Unlike Alice, Pierson was known for going to parties constantly. Even though he thought that most of these ‘end of the world’ ones that were being thrown were not up to par, he still went just for the fun of it. Even though the two of them seemed like polar opposites, Piers had insisted on going to this one with her, because who wouldn’t want to go to a party with a friend who was gonna bring their Alaskan Malamute? When she turned her head and spoke, he smiled and looked down to Bear. “Honestly, if the world is going to end in however long… that sounds like something I’d want to see before it happens. But, then again, that could actually end up being terrifying.” Pierson joked, running a hand through his hair. “Bear is literally the best part of this whole party.”

Alice was not a partier. Not unless the party was her and a bunch of animals or the holiday parties she threw at the childcare facility she volunteered at. But it was the end of the world right? So she and Bear were at this massive party soaking it all in. She was sure she probably looked out of place with the giant Alaskan Malamute at her side, but she couldn’t leave him at home at the end of the world could she? Turning to the person next to her she shook her head. “You wouldn’t believe how many people have offered him shots. I don’t think the world would want to see a drunk Bear.”

“What reputation do you have to uphold? Are you not the guy who causes most of the trouble?” Pierson counter argued, smirking as he spoke. “Plus, the nickname really does fit you. I think if I told enough people around here it would catch on, and that would be horrible for you.” He teased, looking around the party to make it seem like he was trying to find people to tell about this joke. “That sounds like a cover up, you probably believe this fully. It’s okay, scrappy, I won’t judge you more than I already usually do.”

When Pierson noticed how Teddy had actually managed to somehow get beer in his hair, and when he thought about how that could’ve happened for a second, he laughed a bit. “Nah, kid, you look pretty Scrappy tonight, so the name and the character fits. We should really stick with it.” He replied sarcastically, scoffing when Teddy started talking about how the world was gonna end. “I can’t believe you actually believe that, we’re all gonna look back st this and laugh at ourselves for throwing end of the world parties and being all scared. I’m gonna be able to tell you that I told you so.”

❝ Nooo, I don’t want that to catch on. I have a reputation to uphold, man !! ❞ Teddy jokingly whined, protesting the nickname that Piers had taken to using. Scrappy was the worst Scooby Doo character, it just wan’t fair. ❝ I don’t really believe it, it’s just a very convenient excuse. Besides, I love throwing parties, I’d probably have thrown one anyway. ❞

“It’s good that you went, furthered your career and all that to help yourself. It’s okay, I forgive you for how things went the way they did, Pax.” Pierson replied, noticing how upset at himself the younger one was becoming in the moment. Pierson thought that if anything, he should be the one upset at himself, but it was more important to him at the moment to catch up on the past couple years that he missed of Paxton’s life. “Good, he should never come close to you again if he knows what’s good for him,” Pierson said, his protective side for Paxton evidently showing. “I wish you would’ve went through him sooner, but I absolutely don’t blame you for not being able to. Who’s this new editor who you’ve had for two years that I suddenly need to meet?”

“I don’t know, Adrian, I think she’s slightly more educated than you, with the whole opposites attract thing.” Pierson replied, his self nature around the other boy simply not allowing him to stop teasing Adrian. He checked his phone to see if Aurora would text him about that video Adrian just sent to her, becausr that was the usual routine: Adrian would send something to Aurora when Piers went out with him, and she would message him about how immature the both of them were. “It depends on what you consider interesting, kid. I think it would be interesting to go back to that beach and see you build a worse sandcastle than a little kid again.” Piers replied, starting to walk to the front of the building to exit, noticing how Adrian wanted to leave.

“There’s no one else living in this city that could’ve gave you a better first lesson on surfing, Rora. For free, at least. We don’t really have enough time to get you on the master level, either, which kinda sucks.” He said back, teasing the girl since that’s what Piers usually does with people he’s closer to in general. Piers smiled at the girl’s positivity, which she seemed to have with just about every situation she encounters. “Exqueeze me, if your list was just supposed to have things you could do in the matter of days to weeks… why was having a baby on there? I don’t know if you and Adrian know, since you two are actually five, but that is not how it works.”

