This is why I admire Aliya do much because of how mentally healthy she is. In today's society if you criticise an adolescent girls weight they will develop insecurities and it could negatively affect them in the long run. But Aliya is like no I'm fine I know my body and I disregard your opinion.
Luba says that in Lydia Ivanova’s memoir she said that she told Aliya that she needs to lose weight, but Aliya thought her weight was fine, so she then told her that everybody that she had a bitchy stare and is too fat. -_-

The most egregious case I experienced of this was with Mattie Larson. After her floor performance at the 2010 World Championships when she failed to complete her final tumbling pass successfully, she literally became invisible to everyone involved with USAG. When you watch the video you see her teammate, Rebecca Bross, not even glance at her when they pass each other on the podium stairs. From that moment, Mattie was shunned. I don’t want you to think I’m blaming Bross, she was merely responding in the manner she was trained. No one… as in NO ONE spoke to her for the remainder of the time she was in Rotterdam for the World Championships, and for the next three weeks after she returned to the states. Not her coaches, teammates, or Martha even said, “good morning” to her. When she called me to tell me she was quitting elite and wanted to come to UCLA I asked, “Why now… so close to the Olympics?” She said, “Because I’ve become invisible. Miss Val, I actually pinch myself at times to make sure I am still alive and not a ghost.” I honestly thought when Mattie came to UCLA she’d blossom into the joyful performer we all knew she had inside of her. Instead, her demons kept feeding the madness until one day her sophomore year she broke. Just outside our gym door she was literally crying and hysterically screaming, “Miss Val, please don’t make me go in that gym. I just can’t anymore.” Imagine the abuse and mental trauma it took for her to reach that point. We immediately walked Mattie to student-psych services and shortly thereafter she decided to quit gymnastics, which lead to dropping out of school. I am happy to report that Mattie did come back last year to complete her degree and spoke at our awards banquet. One of my biggest regrets is that I didn’t record her senior speech. It was one of the most heart-wrenching speeches any of us had ever heard, and yet there wasn’t an ounce of self-pity or victim mentality. Mattie simply told her story of emotional and verbal abuse by her club coaches at AOGC and Martha Karolyi. Mattie would later come out and disclose the abuse she suffered at the hands of Nassar.

I think she does put in effort on other events but she simply isn't very good on them. For example I can't see her ever upgrading her vault ever. Her tumbles this year were a pleasant surprise but she still won't score very well. I think her capabilities are limited and as a gymnast without exception on anything, even considering her bars which aren't particularly special or unique she has had a very successful career and deserves credit where the credit is due.

I feel like she gets a lot of hate and criticism without considering all the factors. She is basically a B team gymnast who has made A teams her entire senior career. To me that is impressive in itself because no matter what potential talent from potential A team gymnasts like Kharenkova, Tutkhalyan, Komova and others, she has always put herself in a position where there is a valid reason to put her on a team even if it is just for bars and with the depth in Russia on that event, it's impressive. International judges don't like her style across other events but she is a world champion, European champion and Olympic medallist. You can't say that about B team level gymnasts from other countries.

Alison Lepin - Serious back injury
Alison Lepin is forced to withdraw from the World Cup in Paris because of a serious back injury. In 2014, doctors diagnosed her with a problem in the back. (sliding of a structure of the spine forward). The injury worsened in recent months and should now see a specialist doctor. She has a medical appointment on September 12, this appointment will guide the rest of her career. The doctor will decide whether she can continue to practice or needs surgery. If it is to have surgery, the rest of her career could be jeopardized.

Aliya didn't have a break during the 2013-16 cycle. She had ankle surgery after Euros 2014, back surgery after worlds 2014, missed 2015 Euros because of the recovery and had knee injury at the end summer 2015 which prevented her from competing at worlds and had surgery in Winter. She literally had a few months to get herself together for Rio and she wasn't at her best. But Aliya is Aliya and not being at her best is a lot better than most gymnasts at their peak.

All of Asuka's tumbles are quite low incurring a deduction. Even if she stuck her routine cold, the lack of height from tumbles and leaps adds up especially when compared to someone like Larisa who gets a lot of height on both. As someone who has seen Asuka compete in person numerous times, the lack of height is very noticeable and an obvious deduction. The scores are fair.
On the next episode of “the Japanese were robbed”
This is Larisa’s floor from event finals at Universiade. It’s been posted a few times already because of Larisa’s quick ability to think on her feet and rearrange her tumbling passes, due to her botching a tumbling pass and nearly running OOB on it.

Next, this is Asuka Teramoto’s floor routine from the same event final.
youtube
Her biggest errors were the step on the switch full, and the hop on the front double full. When I first saw results, I didn’t think anything of their close scores because I assumed Larisa had a few tenths of difficulty on Asuka. However, they ended up having the same D-Score (5.4). Larisa won the final due to her execution score (8.4) being better than Asuka’s (8.366).
This terrifies me that we are going to go to Worlds and continue to have the Japanese underscored in comparison to other gymnasts there, primarily the US and Larisa.

She actually did have it after Euros only they didn't announce it in the media until much later. Eythora posted a photo on Instagram of her Ellie and Georgia Mae Fenton at a photo shoot in early May and you could see Ellie was in a cast. She deleted it and reposted the picture with the cast cut out afterwards.
