♀ ✺ Even in a city as packed as Laewyth, strangers approaching each other in the streets was not the norm, and Zahida’s first reaction was to flee at the touch of a hand on her shoulder. She turned to face her approacher, an eyebrow raising at the recognition of his strong accent. “Honest work for honest coin will not be easy to come by for you,” she pointed out. “What can you do? what are your skills?”
Tumblr media
His jaw clenched in desperation, but he nodded knowingly. “I know. But I will do whatever it takes.” Eyes wide with hope, Meri wonders if he’ll ever find a steady income in this new world. Should he ever have left Magnicourt in the first place, or had the move been a mistake driven by grief and anger? His eyes darted to the woman’s features then, and he nodded. “I was a miner, back home. But I can’t find any mining jobs here --- it is as if you have no gold to mine.” The very thought was baffling to Meri, but he assumed it must be true.

ingervarsson:
Inger was on her way home when she was stopped by someone reaching out for her. She turned towards them to fight, panic rising, but upon hearing his question forced herself to calm. One of her northern warriors was by her side in an instant, but Inger reassured him everything was alright before answering the foreign man’s question. “I’m very new here so I’m unsure if anywhere is hiring. I’m sorry.” Inger looked him up and down. The desperation in his eyes was frighteningly raw, and it took her but a moment to realise if she walked away from him without trying to help he would haunt her dreams. “Do you have experience in any trade? Any skills?”
Tumblr media
The sight of a large and daunting figure coming to the woman’s aid sent Meri a few steps back, anxious to assure the both of them he meant no harm. It was the other’s words that calmed him, and the miner’s shoulders relaxed. But any relaxation mixes with disappointment when the woman’s words reach his ears, and his shoulders slumped. “Thank you anyway, miss,” he said, nearly moving to walk away when she spoke again. His eyebrows shot up with an earnest expression. “Yes! I can mine. I’m a good miner.”

wynsters:
The Kings council took her to many places. Laewyth being one. At almost 6ft, Wynfreja  towered above the average men in the street, a thick cloak of red ermine draped over both shoulders. Its hood hit waves of red hair from view. As his hand came down on her shoulder, he woman turned, cool blue eyes landing upon his face and narrowing. “Remove your hand.” came the reply. She had not unclasped her hands or made a move to stand back. Wynfreja remained standing before him, tall and impassable as a glacier.
Tumblr media
It had been an unconscious decision, upon searching the crowd for help, to choose the woman before him. She had an air about her that said, I know what I’m doing, but Meri hadn’t been expecting the reaction he received. Quickly retrieving his hand, the westerner took a step back, as well. “I apologize,” he said, bowing slightly in an apologetic fashion. “I did not mean to disturb you. I... I will be on my way.”

jeongbobo:
The Laewyth markets were filled with fresh produce–in abundance. None of them bruised or crushed by packaging, or a long trip in a cart. It was almost as if they were plucked right from the ground and nestled into the barterer’s stand. Well, they probably were. And the taste was no misgiving of that.
Crunching on an apple, Jeong was stopped in her tracks by a hand on her shoulder–people were awfully touchy, here. One grab taken the wrong way and a southerner could have his skull crushed in by a northerner. There really should have been a meeting of the minds, somewhere. The merging of cultures was a dangerous thing, ill-prepared.
Tumblr media
But Jeong held her cool demeanor, turning to face the body attached to the hand. This man was–large. Very tall, with a thick, distinct accent that Jeong couldn’t recognize in the slightest, “I’m new here myself, Beanstalk.”
Still, the rustle of coins was ever imminent in her pocket… and his face seemed honest, true, even if he was foreign. She was foreign, too. One brother doesn’t leave the other behind.
Tumblr media
“But, actually…” She leaned in close, placing a hand on his shoulder, if only to bring him closer to her level, “Are you an honest man?”
Meri could plainly see the apprehension written like a letter on the woman’s face. Had he made a mistake? The people from the south --- with what little information he had about them --- were not to be trifled with, and yet he had stopped what appeared to be a warrior on the street without so much as a hello.
Cursing himself inwardly, Meri tried to manage the slightest of appreciative smiles, mostly glad she hadn’t chopped off his arm when he’d touched her. The nickname assigned to him --- beanstalk?? --- made his smile disappear, and his features scrunched in evident confusion. “I... have never heard a plant used as a name,” he said innocently, thinking honesty was his best option. “But I... I find comfort in not being the only newcomer.”
Tumblr media
The sound of coin was nearly lost on Meri, but her appearance --- it was what made him choose her in the first place. She looked high above the others around them, bustling and shoving in their normal day-to-day routine. She seemed knowledgeable, in more wyas than one, and Meri had hoped she would help him.
Her next words made brown eyes light up with the promise of help, and the hand on his shoulder made him bend at the waist slightly, as her arm guided him to do so. “Yes,” he said, perhaps a little too quickly. “I am not trying to gain coin for myself. My siblings are why I look for work,” he continued, rambling unknowingly. “They are hungry.”