“Okay, if you didn’t have very good balance when you’re on land that would be a major problem. Like, we’d have to fix that. You just suck at surfing.” Pierson replied, laughing with Aurora about her not so good surfing skills that she showed today with him. As he laughed, he put his hair that had gotten soaked due to him having to get splashed by Aurora a million times per minute. Piers scoffed at her next comment, looking over to the girl as he did so. “That doesn’t really make sense, first times aren’t usually—you know, nevermind.” He replied, dismissing her comment quickly. “I mean, hey, if the world is gonna end then at least you got to do this thing that was on your not so extravagant bucket list. You should really get to work on the rest if you want them done before the supposed deadline.”

“Hey, I’ll have you know I have very good balance when the floor isn’t moving!” Aurora laughed before taking a sip of her drink. She and Piers had spent the afternoon on surfing lessons, and while she’s figured out how to keep her feet under her eventually, it hadn’t exactly been easy. Her hair was still damp with sea spray as they enjoyed a drink and some snacks at Tritonis. “Besides, it was my first time! It’s not like sex, you can’t just expect me to be amazing on my first go around.”

Pierson kept wiping his eyes to avoid making this more dramatic than it needed to be, letting out a sigh as he tried to calm down. He kept trying to make eye contact with the younger boy, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do so, because he knew he would break down if he saw Paxton crying over this. “I—I guess I understand where you’re coming from, Pax, but you were basically family to me so you have to understand where I’m coming from as well. I was just worried about how you were doing, and it’s not even that I’m mad now, it’s just more like, I’m relieved that you are alright. I knew you would be gone eventually, it’s not that I wasn’t expecting you to leave ever—you get the point. I don’t want to keep this up for the time that I do get to see you,” Pierson replied, trying to change the subject so that if the two of them don’t see each other for a long time again, at least it’ll be on good terms. “Tell me about what’s going on in your life. Are you doing okay? Don’t tell me you’re still working with that one guy we just talked about.” He continued, sounding almost like a parental figure, just like old times.

Pierson was staring at Paxton, his eyes full of sadness and confusion. The reason why he broke off the hug so quickly was that he desperately needed to know why Paxton had left him, since he felt betrayed. “Yes, you abandoned me… you left without even telling me you were going, and i was worried sick about you.” Piers now had tears forming in his eyes, and it was very rare to ever see the man cry, and he definitely did not want to right now in front of Paxton. He wiped his eyes, anger starting to build up in him as he heard the other boy talk about his old editor, a man who Pierson truly hated. Pierson always warned Paxton about how manipulative he could be, and what an ass he was in general, but nevertheless Pax wouldn’t listen. “I was never disappointed in you, I just didn’t want you to be working with someone like that… after everything you had gone through. The fact that he manipulated you to believe that I was going to make you stop writing is unbelievable… Even after that argument we had… I just wish you would’ve stayed.”

There was something deeply unsettling about seeing the man usually so tough so close to tears. His own lip trembled in kind, dropping his gaze to avoid looking him in the face. His eyelashes damp with held back tears he cleared his throat before he could speak. “I’m sorry. I thought – I thought it was what was going to happen anyway, I thought it’d hurt less if I left first. It’s how it was my entire life, and meeting you and you taking me in was the first good thing that’d ever happened to me. I’m sorry I hurt you, I never considered you would miss me so much. I’m sorry you’re angry and sad.” Paxton blew out a breath through his nose, quickly using his shoulder to wipe a couple stray tears from his cheek.

Pierson nudged Adrian on the shoulder, shaking his head as he did so. “Why would you need to be formal around me now, when you never are any other time we go out? This really isn’t the Adrian I became friends with.” He said jokingly, crossing his arms afterwards as he watched the other struggle to take a video of the poor shark. “I really hope you at least know that if you sent that video to Aurora, she’s gonna hear you ask me if I could feed the shark ‘tiger food’, whatever that may be. Also, since you’ve seen the poor animal and you’ve had your fun being disappointed, we should leave. It would be funnier to tell your girlfriend and all your friends about this in person, don’t you think?”

Pierson takes a step back, since he was not expecting Antigone to call him a jerk at all. Sometimes, he would forget that he could be a little bit too critical towards people. “Woah, I’m not trying to be a jerk, you know that’s just because of how I say things. I never called you an idiot, either, and instead of calling a sketchy Uber just let me take you home. You could also share that whiskey with me in return.”

“I wasn’t judging, if anything it was constructive criticism to help you. If anyone were to have moral superiority, the last person it would be is me, you should know that.” He says, his voice in an almost apologetic tone, running a hand through his hair out of habit.
