Ji-eon was sent to an orphanage when she was 5 years old. Her parents, Choi Han-sol (father) and Choi Ji-woo (mother), died because of a car crash while they were on their way to pick-up Ji-eon from school. The events of that day remain vivid in her memory, carrying a deep sense of guilt as she blames herself for the incident that had happened. Ji-eon swore to herself that day that she would never let her guard down, nor allow any person to get close to her.

Having no one beside her, Ji-eon entertained herself by writing. Her room—shared with other kids in the orphanage—was filled with numerous papers and books. Ji-eon would often spend an entire day reading novels, jotting down her own thoughts, or watching news. Showing a profound interest in writing in the early age of 7, Ji-eon aspired to be a Journalist someday.

𝙸𝙸𝙸. THE PINCH OF LIGHT IN THE DARK.

It was 2011 when Ji-eon learned how to smile again to other people. It is shocking, as Ro-han described it to his other friends. Ji-eon decided to take a big step in her life as she wanted to fulfill her “New Year's Resolution”—to make friends and have fun in any way she could. She accomplished that goal as soon as Yi-seul came into the picture, followed by Ro-han. While the other children at the orphanage also became her friends, none were as close to her as the two aforementioned individuals.

Ji-eon accepted and moved forward on whatever happened to her in the past. It became evident when her usual timid smile became a smile that reached from ear to ear, or on how she became approachable and warm when her friends needed her. It was a crazy transition, yet Ji-eon didn't regret it as she piqued the Seo’s attention—a couple whom she now calls “Mom” and “Dad”.

Ri-woo and Ha-eun Seo are a warm, loving couple. They met Ji-eon, who was puzzled by why the Director of the orphanage suddenly called her into his office. There, they sat in complete silence—deafening yet comfortable at the same time. Ha-eun was the one to break the silence, explaining to Ji-eon who they were and what was the purpose of their visit. Ji-eon, unsure of how to react, stayed silent. The couple didn’t want to rush her, instead, they visited every Sunday at the orphanage just to see her and wait for her answer. After a month, Ji-eon decided to come with them, realizing that the warmth and love that she had been longing for were the very things the Seo’s were showing her.

Ji-eon and Ro-han’s first interaction was unexpected. One sunny afternoon, they were in the backyard—Ro-han playing with his friends while Ji-Eon sat alone on the swing, reading a book. Rohan passed the ball to one of his friends when, suddenly, the ball hit Ji-Eon’s head. Unfazed, Ji-eon glanced up to see where the ball had come from. Rohan sheepishly smiled, trying to hide the fact that he was a bit scared of her. The boy said sorry to her but she didn't respond. Every day after that, Ro-han would try to start a conversation with her. After some time, they grew close. Inside the orphanage, they became known as the ‘cat and dog’ of the orphanage because of the way they bickered every chance they got.

Ji-eon, who was learning how to socialize, stumbled upon Yi-seul,—a reserved, quiet girl—sitting alone in the corner. The sight reminded her of when she was new at the orphanage. Intrigued by the younger girl, she sat down beside her. Yi-seul flinched, taken aback by Ji-eon’s presence. Undeterred, the older girl began to talk, sharing stories while the other girl quietly listened while sketching. They would meet on the same corner everyday until the silence no longer felt distant but comforting. In an orphanage filled with constant chaos, their bond grew strong and unbreakable.
