                     SHE  SITS  WITH  HER  LEGS  CROSSED  on  the  floor  of  like  a  broken  record,  her  back  against  the  wall  &&  her  hands  working  quickly  over  a  piece  of  paper.  it  was  kate’s  first  day  off  in  awhile  &&  she  happily  embraced  it,  deciding  to  use  her  free  time  to  sketch  out  a  few  of  her  favorite  places  around  town.  like  a  broken  record  was  her  first  stop.  though  she  loved  children,  not  being  around  a  screaming  horde  of  them  was...  well,  nice.  the  colors  on  her  page  began  to  pop  out  in  beautiful  arrays,  bringing  her  deeper  into  focus  as  she  tried  to  capture  the  energy  of  the  shop.  it  wasn’t  until  she  heard  someone  clearing  their  throat  that  kate  finally  glanced  up  from  her  page.  “i’m  so  sorry  —  am  i  in  your  way?”  she  asks,  quickly  gathering  her  belongings  &&  shoving  them  out  of  the  way.  it  was  a  fairly  narrow  path,  so  she  hugs  her  knees  to  her  chest.  “is  this  enough  room?  i  can  stand  up  if  you  need  me  to.”

✦  KENNEDY  MCMANN,  CIS  WOMAN,  SHE/HER  ✦  KATE  LOCKWOOD  the  27  year  old  has  been  in  Hidehill  for  ONE  YEAR  and  was  a  STRANGER  to  Jade  Parker,  the  missing    first  murder  victim.  Whispers  on  the  streets  are  that  the  DAYCARE  WORKER  who  lives  in  HIDE  SQUARE.  She  are  said  to  be  KINDHEARTED  and  CREDULOUS  but  I  guess  we’ll  find  out  for  ourselves.  {  SOL,  21,  MST,  SHE/THEY.  }
*tw  :    death  &  brief  mention  of  car  accidents
before  hidehill,  kate  lockwood  was  carefree  and  adventurous.  there  wasn't  a  thing  in  the  world  that  could  stop  her.  having  been  born  the  only  child  to  two  loving  parents,  she  grew  up  comfortably.  kate  had  everything  she  wanted  and  more.  that  was  until  her  father  died  and  she  ran  off  to  hidehill  to  escape,  but  it  seems  she  cannot  escape  the  inevitable.
to  fully  understand  kate,  we  need  to  start  at  the  beginning:
michael  and  jane  lockwood  welcomed  kate  into  the  world  on  a  stormy  autumn  day.  they  should  have  known  then,  that  she  would  was  a  force  to  be  reckoned  with.  she  had  their  entire  hearts  the  moment  they  laid  their  eyes  on  her  and  the  next  few  years  passed  by  quickly.  she  threw  tantrums,  became  a  prankster,  outgrew  clothes,  and  refused  to  be  told  no.  kate  had  her  parents  wrapped  around  her  tiny  little  finger.
puberty  and  teendom  softened  kate.  despite  her  parents  being  able  to  provide  for  kate,  she  agreed  to  take  on  a  part-time  job  to  contribute  to  the  household.  she  learned  to  respect  her  parents  not  only  as  parents  but  as  individuals.  she  fell  in  and  out  of  love  with  boys  who  she  would  soon  forget,  excelled  in  her  classes,  and  grew  close  to  her  father.  these  years  too,  quickly  passed.
college  hit  kate  in  ways  she  never  knew  was  possible.  her  world  had  always  been  so  small  --  her,  her  parents,  and  her  classmates  at  the  various  private  schools  she  attended.  kate  had  no  siblings,  no  best  friend,  or  no  significant  other  to  go  through  the  struggles  college  brings  with  it.  she  made  a  few  friends  along  the  way  and  continued  to  do  well  in  her  courses.  but  the  life  of  academia  was  not  for  her.
after  graduation,  kate  went  back  home  to  bedford,  ma,  and  moved  back  in  with  her  parents.  she  began  working  as  a  full-time  nanny  to  a  couple  who  worked  long  hours  and  had  two  little  girls  who  needed  to  be  taken  care  of.  kate  fell  in  love  and  was  in  a  serious  relationship  for  three  years  following  her  arrival  home.
then,  her  father  passed  suddenly  and  tragically  in  a  car  accident.  it  was  a  hit  and  run  --  the  murderer  never  caught.
the  death  of  her  father  --  her  best  friend,  was  too  much  for  kate  to  handle  and  she  decided  to  pick  up  and  leave  one  summer  morning  while  her  mother  was  at  work.  she  left  nothing  but  a  note  that  said  she  was  sorry  and  that  she  would  return  home  one  day.
at  first,  she  didn't  know  where  she  was  going  or  where  she  would  stay.  but  she  stumbled  upon  hidehill  and  was  drawn  in  by  it's  magnetic  charm.  she's  been  there  since,  residing  in  hide  square  and  working  at  a  daycare.
her  first  few  months  in  hidehill  were  amazing.  she  was  starting  to  feel  free  again,  like  the  world  could  never  stop  her.  most  importantly,  she  was  learning  to  deal  with  the  death  of  her  father.  then,  jade  parker  was  found  dead.
now,  she's  jittery,  keeps  to  herself,  and  is  overly  cautious  of  many  people  she  meets.  kate  never  goes  anywhere  secluded  and  refuses  to  go  out  past  dark.
will  you  grow  close  enough  to  kate  to  befriend  her  and  learn  her  secrets?
