a tale of three sisters
it’s sometimes said that if you try and exert your own opinions on your children they’ll end up either obeying you or deliberately rebelling against you. in the case of cygnus and druella black, their three daughters ran the gamut: one obeyed, one rebelled and one ended up somewhere in between. each of the three women’s lives ended up being defined by love: even if sometimes that love was rather twisted…

andromeda the blood traitor ( alva bratt && jessica de gouw )
narcissa the devoted mother ( kathryn newton && sarah gadon )

ZELDA BURKE —
“yes,” she said with a slight nod, “want to try to keep in shape ‘til i eventually lock myself away to study for upcoming exams.” zelda liked being in narcissa’s company. honestly, she looked up to the black sisters more than she would ever admit. being sandwiched between two brothers will do that to a girl. “are you prepared for your owls?”
—
Moving together with the other girl towards their table, Narcissa grimaced briefly at the thought of their impending OWLs, not that she hadn’t already prepared adequately for them. “Ah yes, our OWLs, a rather dastardly invention, isn’t it?” She replied, before stating, “Mostly, but probably will need more revisions as the time gets closer.”

NARCISSA BLACK —
𝑖𝑡'𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑑𝑎𝑦 often symbolic of his lack of sleep over any real need to rise early ; but he feels a bit less than surprised crossing narcissa , with how often he’s been sneaking over the lower floors . ❛ i am , ❜ sirius responds , head turning around them before he steps over , making show of angling down to her ear in the slightest for the humorous effect , ❛ you all right with a dastardly escort if we’re early enough to keep the busybodies out of sight ? ❜
—
When she had struck up a conversation with the nearest person, she hadn’t expected that it would be Sirius. But as she turned around, an unusual small but fond smile (for how infrequent did they ever come in his presence) appeared upon her lips for the cousin that had once been one of her close confidants. Glancing quickly around the pair of them to ensure that no one would notice them, she let a small smirk appear upon her lips before replying, “I guess I could be convinced. After all, who else would be awake at this hour?”

BELLATRIX BLACK —
—-
There were only two people in this world that Bellatrix didn’t mind interrupting her, and those people were her sisters So when she realised that it was Narcissa the brunette just smiled, and rolled her eyes. “You know I don’t mind you interrupting me” She reminded with a little laugh, as she motioned for her little sister to sit in the seat next to her. “Maybe you can help me finish this letter to Rodolphus”
—
Taking a seat opposite her sister, Cissa glanced briefly at Bellatrix’s papers and what she seemed to be doing, a knowing look appearing in her eyes as she replied, “And what exactly are you composing in this letter to dear Rodolphus?” It was fortunate she had found her sister in the mass of people that had flocked to the library for study, and with Bella’s fierce reputation; they’d probably be able to spend their time undisturbed.

LUCIUS MALFOY —
there was fine definition of how lucius felt towards narcissa, whether it was conjured in his head or not, but he understood that he wanted to be a part of her life. every bit selfish, he’d become greedy for her presence and maybe it was foolish to feel this strongly and not admit it but she was among the only things in his life that made sense. it was almost ill-fated that she was one of the furthest from his father’s expectations, but maybe if it hadn’t been for how twisted life seemed to be- he’d have acknowledged that the line between friendship and something else had been crossed between the pair a long time ago. ‘ you are just making it all up in your head -’ she warned, but he hadn’t seen the point in the heed, especially not when her face said otherwise. her eyes screamed fire, and her hand had seemed to point to extinguish it inside her as she clutched the book to her chest in an attempt to escape the conversation. “ we must have missed each other then,” he finally admits defeat, shoulders falling despite the demeanor the male often presented. “ must have been awfully preoccupied at the party, then. at some point i had been looking for you.”
—
With Lucius seated there before her, there was so much that Narcissa could have said; and almost wanted to say. And perhaps she was a coward; seeking to escape instead of telling the truth that ran around in her mind. But ever since the announcement of his betrothal to Isabelle Avery had been proclaimed, an ugly emotion had arisen that she had tried ever so hard to suppress. Her fingers tightening around her family’s grimoire, Cissa’s molten eyes flickered over Lucius’s figure as she wondered just how she and Lucius had ended up at this point, lamenting over the fact that one of her closest childhood friends now seemed more distant than ever. And yes — that was her own fault, for choosing to avoid him whenever possible, but she didn’t think she could face the tumultuous emotions that had arisen with the thought of Lucius being engaged. “Yes, rather unfortunate that we missed one another. But I was rather preoccupied with discussions with Cleon and Rab. Did you hear — he got scouted to play professionally!” And perhaps a diversion in topics would allow for a more neutral discussion. But she doubted it. It was Lucius, after all.

