I have been postponing making this post, because I am embarrassed, but I also know I have to acknowledge my mistake so here we go.
I don’t wanna skirt around the issue, so let’s just get right to it. I have for years been whitewashing Russell. I’ll try to explain how this happened, but before I do I want to stress that I am 100% sure that the reason it happened doesn’t make it okay, and I should have done things differently. Russell is a biracial character and I promise I will embrace that part of his character in the future.
So at some point during my reading of ASOIAF, or maybe at some point after I originally read the books, I equated the Free Cities to Balkan. I don’t know how it happened, maybe because I was reading about the Balkan war? I honestly don’t know, because it is just not a good take and I fully cannot defend it. I could get into the cultural aspects of it and how thinking of Taena and Russell as Slavs made sense to me at the moment, but it honestly does not matter, because the fact of the matter is still that I took a character of color and made him white. I am sincerely sorry for this, and I will do better.
As of now I haven’t found a new faceclaim for Russell in his canon verses, so I will be rping without icons until I land on a choice that feels right to me.
Again, I am sorry for my racism in this matter.

The boy beams. “Yes, mom,” he says, and draws her breath. “Tyrell is growing strong, Crakehall is none so fierce, Buckwell is pride and purpose, Swygert is awa- no, Swygert is truth conquers, Swyft is awake! Awake!” The words come in a seemingly random order as he thinks of them, and as with any list with no order to it he’s bound to lose control of which one he has or hasn’t said yet, but it doesn’t matter. He just wants to talk to his mother, to show her how good he has been in her absence.

Russell beams. He knows his mother knows exactly who he is, but nonetheless he is proud of the comment about his growth. He has missed his mother dearly, and in her absence he has been focused on becoming a proper man. One who can protect his home and fight for his family should it come to it. Still a child Russell has unrealistic views of war and glory, still.
“Mother,” he grins, wrapping his arms around her in a tight embrace, as if scared that she’ll fade from his grip if he lets go. “Mother, I’m so glad to see you. Just wait till you see how good I’ve gotten with the sword, or in my geography lessons. I know all the houses and their words now.”
FLEEING the capital had been the only course of action, with both queens taken by the faith, and taena’s rather precarious position within ALL OF THAT. maneuvering the game of thrones only goes so far when the hand that feeds is taken away. longtable is a familiar sort of comfort, not as glamorous or TREACHEROUS as king’s landing; a place that had been safe for her son to stay while she stuck her head in the lioness’s mouth ( for him, for them; everything she did was for the betterment of their family ).
A SMILE stretches across taena’s face for the first time since the high sparrow’s capture of cersei – a genuine, adoring smile – when she sees her darling russell. “pardon me, my lord, but have you seen my sweet son? he was not so grown as you when i last lay eyes upon his face.”

If i was a person with magic i would 100% use all of it to just LOOK like a person with magic. No actual useful spells just make my hair always look like it’s blowing in a soft breeze even if I’m inside, constantly have various animals casually chilling near me or walking around with me, sometimes just full on float a bit to fuck around with people.

- Russell tried to learn martial arts because of a video game, he was terrible and gave up after a month.
- Russell once got in a fight with a guy twice his size because the guy used a slur. He got severely beat up, but wouldn’t undo it if he could.
- Russell gets so excited about every aspect of the YouTube community. He will do every embarrassing or fun challenge out there, he even got a friend to be his “boyfriend” for the my boyfriend does my makeup challenge. It got to the point where he has a separate channel for those things.

Russell rolled his eyes again, but didn’t complain as he started the cleanup. Every now and then he’d stop and make a comment about how Arya managed to get it so messy. “You know,” he said, waving a dish brush in his hand, “I think this was just a ploy to get me in another of your videos.”
