Of course, it must be strange for man that grew up in a time of war to find such affluence part of his everyday life. Natasha does not make the novice error of asking if she has a floor ---- she knew what she risked losing when she had left them all.
“Tony has always been quite the hoarder. I'm glad he's actually getting on with the team.”
He’s grateful for the change of subject, for the gentle squeeze of her hand on his. He smiles, showing how grateful he is for the contact, and then takes a sip of his coffee. The change of subject has him smirking, lips tugging up to the left.
"Ah—- yeah. Each got our own floor, on the top six levels. Said he’ll add guest floors. One room in a one’a them things is the same size as the apartment I lived in growing up. It’s incredible.”

She can see that Steve doesn't want to talk about it, so instead of continuing the train of conversation, she squeezes his hand with a small smile of sympathy. While she needs to talk to him about James Barnes && her own history with him at some point, it seems that now is not the right time.
“I’ve always preferred being a redhead. So what's this I hear about Tony building us each our own floor in the tower?"
Steve shakes his head and looks away, eyes cast down. change the subject change the subject change the subject. He doesn’t want to talk about this, not now, not now. He smiles at her, that sadness in his gaze that he never can help.
"It—- It’s fine. But I do, yeah. I think it’s really good; you look beautiful as always, but it’s a nice change.”

Natasha shakes her head, not quite sure what to make of the compliment. As per usual, Steve leaves her on the back foot with no intention of even doing so. A light that is not often present in her eyes sparks to life, && she reaches to take his hand into both of her own.
“I'm sorry you couldn't find him.
---- really? You think the blonde works?”
Maybe she’s right; maybe he is different. The beard’s new, for one. But he’s a little more withdrawn, he finds lately. A little quieter. He had just come out of his she’ll when he was working with Natasha, finally getting to terms with the modern world, but this whole thing has set him back a bit.
“You’re different too. Blonde; it’s a good look.”
Avoid the question he wants to ask: different how? It’s a bad question, can surely only lead to trouble, so best to leave it out and focus on her instead. He does like the blonde. It’s different, but it’s good.

“Of that, I am sure. I think he rather enjoys these little hide && seek games.”

I wouldn’t be surprised— We’ll find him, though.

THAT FEAR. Bite it down, leave it be. Your nightmares & greatest enemies strive off that vulnerable point. Let it show & you’ll make history books for all the wrong reasons.

She has no intentions of ordering a coffee for herself, but instead is content to watch Steve as he wraps large hands around the mug he has himself. She feels a little like she's come HOME.
“I'm glad Thor is sticking around. But you seem different. Not that it's bad ----”
She cuts herself off with a small shake of her head, pressing her mouth into a line to stop words that could be taken as cruel from spilling out. Natasha cares for Steve, for this team. She will not ruin it with thoughtless words.
He understands, and he doesn’t blame her for it in the slightest; he never thought she had left the team, not for a second, and so having her back is no hardship for him, and he really doubts the others will take too much convincing either.
“Well, you know what they say - a leopard can’t change its spots.”
He gives a grin, hands wrapped around his coffee mug as he drains the last of it. He wonders if he should order anything for her, or if she’s happy to just sit there. Steve, in the end, decides to just sit too.
”Well- nothing much. Hunt for Bucky didn’t go too well, we hit a dead end. Thor’s back, he’s a semi-permanent fixture now. That’s about it.”

“I looked there first. I think he knows I'm looking for him.”

[ Happy nods, leading her up the corridor. ]
If he’s not here, he’ll probably be in the workshop.

“After you, Happy. I'll owe you one if you can find him.”

Sure. We should probably check his office first.

That brings a true smile to her face, & she knows that he understands the need to face the past. God knows that they’ve both had it catch up to them enough TIMES.

“You’re every bit the fool you were when I left. But —— thank you.”
Being part of the Avengers once more will bring her a purpose ---- & one she has chose, not one that has been forced to endure. To fight to PROTECT is a worthy cause, one that she will be able to hold in her soul without anger, something based on truth.
“What did I miss?”
The burden on his shoulders feels as though it weighs heavier as of late, dragging him down, making his shoulders sag and his back bend. He can’t help it, try as he might. He takes responsibility for his friend’s fate because if he had of inched out further, if he had of leaned over a little more-
Bad thoughts. He pushes them aside. He gives a smile as he looks at her, however forced it may be.

”As far as I’m concerned, Nat, you never really left. You’re more than welcome back - however you feel about yourself.”