BELLATRIX BLACK —
Bellatrix was sat in the library, a few pieces of parchment laid out in fornt of her. One could have thought she was studying, but the girl was in fact writing some letters back home. There was already a sealed letter address to her father sat upon the table. She’d just started the second, though she hadn’t gotten much further that simply ‘Dear Rodolphus.’ She didn’t have much more time to get any further words on paper when she heard foot steps. “I’m busy. Can’t you tell?”

She’d been looking for her sister ever since she had received letters from her mother concerning her plans for the holidays. Hopefully she would be able to spend some of them at Paris Fashion Week, but apparently her mother had suitors all lined up — left, right and centre. A small smile appearing upon her lips the moment she spotted the familiar raven haired locks, she began to take a seat opposite her figure as she chuckled to reply, “I guess I could come back later if you do insist.”

RABASTAN LESTRANGE —
he’d always liked narcissa best out of the sisters, she was calm but not subdued, just a still sort of soul but he could always tell there was a twinkle in her eye too, something extra beneath the surface that no one got to see. he was fine with that of course, he never pried about the things she kept to herself. he only wanted to protect her in a way, she was the sister he never had. “i do think you’re much more capable than others give you credit for, i hope you won’t just settle for being a housewife someday.” he sighed and smiled at her. “yeah, it really is, best in the league and they wanted my sorry arse.”
—
Toying with the cup in her hands, a small smile remained upon Narcissa’s features as she glanced at Rabastan. It was nice to be within his presence, especially since he was like the elder brother she never had. Sure, there had been Sirius and Regulus. But they didn’t understand her the same way that Rab seemed to. And she loved him all the more for it. “No, I don’t think I will.” She replied, as she took a final sip of her cup before chuckling at his words. “Not sorry, silly. Talented. And it’s about time, everyone knows how great a flyer you are, anyway.”

LUCIUS MALFOY —
-
lucius gives little attention to her immediate reaction, lips pursing slightly at the passive tint clouding her usual demeanor. his mind does its best to rack through the past few days, replaying every encounter between the pair for something he could have possibly have done to upset narcissa. there is no immediate answer that is obvious to the male and this only unsettles him further. “should i be convinced otherwise ?” he asks slyly, one brow raised with skepticism. “ maybe you’ll be able to persuade me that i’m making it all up in my head. that - or you can keep having me guess why i didn’t see you last night at the party. “
—
There was a pause within their conversation wherein Narcissa contemplated whether she would be able to get away with abruptly leaving, feigning some sort of situation where she was needed elsewhere. But alas, Lucius knew her too well, and the last thing she needed was for him to tail her, insistent upon discovering why exactly she had been avoiding his presence. Not that she desired to think about those reasons, at all. Folding her arms across her chest, she tilted her head to examine his features as she wondered how exactly she would reply as before stating, “You should be. As you are just making it all up in your head. After all, I was at the party last night, you can ask any of the snakes. We must have just not crossed paths.” And if she had been avoiding him at the party, well — that wasn’t her fault, was it?

zelda had just finished up her morning training and was feeling terribly hungry, but mostly sweaty. “cissa, hey,” she said with a small smile and wave as their paths crossed. “yeah – wanna sit together?”
—
A pleased smile upon her lips that it was Zelda and not some other irritating sycophant, her smile widened as she accommodated her pace for the other girl as she replied, “Of course. Were you out training this morning?”

