these. Thanks again Chris (Our Instructor)!!
Here is the notes that I took while watching his videos…
Here is some gifs that I exported to show where I am at with the 6 Principles that he has gone over so far….
“Anticipation”
“Arcs” – ***Side Note*** I really started going crazy in this one. Things were really started to click for me in this example. I would say there is a slight hint of “Follow Through” in this one as well as “Squash & Stretch”
“Follow Through”
“Slow In & Slow Out”
“Timing & Spacing”
“Squash & Stretch”
I am super excited to see what he shows us in the next 6 videos and I’ll be sure to share my findings and learnings with you all. Other than that I have recently been given a project to turn a 2D logo into a 3D animated logo so I will consider that to be my Student Choice project.
Until next time, Lance Wilson

Hey,
I hope you are all doing well in the time of this COVID-19 stuff going on. I hope you and your family are doing well, staying healthy, and most importantly stay up to par with personal hygiene. Today I would like to go over my progress as to where I am at with a couple of things.
We have our Portfolio ad rough draft due on Monday (April 6th, 2020) and I have gotten that completed as of yesterday. Here is my rough Draft…
youtube
This is the 30 second one. We also have to make a 15 second one in which I will share with you in my next blog.
2. Our instructor for our Digital Media Studio class, Chris has taken on the recent role of showing us the 12 principles of animation in video format like such…..
youtube
In this video he talks about “Timing & Spacing” and he also shows us this gif….
In this gif what you are seeing is how the graph editor looks compared to how the ball animates. This gif is very helpful because it shows you exactly how the shape is going to react to how you animate your curves in the graph editor.
youtube
and in this video he talks about “Squash & Stretch”
Now in just these two video I was able to learn quite a bit and take on my own practices of it in the After Effects software. I really appreciate that he has taken time out of his day to make these videos possible for us. Now there is a few things while watching these videos that I looked into further and Ill share with you what that is in a moment. First, let me show you some notes I took while watching the video…..
I even made my own little preview to see what Squash & Stretch would look like….
After making the above preview I gave myself the concept of what I would like to do for my 12 Principles of Animation. I am going to make little demos like this one, maybe with different shapes or faces and combine them into one video where I show off the 12 principles.
Now, while I was watching Chris’s screen recordings I could see that he had some windows or settings in his After Effects program that I didn’t recognize. I know we have gone over plug-ins and scripts before but sometimes life as your attention at others things and that information you get doesn’t always sitck which would lead one into learning the importance of practice lol. Now, it wasn’t until I looked into what Motion V2 was that I was like “Oh yeah! They have scripts to make things like animating in After Effects way easier!!” In his videos he was making the anchor point just immediately go to the center of a shape layer and I was like dang thats so intuitive. You could be saying, “Lance you can just press the shortcut for it!” but let me show you this video that will show you the true power of Motion V2…..
youtube
I have to say I really appreciate this above video. He get’s straight to the point and does it in a very simple and straight forward manner. And here is some notes that I took during this video….

I really like this script because not only can I center the anchor point but i can also adjust it to the other points on the shape layer.
After looking into this script it lead me to look into the other two scripts (that I could see of lol) that he had in his After Effects software.
zl_ExplodeShapeLayers
Decompose Text
Here is a video explaining what “zl_ExplodeShapeLayers” is….
youtube
This is a very powerful and effective tool. I wish I would have had this tool before I did my portfolio ad project. It would have made breaking those pieces up so simple from one AI file vs the multiple I made. But that is the cool thing about this field is you are never not learning something new.
and here is a video describe the “Decompose Text” script…..
youtube
This is also another tool I wish I would have had during the animation process of my portfolio ad project. Possibly when I get the feedback from it on Monday I might have another opportunity to use it. Definitely recommend getting it.
Other than that I will leave you with a couple of books that he also recommended….

“The Illusion of Life” Disney Animation Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston

“The Animators Survival Kit” Richard Williams Director of Animation ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’
Well, that is all I have for you today. I look forward to sharing more with you in the near future. Until then make sure you take care of your self and stay safe out there.
Take care, Lance Wilson

Hey,
I hope everybody is staying as healthy as possibly and is keeping away from the COVID-19. Miss being able to go into an actual school and visit with my person in person but we are making the best of what we can. Today we held our presentations with the class where we broke down how own take on something media related and how we would accomplish said task. I would like to share with you what lead up to what I was able to bring to class today.
First it started with researching and finding something cool to present to the class. At this point I had already made my demo reel and felt like it didn’t reflect enough 3D in it so then I made the decision to do something related to 3D so that not only could I use it as an assignment but I can also use it in my reel. So as I was doing some research I came across this awesome individual on YouTube that I believe goes by the name of Fattu.
Here is a few of his links:
Fattu Tutorials on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6SWCKmOGEUp82OdTV9fQkw
Fattu Tutorials Official Website: https://www.fattututorials.com/
Definitely check him out! He does some super awesome work!
After watching some of his videos I cam up with the concept of doing also a 3D Liquid Simulation. At STI we all use Maya but since I saw some of my other peers dipping into other 3D softwares I thought it would also be beneficial to do something in a different 3D software that what I’m normally comfortable with. I made multiple renders during my research, practicing, and overall duration of my endeavors through this project and do know that this dragged on a little bit longer because the pandemic happened in the middle of this assignment or assignments. I am combining two assignments into one with this. 1st is the How To Presentation for Media Presentation and then there is 2nd which is a Procedural Video for Digital Media Production. Here are some of those renders….
youtube
This was the first one I did and wasn’t set on it yet.
youtube
That is why this video was made because I was looking for something liquid based but didn’t know what yet.
youtube
I even tried to do something as complex as this but it would have taken 2 weeks or more to render out all the pngs plus when i brought what little pngs did render out into after effects and got this….i wasn’t really happy with how it was turning out so I dropped that idea and came back to just pouring of the liquid over text….
youtube
youtube
It was super fun making these renders. I wish our school would have given us more options with 3D software other than Maya but I will continue in Maya after this and try to make something as awesome. When I was originally practicing to remember how to do this it was very difficult not to render out everyone that I made lol. There were just turning out so cool to me.
Now with this assignment we had to create a handout that would follow our on screen presentation to the class. Here is the one that I made….
Now as you can see at the bottom of my handout there is a link that guides you to a more detailed version of the instructions. Here is that link….
https://mrwilson3d.wordpress.com/2020/04/03/3d-liquid-simulation-detailed-instructions/
And because I like going that extra mile here is the detailed instructions in image format…
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Making these detailed instructions wasn’t that bad though. I simply did it in Microsoft PowerPoint. I switched the layout to be paper size and just added the words and threw a picture into it and PowerPoint does the rest. I LOVE how PowerPoint as Design Ideas because made this process a breeze.
Well that’s really all I have for you in this blog. I did mention that I am going to be creating a Procedural video of this project for another class so I will get that done today and probably share my thoughts with you all on that tomorrow.
Have a Great Weekend!!! & Don’t forget to WASH YOUR HANDS!!!
Until next time, Lance Wilson