With his siblings growing hungrier, Meri was growing more desperate to find work. He’d been able to clean a few people’s stables and polish a few pieces armor, but none of the coin he’d received has done him much good for long. Stopping in the middle of the busiest street he’d found in Laewyth, he stopped a stranger with a hand on their shoulder. “ Please, do you know where I could find work ? ”

The sight of the city was very strange. Being so unlike that of the glamour and extravagance of Magnicourt ( even though Meri was accustomed to the dirtier parts of the kingdom ), Meri was slowly becoming used to the smaller... less-shiny kingdom, but the strangers words came as a shock.
“Truly? I had thought the people here seemed exceptionally free,” he replied, eyeing the other with skepticism. What was the man used to, to see Laewyth in such a negative light? “Where I am from, the city is guarded day and night by guard who do not like anyone.”
Tumblr media
Looking out over the city below Vilkas scrunched up his nose. There was so much here, too much. They were impersonal with each other, he doubted their King knew half of their names. He longed for the air of the North, the freedom Svlar gave that this place would never have. “I think my people would suffocate here. There is no freedom…” He paused, “And the air is… different.” He wasn’t sure if he meant to insult, it was only strange, and he was guarded, they were in the lands of their former enemies.
Turning his eyes from the city below he let out a short huff, “The sooner we can all return home the better.”

Having not stopped in the tavern to drink ( but instead for work ), Meri was apprehensive to accept the other’s offer. Still, with his family taken care of for the moment, he broke down and accepted. “Fair enough,” Meri said, sitting with the other and hoping his outlandish accent wouldn’t throw him off. “Oh, yes, the war --- I’d nearly forgotten about it. How is that going?”
Tumblr media
ϟ ☾ “Come, drink with me. This is a momentous occasion,” Eirik raised his goblet to the other, merrily. “I never thought I’d see a time that my people would join forces with the South. The gods demand that we mark this day.”

→ ADMIN NIKKI WITH MY SECOND CHARA Y’ALL !!
→ so this is aymeric, or meri for short since that’s all his family ever called him when he was young. he grew up very poor in magnicourt, and he comes from an endless line of miners. as soon as he turned 16, he was sent into the mines and began to help take care of his family.
→  he grew up with his family and his uncle, in a small hut-like house on the outskirts of prime mining land.
→ he has five siblings; four sisters and one brother. being the oldest, he was always the father-figure when he was young, as his father was almost always in the mines trying to get enough coin to feed his family. his mother was often sick, as child-bearing took a toll on her, and the poor conditions in which they lived didn’t help. his mother died when he was 19 after bearing a stillborn child.
→  when he was 23, meri’s father died in a mine collapse. magnicourt’s royal court offered no compensation for the loss of life or work, but instead swept the collapse under the rug. enraged and fraught with grief, meri was thrown into the role of sole caretaker.
→ as the invasion against the all but unknown eastern lands was announced, meri made the decision to take his siblings and uncle upon the ship that sailed east. with the hopes of starting a new life in the kingdom called laewyth, meri is working hard to rent a house outside of the town by working miscellaneous jobs.