“Aye, I am. Ye trying to race me down there with yer wee legs?” Emma scuffled to be the first of them down the staircase. “I like to get there when the first of the sweet waffles are out. Toast tastes bad in my gob this early.”
—
Narcissa must have been in a magnanimous mood to be cordial to Emma. She blamed it on the alcohol she had been drinking the previous night. “That’s nice.” She replied with a fake smile, continuing on her pathway as she wondered just how long she would have to endure the presence of the other. “Hopefully the elves have breakfast ready.”

LUCIUS MALFOY —

sauntering into the common room, the male’s attention diverts to the figure that is strewn by the fireplace. this is the first time that lucius has seen narcissa by herself since the party and even though his friends are calling for his attention, he utters a poor excuse as he walks to close the space between the pair. a hand rests along the back of the cushion to announce his presence, his usual confident smile on his lips before lucius speaks. “ - if i didn’t know any better, i would think you’re ignoring me narcissa.”
—
Curled up by the fire, with the Black family grimoire in her lap, Narcissa’s focus was placed upon a certain ritual that only those of her blood would know of. Whilst the book would have been considered illegal if caught in Hogwarts, Cissa was confident in the knowledge that it had been heavily transfigured to appear as a textbook to anyone else; and was cursed to hex anyone that was not of her family, which was why she had it out open in the Common Room. Her attention suddenly diverted by the presence of another, Narcissa began to raise an eyebrow at Lucius’s appearance; her figure itching to disappear. Moving a hand to shut the tome immediately, Cissa gazed at him for a couple of seconds silently before finally replying, “And why you would think that, Lucius?”

MITRA CROUCH —
—
Mitra was feeling both exhausted, and starving at the same time. She had had a snack when she had woken up, but it hadn’t been enough. And so she’d made her way down to the great hall. Maybe she could find some greasy food to help with her hang over. She looked up as she heard a voice. “Oh….” She smiled at the other girl. “Yes. I’m starving”
—
It was rather unfortunate that Narcissa hadn’t bumped into the male Crouch and had instead landed herself Mitra. At least it wasn’t her bloody sister, Alice. Raising an eyebrow at the girl’s trailing sentence, Cissa magnanimously chose to not comment upon it as she replied, “Hopefully the elves already have breakfast set up.”

RABASTAN LESTRANGE —
he nodded, he knew it had taken him time to realize he’d go pro, and that he’d be allowed to do so. it came with such a heavy price tag however, he wasn’t sure yet if it was worth it. something to find out going into the future. “what do you like so far?” maybe she at least had some idea of what she liked enough to go for. surely she wouldn’t just sit around and wait for a betrothal. “despite not winning the cup, i still got what i wanted.” he admitted with a shrug, wishing the people he had told so far had been a bit more excited for him but dealing with the lackluster response all the same. “thanks.” he said with all sincerity.
—
Narcissa was ecstatic for Rabastan, he deserved to have his dreams come true. Especially since he was a fabulous player even though she detested the game. “I’m not sure, I’ve always enjoyed Potions as a subject, but truthfully I’ve never quite given it much thought.” She knew what her mother and father aspired for her to have, and perhaps one day those things would come to fruition. But as of right now, she was sure that she would at least be a socialite; especially at the rate of the political climate. “I’m so pleased for you, Rab. It’s so exciting!”

It was unusual for Cissa to be awake this early, but since she felt somewhat famished, she decided to make her way towards the Great Hall for breakfast. Her eye catching sight upon someone somewhat familiar, she raised an eyebrow as she asked, “You heading towards the Hall too?”

he nodded, she wasn’t wrong there. “no need to oversell it.” but he smirked kindly and nudged her side gently to show he was just teasing. “you certainly have plenty of time left to figure it out.” she was only a fifth year, she had all the time in the world. if the world didn’t fall apart in the next two or three years that was. “i’ve been scouted by a few teams, i’m going to commit to the bats, best in the league.”
—
Chuckling at Rabastan’s response, she lightly shoved his shoulder before taking a sip from her cup before finally placing the empty cup on the table beside them as she nodded at his response. “I’m sure I’ll eventually narrow it down.” She replied with a smile before raising an eyebrow at his career options. “You’re a fabulous player despite the horrid spot, I’m sure more teams will want to scout you even if you commit. Congrats Rab.”
