More Celestial Signals (The long dark DCA AU) rambles.

So I've been digging into the lore a bit more... (now the lore is still a bit patchy since half the story isn't out yet)

But I found out the Auroras are more of a new thing in game (narratively they've been in game since forever) and therefore wouldn't be a reason for Sun to have left the island but both the Glimmer fog and the collaps would have been!

So the Glimmer fog is a man made disaster, a kind of electric charged fog that makes people sick and electronics freak out. (Apparently part of a science experiment to study how the weather works or something about predicting disasters) I think this is what broke Suns pilot programme, he was flying over the mountains when the machine went crazy and blew up into this Glimmer Fog as they call it. As for him leaving I think just the collaps would have done that. A mix of financial and civil unrest, were the Forest Talkers (an activist group) were fighting against industrialising and harvesting the island of its resources as well as an economic crash (oh and a bunch of earthquakes scaring tourists away.) Caused the whole Island to fall into disarray and many left only making the problem worse.

Now I have a few ideas for Eclipse, I think he might have been a scientist working on some of those experiments but quit due to learing more about them and disagreeing with their practices and actually turned and started working with the Forest Talkers but ultimately disagreed with their ways aswell once they went more extreme, and took a few like minded members into his own small group where they started prepping for disaster (that Eclipse having been part of the science experiments going on knew might be more likely then most thought.) Then the whole story of him going missing happens.

Moons story is staying mostly the same tho.

And here is the gang!!!

I've decided Sun was a pilot (on the great bear island but moved away to the mainland before the collapse or maybe at the start?) but his pilot programme was damaged by the auroras. He still has his plane and likes to sit in it and chat with other pilots.

Moon as I mentioned before is the Trader, not so sure on trusting people but if you ave something he needs... well maybe he'll be willing to strike a deal.

I'm gonna ramble about The Long Dark Au for a minute...

Auroras

In game Auroras are crazy, they make all the tech thats usually dead suddenly active. Something about them makes the frozen hydrodam work or something but it's even weirder then that cuz even torches (flashlights) and handheld devices suddenly work too, and even crazier the wild life get a crazy boost during the Aurora.

I'm bypassing this by saying that the radio our survivor/reader has is newer tech but also a satellite radio and if that wasn't enough it wasn't there during the collaps (a mysterious phenomenon in game thats eluded to often that I assume is why the Auroras are weird and also the fact the island is stuck in a permanent winter but idk) and as an extra bonus it hasn't been exposed enough to the Auroras and won't work during them and I want it too work for the story so it will >_<

Robots

What about the robots tho? How are Sun and Moon functioning? Well... they kind of don't...

So Sun isn't even on The Great Bear Island, but when he was it was damaging his programing big style. When the first signs of trouble started Eclipse actually sent Sun away to the main land, the night he was flying out a major Aurora stuck and destroyed his flight programme he only just managed to get out, he was using a floatplane and just about managed to land it on the coast of the mainland without too much damage. (Also they sent him at night because a group was putting on the pressure for ppl to stay and were at a point they probably would have tried to shoot Suns plane down ^^;)

Moon being as stubborn as he is decided to stay but assured Sun that he'd be following him by boat soon if it got much worse.... he did not.

Eclipse was sure he could fix everything.

As for Moon working despite the Auroras well I have a few ideas... one his programing is totally messed up, his memory is rubbish at this point and he's basically going crazy. As for actually functioning I have an idea about the three having Combustion Generators built into them (an idea I've been playing with for a while to explain versions of the boiz who eat and what a better time to use it then for boiz built in for the wilderness where electricity isn't always ver reliable) so they eat something and it is then burnt up into energy, high calorie low moisture foods work best, also just straight up lamp oil (or even gas/petrol) works in a pinch (not so tasty tho) they should avoid water and things like soup tho, they don't burn so well ^^;

So I think thas all the rambles for now ^-^

How do you think first interaction between the boys and reader would work? Meet cute or meet disaster XD

So I have a very clear idea of our first encounter with Sun. Tbh... I'm Not sure you'd count it as a meet cute or a disaster.... I mean the meeting is during a disaster....

Kinda spoilers but....

Sun likes to sit in his old plane and connect his radio to passing planes and chat, it connects him to his pilot past and he genuinely enjoys the chats. One day while he's chatting a signal comes though... He apologises to his chatting buddy and connects to this mystery signal.

"Hi new freind, this is Pilot Sunny responding do you copy?"

"Mayday Mayday, My plane crashed I need an imidiate rescue."

"Oh stars!" (Stay calm Sun, stay calm.) "I'll see if I can help, do you know where you are?"

"I'm not entirely sure but there's a town here called Milton?"

"M-m-MILTON?"

"Yes? M-i-l-t-o-n..."

"I'm so sorry..."

"You're sorry???"

"I really am... you're on The Great Bear Island."

"THE Great Bear Island?? Oh God..."

The conversation goes something like that.

As for Moon I have less of a vision for that but something along the lines of the radio sounds and Moon asks if anyone is there so we answer and then chat (probably through moat of the night) and we think it was a dream XD

DCA The Long dark AU Rambles.

First I'm thinking about names? I know I can call it the long dark au but... maybe something like Celestial Signals, Celestial Crash, Aurora Radios? Radio Jesters? Starlit Radios? idk I'm still thinking on it, (any ideas are welcome.)

Second, Eclipse... I was wondering about adding him.... you see the trader has a mission to find his missing brother (tis a sad tale T-T) and well... it might fit? I would change the ending obz (RIP Wyatt)

But would it work? Wyatt was a prepper setting up with a crew for the end of the world, Which for the great bear island happened. He would make plans for secret Caches and bunkers and build them for his buddies (until they turned on him)

So I'm wondering If I could put Eclipse In to a similar story? What are your thoughts?

I have yet another DCA AU Idea!

The Long Dark AU!!!

For those who don't know The Long Dark is a (super awesome) first person Survival game with elements of Survival horror. And my family and I are currently obsessed with it (my dad, my bro and I are taking turns playing it and watching eachother play.) You have to survive in the snowy great bear island after the collaps, you play as a survivor who was was in a plane crash.

So I was thinking just having Y/N be a survivor who crashed their little plane (A floatplane to be exact possibly carrying cargo) in Mountain town (map).

This plane crash to be exact. (Yes there are lots of crashed planes in this game.)

Now... I've not played all the storymode, put as far as I know there is only one NPC, the trader who you never see and only communicate via radio and only during an aurora.

So my Idea is that Moon takes the place of the trader! A dark and mysterious character who lives on a little boat off shore of the island. his boat is too small to help you (and too small to go out to sea) and he can't get on the island because of an injury to his leg.

But Sun though I was thinking was a new character. I'm thinking some kind of dispatch, maybe coast guard or air control that you contact though a satellite radio from your plane, that works most of the time but not through snowstorms or Auroras and I think Y/n might have to repair some radio towers to get it working. Now the thing with The Great Bear Island is no one can get off said island its completely cut off from the mainland, planes don't work because of the Aurora the ocean is too choppy for any small boats to go futher a field and big boats can't get close because of the ice. There is literally no way in game to escape.

So I don't think escape is an option? But idk maybe we find a way? but either way I think Sun could guide you with maps and stuff (which is usually my job when watching the fam play XD) according to my bro this concept is similar to Firewatch? (Never played that one so idk) but I think it could be a fun little thing right?

We can contact Sun during the day and Moon every few nights or so (during an aurora) and they both help us survive and idk we get random lore drops??

I think it's a cool idea but what do y'all think? OwO
